scholarly journals DEVELOPING ENGLISH LISTENING MATERIALS FOR THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF MUSIC PERFORMING ART VOCATIONAL SCHOOL

The aim of this study was to find out an appropriate English listening materials for the Grade X students of music performing art vocational school. Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK) or Vocational School is an institution where students are prepared to be work-ready after finishing their education in specific major. Music Performing Art is one of the major provided in Indonesia’s vocational school. By the fact that listening activities are often ignored by teachers and that listening is one of the test in the National Examination, then listening activities are considered important in English learning activity. However, the finding of materials that provided for the Grade X students of Music Performing Art major at SMK Negeri 11 Medan shows that the listening materials provided in the textbook are not related to the students’ major, instead the materials are rather general and more suitable for other major. Therefore, it is needed to develop the English listening materials for the tenth grader of music performing art major. Small-Scale Research and Development (R&D) is the suitable method in developing the materials. Based on the students’ needs analysis obtained from the questionnaires which responded by 64 students and interviews which involved 4 students, the researcher found that 78.13% of the respondents assumed that the existing materials provided by the teachers are general, and further 93.75% expect a major-related English listening materials. The materials are developed by adding some musical terms, like music instruments, and topics related to musical field, like popular singer’s profile, as a step to meet the students’ needs. The experts’ validation shows that the materials are appropriate and recommended to be used. Based on the result of the study, conclusion and suggestions are directed to the English teachers in SMK Negeri 11 Medan, especially, and in other music major vocational school, generally, who are expected to provide materials which are related to the students’ major, by doing so the students might have motivation in learning English and to support their knowledge to be a professional musicians. Key words: Research and Development (R&D) method, English listening materials, Music performing art major

The objective of this study is to find out what the English listening materials are appropriate for students in tourism major. Indonesia has many spots for tourism then it makes government to improve the students’ ability in tourism major. Since the students need to communicate with other people especially tourist then it needs to improve listening skill. Because basically listening is a skill of English that consists of receiving, constructing, and responding to verbal or nonverbal massage. In fact, the finding of materials that provided for the Grade X students of Tourism major at SMK Negeri 7 Medan that listening materials provided in the textbook are not related to the students’ major. Then it is needed to develop the English listening materials for the tenth grade of tourism major. The research was conducted by using Research and Development (R&D) method. The subject of this research was 2016/2017 students of the tenth grade of tourism major in SMK Negeri 7 Medan. The number of the students was 26 students. The data of this study were collected by using need analysis questionnaire, and interview. It was found that 61.90% of the respondents assumed that existing listening materials are not related to their major, and 93.75% expected major-related English listening materials. The experts’ validation shows that the developed listening materials are appropriate and recommended to be used. At the end of this study, teachers are expected to be able to see the students’ needs and can prepare even develop the materials in order to meet students’ needs and job. Key words: Research and Development, English listening materials, Tourism

The purpose of this research is to develop smart binoculars learning media for trigonometry material in Vocational Schools so that it can help and facilitate mathematics teachers in explaining one of the concepts of trigonometry material. The type of research used in this research is Research and Development (R&D) while the development of instructional media refers to the modified Borg and Gall model, namely research and collection, planning, product draft development, expert validation, small-scale trials. The development has three criteria, namely valid, practical and effective. The results showed that obtained from filling out the validation sheet by the material expert and media expert validators were in the valid category. Furthermore, the practicality of smart binoculars learning media based on student response questionnaire the average student is satisfied with the learning experience using learning media and for the effectiveness of smart binoculars learning media get positive things because the evaluation of ten samples of students gets grades above minimal completeness criteria.

This study aims to develop English reading materials needed by students of Vocational School and develop English reading materials for students of Audio Video Program based on Contextual Teaching and Learning. The research was conducted by Research and Development (R & D) design through six phases; gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing new materials, validating by experts, revising, and final product. It was conducted in SMK N 1 PercutSei Tuan, especially grade X. The data were gathered by administering interview and distributing questionnaire to 23 respondents to get the students’ needs. The interview and questionnaire results prove that the students need English reading materials which contain English for Audio Video program.The average scores are the first from English lecturer and the second from English teacher. It means that the developing materials categorized as suitable or approriate for grade X of Audio Video program. Key words: Research and Development (R & D), reading materials, Audio Video Program.

The purpose of the study generally is to facilitate high school students preparation for National Test and State/private Entrance Test and specifically the purposes are 1)to increase the activity of  English learning videos through website, 2) to increase the learning activity through internet. The stages of this research consists of 5 stages such as; a) capturing English learning videos, b) creating website, c) uploading the videos to the website, d) launching the website to the third year of Bontang State Vocational School 3, and e) evaluating the website content. The results show that video learning designs is the most chosen feature(89%)  than other features on the website.   Furthermore, the questionaires reaveal that  100%  give positive responses to the website given.

The development research is initiated by the lack of students’ knowledge in determining the Properties of Ionic and Covalent Compounds, and aimed at designing the student worksheet. Using Research and Development model of 3D (Define, Design, and Develop), this study included validation sheet, teacher and students questionnaires, and pretest posttest as the instruments. The study reveals a number of findings. First, the average score of validation criteria was 99,43% (strongly valid), with an average score of media expert by 89,58% (strongly valid). Second, the results of practicality criteria taken from the students respon were 85,53% (strongly practical), and from the teacher respon was 98 ,75% (strongly practical). Third, the effectiveness criteria of pretest and posttest after taught by Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) worksheet and counted by N-gain was considered very good (0,701). In conclusion, Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) Based Worksheet is effectively used as teaching materials in Properties of Ionic and Covalent Compounds class of the tenth grade students of Pharmacy atPanca Bhakti Vocational School Sungai Raya.Keywords: Students worksheet, Predict-Observe-Explain (POE), Properties of Ionic and Covalent Compound

Abstract Development of Android-based Mobile Learning Media with Ispring Suite in Electrical Motor Installation Subjects Class XI Department of Electrical Installation Engineering at Imelda Private Vocational School Medan, 2020. This study aims to find out the design of a media Development of Android-based Mobile Learning Media with Ispring Suite in Electrical Motor Installation Subjects Class XI Department of Electrical Installation Engineering at Imelda Private Vocational School Medan and test the feasibility of Android-based Mobile Learning learning media designed as a learning medium for students. This research was conducted on grade XI students of TITL SMK Swasta Imelda Medan in the 2019/2020 school year. This research was tested to lecturers and teachers. The procedure of developing Android-based learning media in the subjects of installing a simple building electric motor installation packaged in the form of interactive softcopy/CD software is carried out using the R&D method of ADDIE development design. As well as the media feasibility validation processAbstract must reflect the overall substance of the article content and be able to help readers determine its relevance to their interests and decide whether to read the document in its entirety, esearchers use the ADDlE method in research and development. The results of this study showed the validation of the poll of media experts with an average of 4.20 interpretations is very good and very worthy to be used as a medium of learning. Validation of material experts (content experts) with an average of 4.72 interpretations is very well used as a medium of learning. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada siswa kelas XI TITL SMK Swasta Imelda Medan tahun ajaran 2019/2020. Penelitian ini diuji cobakan kepada Dosen dan Guru. Prosedur pengembangan media pembelajaran berbasis Android pada mata pelajaran memasang instalasi motor listrik bangunan sederhana yang dikemas dalam bentuk software softcopy/CD interaktif dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode R&D desain pengembangan ADDIE. Serta proses validasi kelayakan media, peneliti menggunakan metode ADDlE dalam penelitian dan pengembangan (Research and Development). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan validasi angket ahli media dengan rata-rata 4,20 interpretasi sangat baik dan sangat layak digunakan sebagai media pemebelajaran. Validasi ahli materi (pakar konten) dengan rata-rata 4,72 interpretasi sangat baik digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran. This study was a Research and Development study (R&D) used Sugiyono’s model which aimed at (1) analyzing the design of the existing English lesson plans in SMK Triatma Jaya Singaraja, (2) identifying the problems faced by the English teacher in designing good English lesson plans (3) determining the good design of Character Based English Lesson Plans in SMK Triatma Jaya Singaraja (4) determining the quality of the Character Based Lesson Plans developed. The data of the present study were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively. This result showed that the existing lesson plans did not clearly state the values of nation character and the assessment and it was not explicitly stated on the learning activity. The learning activity seemed monotone. There seemed to be materials repetition. The materials must be suitable with the students’ department. The lesson plans developed were designed based on technical guideline of lesson plan development proposed by Board Directors of Senior High School Development (2010) with character assessment as an addition. The lesson plans were developed in form of integrated lesson plan. The lesson plans developed were effective and the quality is excellent.

The objectives of this study were: (1) to develop reading material for tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 2 Medan, (2) to develop students’ vocabulary by playing puzzles as the task. This study was conducted by Research and Development (R&D). The research procedures were adapted from Borg and Gall. This research were designed through six phases; 1) gathering data and information, 2) analyzing the data, 3) designing materials, 4) validating materials, 5) revising, and 6) final product. The data of this research were taken from existing materials, syllabus, teacher’s interview and students’ questioners. The result of this study showed that the students’ existing material were not relevant to electrical engineering program. The vocabulary that students’ get from the existing materials was less. The designing material was validated by English teacher and English lecturer. The product of this study is a set of reading material entitled “electricity holic” for students in SMK Negeri 2 Medan. The reading materials consist of three genres; descriptive, narrative and recount. Key words: Reading material, Research and Development (R&D), SMK Negeri 2 Medan, Puzzle, Vocabulary.

This study dealt with the development of English Reading Materials of vocational school, Al-WashliyahTeladan Medan, majoring Software Engineering. The objectives of this study were to: 1) find out language skill and materials are needed by the students of Software Engineering, 2) develop the English materials for the majoring in software engineering students at the vocational high school grade XII. This study was conducted by Educational Research and Development R&D (Borg & Gall, 1989). The data of this research were from existing documents and the result of interview with teacher and student. The results of the research conveyed that the existing reading materials were mostly irrelevant because the title and content of the material was not appropriate and was not required for the students majoring in software engineering. The new English reading materials and syllabus were developed based on the students need related to the workplace. The materials and syllabus were developed from the existing materials from teacher. The developing materials were validated by two experts.
