The paper considers the high unpredictability of the Russian economy and the variability of its environment, which adversely affect functioning of retail chains and force managers to look for new management methods based on systemic and integrated approaches. It is known that the effectiveness of managing the financial and economic activities of an organization directly depends on the availability of sufficient, reliable and properly structured accounting and analytical information, the systematization of which occurs through the controlling system and its tools. It should be noted that the theoretical and practical aspects of controlling in the Russian business are at the stage of formation, and foreign experience is often copied. In the trade industry, controlling with budgeting elements is practically not used and remains insufficiently developed in the methodological and methodological terms in the field of scientific and applied economics. The lack of research of controlling and its tools and, first of all, in relation to the key aspects of their implementation in the field of Russian retail trade, in particular in retail chains, is becoming more and more noticeable nowadays. There have been determined the theoretical provisions of controlling, has been clarified the interpretation of the concept of controlling in a trade organization and proposed a model of controlling in trade. The controlling model includes a system of internal accounting and reporting; it focuses on the result of the execution of information support tasks, drawing up and controlling plans. It has been inferred that the control system of a trade organization is heterogeneous and depends on the specific features of the trade industry and the enterprise as a whole, it must meet the goals, tasks and needs of the trade organization.

Foreign investment is the driving force behind the development of the Russian oil and gas complex and the economy as a whole. This was the case until 2014; the current situation has changed somewhat: the inflow of foreign investment in the Russian energy sector is complicated not only by the imposed sanctions, but also by the main obstacle - instability of world energy prices. The current price conjuncture, as well as the situation with supply and demand, is pushing foreign investors to reduce investment proposals. The article analyzes the dynamics, species and sectoral structure of annual flows of foreign investment in the Russian economy, which allows to identify the main trends in attracting foreign capital in the past few years. In the Russian economy, at the moment, the most attractive areas for foreign investors are mining, manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade. These economic activities account for more than 60% of the total foreign investment.

The article presents the results of the study investigating the purchasing behaviour of the residents of six large Polish cities (Warsaw, Wrocław, Katowice, Poznań, Białystok, and Gdańsk). Specifically, the study concentrates on the consumer shopping preferences with regard to grocery retail chains, pointing to the general differences and similarities, as well as gender- and age-specific tendencies. The study was conducted between 2016 and 2017 among 1970 respondents. This article also presents data from various reports of the research institutions from Poland and Europe: PMR, Nielsen, Ronald Berger, Euromonitor International, GfK Polonia. Training and education has become one of the key aspects in improving incentives programme, thus leading to improved cultural heritage preservation within heritage sites. The study investigated the relationship between the importance of training as a tool on incentivizing cultural heritage in selected traditional settlements in Malaysia. Data were collected through a survey from a total of 63 respondents in both Morten and Chitty Village situated at Melaka Historic City and was analysed using IBM SPSS Statistics 23.0 by means of running an exploratory factor analysis (EFA). The 10 indicator items studied for tangible heritage training have satisfactory factor loadings ranging from 0.59 to 0.77 and distribute across 2 extracted factors having satisfactory cumulative variance of 58.36 per cent. Furthermore, the themes of the distributed indicator items enabled the labelling of the 2 extracted factors to being ‘soft skills’ and ‘hard skills’ for tangible heritage training. Similarly, the 9 indicator items studied for intangible heritage training have satisfactory factor loadings ranging from 0.41 to 0.90 and distribute across 2 extracted factors having a satisfactory cumulative variance of 64.42 per cent. Furthermore, the themes of the distributed indicator items across the 2 extracted factors enabled the labelling of the factors to being ‘intangible arts’ and ‘legislation’ for intangible heritage training. These results found that the ‘explored’ indicator items are fit to be used in further structurally modelling both tangible and intangible heritage training as non-financial incentives in sustainably preserving traditional settlements. The implication of this research is its serving as an information support tool for such intended modelling purpose.

The article analyzes the role of introducing controlling in the management of the competitiveness potential of an enterprise in the internal and external markets. The main definitions of the term "controlling" are formulated. The main stages of controlling and its methodological support are determined. Controlling allows an enterprise to adapt to a constantly changing external environment and successfully survive in a competitive environment. The essence of controlling and its place in the enterprise management system can be considered from four approaches: functional, situational, process and systemic. At the same time, two types of controlling are distinguished, namely, operational and strategic, which form an integral controlling system that allows an enterprise to achieve its goals and results. The main purpose of strategic controlling as a management tool is to form the necessary information support and analytical base for the formation of a set of indicators (indicators) which will attest to the need for transformational changes, and about their effectiveness in the long term. With the help of the tools of operational controlling, a mechanism is formed that makes it possible to timely establish deviations from the planned path and correct the direction of development. The components of the controlling process can vary depending on the specifics of the activity and the goals of the company. The development of integration and globalization processes stimulates the development of enterprise transformation at certain stages of its life cycle. To correctly identify the transformation point, that is, to determine the set of control parameters that indicate the need for transformation, it is necessary to use the strategic controlling toolkit, which is designed to increase the competitiveness of the enterprise in the general business environment. Taking into account these development trends, strategic and tactical transformations as a tool for ensuring competitiveness and constant development in a dynamic external environment are a prerequisite for the development of a company.

The gold mining industry of the Russian Far East has a great development potential, whose economic growth largely depends on the efficiency of developing a unique mineral resource base. To do this, it is necessary to solve a number of tasks, including the management and organization of economic activities of enterprises engaged in the extraction of placer gold in medium and small volumes. Gold mining companies themselves positively assess the prospects for the development of the industry, despite the preservation of external restrictions imposed by Western countries. At the same time, the current position of the modern gold mining industry is determined not only by the state of the Russian economy, but also by a number of branch features related to the management of gold mining at the enterprise level. At the present time, there are increasing questions about the feasibility of consolidation of small and medium mining enterprises, which will allow them to overcome current trends in the economic development of the industry, by combining their own resources. At the same time, in practice, reverse phenomena are observed, indicating that the industry is segmented and the number of mining companies developing placer deposits is gradually increasing. However, consolidation processes, in the form of integration associations, represent one of the directions of development and effective functioning of Russian gold mining enterprises, therefore they require comprehensive research and remain relevant.

The article is dealing with the issues of state regulation of the consumer market, where the interests of producers, wholesale intermediaries, and retail trade are traditionally encountered. The authors consider the features of state regulation of the formation and development processes of multi-object and omnichannel trading systems in Russia in the context of the country's entry into the global economy, the opening of the domestic market for foreign business structures, and commodity imports in a situation with a small business that is not fully established. The results of the conducted study complement the experience of the international community in regulating system formation in trade. The article analyzes significant differences in the state intervention mechanisms in the economic relations of retail chains and their suppliers, as well as the impact of stricter legislation on wholesale trade, and its place and role in the commodity distribution system. The authors prove that excessive regulation of the retail market causes negative consequences in its adjacent segments, justify the upcoming redistribution of the market between large retail chains and specialized wholesale companies in favor of the former ones, show the development prospects of the distribution, and the impact of this process on small retail businesses, as well as formulate proposals for optimizing approaches to regulating the transformation of the trade sector in the transition economy.
