Competency is a set of knowledge, skill and experience necessary for the future, which manifest in their activity (White, 1959). Teaching competency reflects how teacher’s ability in teaching and learning activity. Regarding to English teaching and learning to foreign learners, young learners are also exposed to have this language mastery. But Indonesian Government (see 2013 Curriculum of Elementary School) limits the subjects in Elementary School into six subjects and English is excluded. For some elementary schools, English is not give, but some others English is put as Local Content. The decision of local content here is based on the need of society, and it is happened in some elementary school in Indramayu. Thus, an English teacher for young learners in some elementary schools should reflect their competency in teaching English. She/he should be occupied with knowledge, skill and experience that needed to teach English to young learners so the purpose can meet the need. The aim of this research is to find out teaching competence of English teacher in teaching English to young learners. By conducting qualitative descriptive, this research uncovered the competency of teacher in planning the lesson, media and the implementation so it can be a consideration to put back English subject as one of main subjects in Elementary School. From the finding, it can be seen that some English teachers had made their efforts on performing good ability in teaching English such as in lesson planning, teaching media, teaching and learning activity and teaching assessment. While the challenges in teaching English to young learners were from students’ behavior. The students’ unawareness, unwillingness and laziness to study were the challenges of teaching English for young learners.

This research discusses the involving chain massage to accommodate young learners' learning style in which is conducted at grade 4 of one elementary school in Bandung. The aim of this research are (1) involving chain massage games in teaching English to the young learner, especially in grade 4 of an elementary school in Bandung, (2) finding out teacher’s and children’s responses toward the implementation of chain message in TEYL. This research uses a qualitative study where there are 40 students and one English teacher as the participants. The findings of this study show that chain messages can be considered as an effective activity of TEYL.The children seem to learn English more excitedly by game. With regard to the teacher, chain message game creates classroom activities more interesting and joyful because the children’s are involved in. Moreover, this game is also support different learning style of the children, visual, auditory and kinesthetic. However, the teachers found some obstacles in implementing the technique because they still children who easily get bored.

The implementation of the newest curriculum (Curriculum 2013) leads some elementary schools to finally exclude English from the schools subjects. However, some elementary schools that keep teaching English as a subject still cannot provide appropriate English teaching media, especially to teach vocabulary. In this study, the researchers aimed to know the problems faced by the English teacher and the fourth grade students of SD N 2 Sekaran in the vocabulary teaching and learning, and also to know how to develop teaching media of Kangaroo Smart Frieze. The Research and Development (R & D) approach was adopted by conducting the preliminary survey, designing and developing the prototype of the product, conducting limited testing and product validation, having a revision process and describing the research result. The subjects of the study were the fourth grade students of SDN 2 Sekaran in the academic year of 2013/2014. The instruments used were questionnaires, interview guideline and test. According to the interview to the English teacher and students, it can be concluded that the vocabulary teaching media of Kangaroo Smart frieze needs to be developed with the focus on the quality of the media and also the variety of games played. The development of Kangaroo Smart Frieze was started by observing and interviewing the English teacher and students. After doing that, the process was continued by planning the data collecting instrument of vocabulary teaching media. The main consideration was based on the English curriculum (syllabus) of the fourth grade students of elementary school and also some related theories. Moreover, the data collecting instrument was arranged into two main parts which included the need analysis of the students and English teacher. The further step was designing the prototype. The development process was then followed by other steps; product validation, try-out (limited testing) and revision of Kangaroo Smart Frieze. The results of the students’ test by using Kangaroo Smart Frieze as the vocabulary teaching media, and also the assessment from the experts were very good. Therefore, it could be concluded that Kangaroo Smart Frieze has a good prospect to be used in the vocabulary teaching and learning process. As suggestion, the teachers should always try to choose appropriate vocabulary teaching media, and the future researchers should conduct better research and development to develop better vocabulary teaching media for elementary school students.

Teaching English to young learners at elementary school is different from that to adults. The English teachers to young learners in elementary school, therefore, need to comprehend and to apply the theories of language teaching-learning to young learners and language classroom management. Besides, the English teachers are not only required to be able to teach well but also to be able to design materials so that they can apply approaches, methods, and techniques of teaching-learning English appropriately.This article discusses teaching English to young learners, the theories of teaching English to young learners at elementary school, English classroom management at elementary school, and what to consider in designing teaching-learning materials.To reach the goal of the teaching and learning of English at elementary school, the English teachers at elementary school should know and apply the theories of teaching English to young learners. Besides, they should also know what to consider in designing teaching-learning materials in order that the materials given to the students are appropriate for the students’ development in relation to languages.

This paper aims to discuss the implementation of English education in elementary school in Japan. What challenges faced by the implementation of English education in elementary school. This paper reviewed some articles and book chapter regarding teaching English at elementary school in Indonesia and Japan, and the principles of teaching English to young learners (TYL). First, it provides an overview of the characteristics of young learners and challenges faced by teachers in the teaching English to young learners. Second, it will briefly describe the history of English education in Japan, followed by the discussion of the present implementation of English education at elementary schools. English is an international language used by the people all over the world, therefore to master English-speaking, writing, reading and listening especially for educated people is a must. Knowing this, Indonesian government prepares early and declares that English should be taught as compulsory local content subject in the Elementary school. It is good idea because very young children are easily able to understand English. The government introduces English as a compulsory local content subject taught since they are in the Elementary school throughout Indonesia in order that after they graduate from Elementary school, they then continue to learn it until they graduate from University and have the mentioned skills. That is why, the researcher is interested in conducting the English teaching research at SDN Bogorejo Merakurak Tuban by choosing the title “Teaching English as a Local Content in the Fourth Grade Students of SDN Bogorejo Merakurak Tuban. The researcher wants to know and describes how she teaches them, what she does, what materials she prepares, and what is the students attitude towards the teaching of English. The result of this study is expected to be able to give an important contribution on the development of teaching English strategy that can support the development of teaching and learning English.   This research is qualitative research in form of case study. The researcher takes only one class-the fourth class students of SDN Bogorejo Merakurak Tuban as the object of research. The approach of the research is phenomenological approach in which the researcher observes and interprets the facts based on  the phenomena in the classroom during the teaching of English although it is may be subjective.  The researcher also finds the data from many literatures to get theory and and principle as the secondary data used as a means of analyzing it. The method of research he uses is descriptive-qualitative which means that he just describes his finding on the teaching of English. The subject of the research is the students of four class of SDN Bogorejo Merakurak Tuban and the number of it is 24 students. The result of the research is that teacher at SDN Bogorejo Merakurak Tuban has taught the students successfully. The Researcher does the research since the students get into the classroom and study through the model of Luring since the first week of September 2020. The teacher prepares the material well and applied many kinds of strategy to motivate students to learn English diligently.  After studying English, the students now become so enthusiastic that they study by themselves at home because of their own will.

The objectives of this study were to examine the impact of school from home in teaching and learning English for young learners. This study employed a case study approach, which is an embedded single-case design. A set of questionnaires was distributed to twelve young learners in the fourth grade of an elementary school in Singaraja and one English teacher. The young learners in this study were selected with purposive sampling, where participants were selected based on their parents' and teachers’ consent. Furthermore, an interview was also conducted with one English teacher from an elementary school in Singaraja to obtain the supplementary data. The findings indicate that the impact of school from home in teaching and learning English had some positive and negative impacts. Therefore, this study ends with suggestions for teachers and parents during school from home.

In teaching and learning process strategy is an activity that should be done both teacher and learner in order to get learning activity become effective and efficient. In short, teaching strategies are very important since they determine the success of teaching process. Strategies used by teachers should be interesting and can capture students’ attention. Some of the strategies used in teaching speaking are such cooperative activities as role-play, creative tasks, and drilling [1]. This article report a qualitative study that find out teacher’s strategies in teaching English speaking to young learners in junior school. Two junior school teacher in SMP Purnama were participated in this research and data were collected through interviews based on a case study design. The result of this study indicated the technique employed by the teacher in teaching speaking were so various such as role play, storytelling, social strategy and discussion. Teachers at SMP Purnama use more than one teaching strategy same like explanation above. This strategy helps students in an easier, faster, and more fun way mastering vocabulary so that it greatly supports the improvement of students' speaking skills. The teachers chooses a strategy based on the principles of teaching speaking. The teacher uses several strategies to help students are more motivated to learn and can add to their new vocabulary.

Teaching English to young learners is not an easy task. Teacher needs to use appropriate learning strategies so the students are engaged and motivated in teaching and learning process. The current study aimed at identifying the teaching English strategies used by fifth grade English teacher and the problems encountered by teacher in teaching English for young learner. This study was a descriptive qualitative research and conducted in SD Suta Dharma Denpasar Bali. In collecting the data, classroom observation and interview were conducted. The result showed that there were eight strategies applied by teacher in teaching English. They are; listen and repeat, listen and do, question and answer, in-pair, cooperative learning, and games. Furthermore, the problems experienced by teacher were lack of media of teaching English and lack of knowledge of strategy in TEYL. The problems occurred because the teacher has a limited knowledge on how to teach English for young learners and the lack of resources of teaching media available in school.

<p>Over the last few decades, teaching English become a phenomenon in Saudi Arabia, especially to young learners. English is taught as a main subject in kindergarten and elementary schools. Like any other children, Saudis accept new foreign languages easily, but they get bored very fast if the teacher is teaching them using the old conventional methods and techniques. The aim of this paper is to prove that games are effective tools when devised to explain vocabularies and they make it easier to remember their meanings. This paper deals with a literature review of teaching English vocabulary to young learners using games. Then it discusses the importance of using games in teaching vocabulary and in what way using them is helpful. After that it investigates the practical implications of using games to teach vocabulary that includes the implementation of vocabulary games and some examples of games that could be used to teach vocabulary to children. And finally it examines challenges teachers face when teaching vocabulary using games to young learners.</p>

Value education is a conscious and planned effort to help students recognize the values that must be used as a guide in behaving and behaving in everyday life. The purpose of this research was to determine the value education strategy as forming the personality of students in schools, especially at the elementary school level. SDN Nagreg 04 is one of the elementary schools that instill value education as a way of shaping the personality of students so that they become personal benefits for others. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods and uses data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation studies. Based on research results show that the value education strategy as forming the personality of students in schools can be started from the curriculum and tools such as syllabus and lesson plans, plan various programs that can support the process of value education to students, integrated with teaching and learning activities, and through collaboration between schools, parents, and society.
