Wells as a source of water that is commonly used by people in Indonesia are very dependent on the conditions of the surrounding environment. The presence of environmental pollution by waste will be very dangerous, especially if the waste contains heavy metals such as Cr(VI). The highly soluble nature of Cr(VI) allows the process of infiltration from the river into the well water. This study aims to analyze the content of Cr(VI) in the well water of residents around the Citarum River. Samples were taken from two areas that have the criteria for the level of pollution and the environment which is dense with industrial activity, with a total of ten wells spread over the area. The concentration measurement was carried out using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 357.9 nm. The results showed that the levels of Cr(VI) ion at Location 1 were in the range of 0.014 – 0.022 ppm so that it could still be used for daily activities because it was below the threshold value. At Location 2, there are six wells whose water is still suitable for use because the value of the Cr(VI) ion content is still below the threshold value. Meanwhile, the water in the other four wells contains Cr(VI) ion level that exceeds the threshold value, so it can be said that it is not suitable for daily use.

Air pollution is a problem that needs attention, especially pollution by heavy metals such as lead (Pb). This research was conducted to measure the levels of Pb in the blood of people who do a lot of daily activities on the highway in the Ulaanbaatar region, Mongolia, so that an overview of the level of exposure to Pb in the air is obtained. The study was conducted using an observational method by measuring the blood directly from the participants using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The participants involved were 20 people who met the criteria. The results showed that the average level of Pb in the blood of people who had daily activities on the highway was 8.97 ppm. Where the smallest level is 5.12 ppm and the highest level is 12.06 ppm. This value is far above the threshold value determined by WHO, which is 0.05 ppm. Therefore, it can be concluded that the air quality in the Ulaanbaatar area is in the poor category with a high level of Pb exposure.

Abstract In several series of 581 samples, Higher Fungi, especially from the Boletales and Gasteromycetes, were analyzed by atomic absorption spectroscopy on their content of the trace metal silver. The highest Ag-content was found in the Lycoperdales (max. 50 mg/kg dry matter) and in some species of the genus Boletus (max. 15 mg Ag/kg). The other fungi tested showed a mean silver content of 1 mg/kg or lower. The species with the highest amounts of the trace metal were found to enrich silver 300 fold compared to the substrate.

Objective: A large number of farmers are growing different vegetables and supplying them to the Solapur market. The majority of these farms are located on the banks of the “nullah”, whose water is used for irrigation. From, a farm field in Degaon, a village on the Solapur–Mangalvedha road and on the bank of ‘nullah’ two fruit vegetables viz., Ladies Finger (Bhendi) and Cluster Beans (Gawar) are evaluated in the study. The purpose of this study was to analyse the presence of selected toxic non-essential heavy metals i.e. Arsenic (As), Cadmium (Cd), Chromium (Cr), Lead (Pb) and Mercury (Hg) in the two vegetables. Methods: Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) was used for determining the concentration of heavy metals. Optimised wet acid digestion procedure was employed to solubilize the metals from the vegetable samples. Results: The following concentrations (mg/kg) of the non-essential heavy metals were found in the edible parts of the Ladies Finger and Cluster Beans, respectively: Ladies Finger: As (16.07), Hg (16.77), Pb (1.148), Cr (17.14), Cd (0.704 mg/kg) and Cluster Beans: As (18.76), Hg (21.86), Pb (1.675), Cr (17.14), Cd (0.888 mg/kg). The study revealed the presence of all the chosen NEHMs in the vegetables. Cadmium levels in both Cluster Beans and Ladies Finger were below the maximum acceptable limit and hence fit for human consumption as per FSSAI standards As (1.1), Pb (1.0), Cd (1.5), Hg (1.0 ppm). Though unsafe as per WHO/FAO standards As (0.1), Pb (0.5), Cd (0.2), Cr (1.2), Hg (0.05 ppm). Conclusion: The other three NEHMs levels were approximately 15 times more than the permitted levels and hence might pose danger on human consumption.

In this study, soils, well waters, drinking waters, and waste water in the Isfahan industrial area were sampled in spring and summer 2018. In 8 points of industrial zone, important toxic heavy metals such as, lead (Pb), Cobalt (Co), Nickel (Ni), Chromium (Cr), and Cadmium (Cd) were sampled from surface soil (up to 2 m), well/drinking waters and waste water. After sample preparation with micro-wave digestion technique, the concentration of heavy metals was determined by electro-thermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ET-AAS). According to the well water analysis, the mean concentration of Cr, Ni, Co, Cd, and Pb in well water were 95 μg L-1, 146 μg L-1, 185 μg L-1, 12 μg L-1, and 11 μg L-1, respectively. In well water, the concentrations of Cd, Ni, Cr and Co were found much higher than Pb in comparison with the references of World Health Organization (WHO).

Abstract In a series of 190 samples, higher fungi, especially from the genus Agaricus, were analyzed by atomic absorption spectroscopy on their content of the trace metals cadmium, zinc, and copper. Cd was found to be present in high concentrations in some Agaricus species belonging to special taxonomic groups. In relation to soil concentrations, Cd is highly enriched in some Agaricus spec., the enrichment being a taxonomic criterion of special value. Among the remaining genera of higher fungi, only Leucoagaricus and Amanita showed similiar enrichment properties for cadmium. The chemically related metals Zn and Cu were found to be relative uniformely distributed in all analyzed fungi. No synergistic or antagonistic relationship between Cd and the other two metals could be detected in the mushrooms.
