The development of Islamic banking in mature growing very rapidly, Islamic banking is considered as an alternative option for people who want to trade in sharia, Islamic banks are present in the community began in 1992, andthe institution until 2017 there were 12 Islamic banks, 22 Sharia Islamic rural banks and 155 units BPR in Indonesia, a very tight competition in the banking industry led to a strategy that should be done by the banking system. BRI Syariah Batam as a new Islamic bank in the Islamic banking industry and nationally are expected to compete for the national market share.The purpose of this study whether strategy should BRI Syariah Batam in order to be able to compete Kepualauan Riau, To know the strategies that should be used by the author using SWOT 8 Quadrant.From the results of research by analyzing the internal and external corporate Batam found that BRI Syariah expected to apply aggressive growth strategy by way of market penetration, market development and product development.

Objective – Islamic Banks have a distinct advantage that is not only conduct a commercial operation, but to also conduct social operations. Therefore, Islamic Banks plays an important role in developing the Indonesian economy. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of internal and external factors that affect the profitability of Islamic Banks in Indonesia. Methodology/Technique – The methodology of this research is multiple regression. The object of this research is the Islamic banking industry in Indonesia. Internal factors include size, liquidity, asset quality, management, and efficiency ratio. External factors include interest rate and inflation. Return on Assets is used to measure profitability. The monthly data is collected from the financial reports of Islamic Banks between 2011 to 2016. Findings – The findings show that size, liquidity, assets quality, management ratio, interest rate and inflation lead to a greater Return on Assets (profitability) in Islamic Banks in Indonesia. Efficiency however does not have a significant effect on profitability of Islamic Banks in Indonesia. Novelty – Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that the Islamic banking industry can use those variables to improve the profitability of Islamic banks in the future. In addition, there are two variables that affect the profitability of Islamic banking industry. For the Islamic banking industry should anticipate the movement of inflation and interest to improve the profitability of Islamic banks. Type of Paper: Empirical paper. Indonesian Islamic banking market share projected by Bank Indonesia is an integral part in developing the industry in the country. By setting a projection which will then be used as a benchmark / target, Islamic banks can make a necessary program to attract new customers which eventually increase its asset. If the increase of the asset is significant,the Islamic bank market share may increase. The problem is that the current projection by Bank Indonesia seems to be off target. It means that the projection is pretty much above the actual value. This paper attempts to utilize two projection methods namely Spline and Auto-ARIMA which we think can provide a better result. This study uses the monthly data covering period since January 2006 until December 2012. The result shows that our projections, especially using Spline method, are closer to the actual value of the Islamic banking industry market share. It means that the gap between the projection and the actual value of market share is lesser than the gap on the Bank Indonesia calculation. Moreover, this study argue that, the projection of the Islamic banking market share made by BI will not be achieved unless with government support. So far, government has not made any policy which deposit some of the national budget in the Islamic bank. This study calculates that if government regularly depositing 1% of total National Government Budget in Islamic banks, the projection of Islamic banking market share made by BI will be acheived. At present Islamic banking is growing rapidly, along with these developments various types of Islamic Bank products are also growing, where product innovation is the key to Islamic banking to be more competitive and more rapidly developed in accordance with the needs of the community. Product development strategies are one aspect of a marketing strategy. Banking product development is an effort to increase customers by introducing new banking products. The strategy of developing banking products is an effort to increase the number of customers by developing or introducing new banking products. Innovation and creativity in product creation are one of the main keys in this strategy. In general, every Islamic bank in running its business has five operational principles, namely as follows: Principles of pure savings, the principle of profit sharing, the principle of buying and selling, the principle of rent, and the principle of service (fee). Product development strategies are part of a corporate strategy. Islamic banks provide many options for the community to obtain financing that does not only depend on one type of bank with its products, if Islamic banks are able to read the potential of the region and the needs of the population is owned by Islamic banking, the development of Islamic banking products is a necessity for Islamic banks those in the region to be able to answer the needs of the community. This condition can occur can not be separated from the support of DPS who must be active and innovative and be with each bank in the area. As well as product marketing strategies must be carried out by conducting strategic alliances with mass media (radio, television and print media) and event organizers in the form of exhibitions (expo), so that these products are widely known and directly felt by the public at large. In certain expos such as people can directly register for sharia credit cards or make financing requests for the purchase of sharia products that are on display. Muslim participations in using Islamic bank are relatively low. This study expands the Theory of Planned Behavior by adding the variables of religiosity and self-efficacy. Previous studies have not examined this new expanded model to analyze customers who participated in using the saving Islamic bank’s products and services. Based on 220 Islamic bank consumers who participated in the study, the study indicated that questionnaires about religiosity and self-efficacy had good external validity and could be adapted for the Indonesian culture context. The most interesting finding was that the religiosity variable strongly enhanced the use of Islamic banks. Similarly, this study found that the self-efficacy variable improved an intention of customers to participate in the Islamic banking system. This paper also discusses the implications of the findings and recommendations for future studies.

One of potential exploration and manifestation of the community's contribution to the national economy, is the development of an economic system based on the value of Islamic (Sharia) by lifting its principles into the National Legal System. Shariah principles based on the values of fairness, expediency, balance, and universality (rahmatan lil 'alamin). Those values are applied in banking regulation that is based on the so-called Sharia Islamic Banking. Principles of Islamic Banking is part of Islamic teachings related to the economy. In addition, to provide assurance to the people who still doubt shariah Islamic Banking operations during this time also set of business activities that do not conflict with Sharia Principles include business activities that do not contain elements of riba, maisir gharar, haram, and zalim. A separate regulation for Islamic Banking is an urgent thing to do, to ensure compliance with Shariah principles, the principles of the Bank for Islamic Bank, and no less important is expected to mobilize funds from other countries that requires the regulation of the Islamic Bank. Problems faced, how the strategy and the constraints faced in Islamic Banking Industry Product Innovation in developing the economy in Indonesia by Islamic Banking Act. This study aims to look for and find in the practice of the ways and forms of Islamic banking product innovation, as well as the constraints that it faces.This research, analytical, descriptive and normative juridical approach, and aims to provide a complete picture of the facts and the systematic application of Sharing in Islamic banks. Furthermore, the data were analyzed through statutory provisions in force, which among one another should not be contradictory, pay attention to the hierarchy with the aim to achieve legal certainty, by searching and digging law who live in the community, whether it is written or unwritten (Islamic law).The results showed that the strategy which remove products of Islamic banking industry innovation, improve human resources SDI), and marketing of products strategically. Constraints faced in Islamic Banking Industry Product Innovation in developing the economy in Indonesia, it is very difficult to do because fixated on Islamic principles. Suggestions put forward, should disseminate innovative products to the public and the effectiveness of supervision of Islamic banks (Internal & ekstenal).

Abstract: Sociologically, the existence of Islamic banks in Indonesia had developed since the early 1990 through a long time of workshops and bureaucratic processes until Bank Muamalat Indonesia was established as the first Islamic bank in Indonesia. The existence of Bank Muamalat Indonesia, as the first Islamic bank, has a mission to present an Islamic banking institution that is free from the interest system by replacing its operational system through Islamic principles. Normatively, the profit sharing concept used to an operational system for Islamic banks in Indonesia which has been regulated in Article 1 Number 12 of the Law of Banking Number 7 of 1992, then the dual banking system in Article 9 of the Law of Banking Number 10 of 1998, and the latest. is the application of Islamic principles in the Law of Islamic Bank Number 21 of 2008 through using six patterns: first, the deposit through the wadi'ah contract; second, borrowing through qard and qardh al-hasan contracts; third, the profit sharing scheme through mudharabah and syirkah contracts; fourth, buying and selling through murabahah, salam, and istishna' contracts; fifth, the rental scheme through ijarah and ijarah muntahiya bi al-tamlik contracts; and sixth, the services through wakalah, kafalah, hiwalah, ujr, sharf, and rahn contracts. The result of this study shows that the changes of Islamic banking regulations have implications to the dynamics of Islamic contract implementation in Islamic banking financial products in Indonesia.Abstrak: Secara sosiologis eksistensi bank syariah di Indonesia sudah berkembang sejak awal tahun 1990-an melalui serangkaian proses panjang lokakarya dan birokrasi sehingga berdiri Bank Muamalat Indonesia sebagai bank syariah pertama di Indonesia. Eksistensi Bank Muamalat Indonesia sebagai bank syariah memiliki misi untuk menghadirkan lembaga perbankan syariah yang bebas dari sistem bunga dengan mengganti sistem opersionalnya dengan prinsip-prinsip Islam. Penggunaan konsep bagi hasil sebagai sistem operasional bank syariah di Indonesia secara normatif telah diatur dalam Undang-Undang Nomor 7 Tahun 1992 tentang Perbankan pada Pasal 1 angka 12, kemudian dual banking system dalam Pasal 9 Undang-Undang Nomor 10 Tahun 1998 dan yang terkahir adalah penerapan prinsip syariah dalam Undang-Undang Nomor 21 Tahun 2008 dengan menggunakan enam pola: pertama, pola titipan melalui akad wadi’ah; kedua, pola pinjaman, melalui akad qard dan qardh al-hasan; ketiga, pola bagi hasil melalui akad mudharabah dan syirkah; keempat, pola jual beli melalui akad murabahah, salam, dan istishna’; kelima, pola sewa melalui akad ijarah dan ijarah muntahiya bi al-tamlik; keenam, pola jasa melalui akad wakalah, kafalah, hiwalah, ujr, sharf, dan rahn. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa perubahan regulasi perbankan syariah telah berimpli­kasi terhadap dinamika penerapan akad syariah dalam produk keuangan bank syariah di Indonesia.

PurposeSince the establishment of Islamic banks in Malaysia since the 1980s, the banking system has undergone rampant development within the financial industry. It has resulted in a positive competitive challenge for the conventional banks and able to attract not just the Muslim customers, but also those non-Muslim customers. At the same time, understanding the customers' knowledge of Islamic banking products is an interesting issue to explore. This issue is raised because the Islamic bank products are often packaged using Arabic terms, even though it is marketed in non-Arabic countries like Malaysia. Therefore, this study aims to examine the factors that influence the intention of the Islamic banking customers as the result of relying on some information produced by Malaysian Islamic banks.Design/methodology/approachThis study is conducted using the existing underpinning theory of planned behaviour (TPB). A total of 300 questionnaires were analysed using the structural equation modelling (SEM).FindingsThe results indicated that perceived behavioural control, attitude and subjective norms of the Islamic banking depositors are positively influenced by the intention of the depositors to learn about Islamic banking.Research limitations/implicationsOne of the main issues faced in this study is the result cannot be generalised. It is not possible to know based on the collected data if the sample is representative, other than the fact that all of the respondents are Islamic bank depositors. Nevertheless, it can still be a catalyst for further research as a link to existing findings in the area. There might be a bias on the understanding of the respondents about Islamic banking. This is due to the fact that Malaysia is a multi-racial population. Malay people might have a better understanding and basic knowledge about Islamic banking than the Chinese, Indians and other races. This cultural bias could be overcome in future studies by identifying respondents who have experiences in dealing with Islamic banking.Originality/valueThis study provides interesting insights of the Malaysian banking industry in terms of the multi-racial customers' intention to learn about Islamic banking, which is scarcely discussed in the extant literature.Peer reviewThe peer review history for this article is available at: https://publons.com/publon/10.1108/IJSE-01-2019-0011.

Comparing to conventional bank, Islamic banking industry in Indonesia relatively still in the early development stage. Islamic bank is different with conventional bank, and therefore there is a special regulation for Islamic bank. Research conducted in 22 countries (including Indonesia), shows that Islamic banking and has differences with conventional banking in term of business orientation, efficiency, asset kuality and stability. But other research 13 countries (not including Indonesia), show that Islamic banking’s performance is lower than conventional banking (Ariss, 2010). Islamic banking in Indonesia has a unique characteristic. Most of Islamic banking in Indonesia is converted from conventional bank, owned by conventional bank or originated from a conventional bank. Some resource of Islamic bank comes from conventional banking even some of them still using resource from their conventional bank as their parent. This result raises a question, whether in the context of Islamic banking in Indonesia, its performance is significantly different from conventional banks. To answer the research questions above, we do a t-test on ROA and ROE Islamic banks and conventional banks from 2009-2014. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the financial performances of Islamic banks with conventional banks, except for 2014. In 2014 Islamic bank’s ROE is lower than conventional banks. This research opens the opportunity to study the factors that could cause a difference in the performance of Islamic banks vs conventional banks.

Indonesia is among the few countries that adopts dual banking system where Islamic banks run in parallel and compete with conventional banks. Although under such a system banking competition would be expected to be high, data tend to show the opposite case, as three Islamics banks acquired 65 percent of market share in Indonesia. This study, therefore, attempts to determine the degree of banking competition in Indonesia by employing the Panzar-Rosse Model for 2003-2008 period. The study also analyses the competitive behaviors of Islamic banks and compares it with those of its conventional counterparts. The estimated model suggests that monopolistic competition exists in the overall banking industry—the degree is even slightly higher for Islamic banking, where the market is characterized by aggressive competition for funding, quality human resources, and financing. Such competition occurs due to, among others, small market size, low consumer base, lack of product variations, and lack of competent human resources. These should be a major concern for all Islamics banking stakeholders for developing a better Islamic banking industry, particularly in Indonesia.
