Moreover, they are analyzed in the context of the consequences of the revolution and civil war. The issues of the dynamics of sown areas and animal husbandry in this territory are considered. Based on the analysis of statistical data, the volumes and structure of the peasant plow and regional herd are presented. The question is raised about the correlation of natural, climatic and socio-political factors in the conditions of the agricultural crisis of the early 1920s. The novelty of the study is that for the first time based on the processing of statistics, the state and dynamics of the main agricultural sectors in the Kuzbass region (Kuzbass) in the specified period are presented. The relevance of the study is due to its scientific and social significance. The first is determined by the fact that this kind of research, based on the analysis of statistical data, is carried out for the first time. The article presents a methodology for assessing the impact of spatial environment on the socioeconomic development of municipalities. It relies on existing tools for assessing the state and potential of the geographical location of municipalities. An integrated approach allows to determine the potential of the interaction of the municipality with the neighbors of the first and second order. The methodology was tested on statistical data on the Blagovarsky municipal district.

Abstract Small towns, compared to larger cities, are specific group of municipalities with weaker performance in many spheres of socio-economic development. The aim of the paper is to comprehensively evaluate development of twelve small towns in the region of East Slovakia over the centuries up to present. The paper deals with question how their demographic and economic developments have been reciprocally influenced under particular historical circumstances. Using various sources of statistical data and employing traditional historical, mathematical-statistical and cartographical methods, regularities and patterns were identified that enabled us to categorize small towns and evaluate their development trajectories and current roles in the settlement system. In the most cases, they are still valid nodes for their hinterlands even though their past situation has been unfavourable.

The author presents the possibilities of using artificial neural networks in a multidimensional analysis – cluster analysis. The empirical example using districts of the Zachodniopomorskie (West Pomeranian) Voivodeship is the illustration of theoretical considerations. The study used statistical data from many areas related to socio-economic development: demography, labour market, natural environment, recreation, culture, social and technical infrastructure, and the economy. The aim of the study was to divide the voivodeship into disjointed typological groups of districts using Kohonen networks (Self-Organizing Maps). Several networks differing in structure of the output layer were constructed and trained. Selected diagnostic features of socio-economic development of districts were their input values. Using verified Kohonen networks, various sets of groups of the researched objects were created, and confirmed them are a useful tool for identifying clusters of districts similar to each other in terms of the level of socio-economic development.

Introduction. Improving the quality of the population is an important task for socio-economic development of the Russian Federation as a whole, as well as for its individual regions. Improvements in quality characteristics of the population can only be achieved by raising the quality and standard of living. The aim of this study is to identify the dependence of the quality of the population on the level of socio-economic development in a region and on the solution of socio-demographic problems (taking the Penza Region as an example). Materials and Methods. An analysis of statistical data from the Federal State Statistics Service for the Russian Federation and the Penza Region for 2005‒2018 was carried out. The methods of systems approach, comparative and demographic analysis, generalization, and statistical analysis were used to study the quality of population at the regional level. Results. Based on the analysis of primary statistical data, a high level of dependence of the quality of population of the Penza Region on demographic and socio-economic indicators of the region’s development has been identified and substantiated. The quality of the population of the Penza Region has been compared with other regions of Russia at the current stage and over time. The changes in the quality of population have revealed positive trends: an increase in the overall birth rate, reduction in the overall mortality rate, increasing natural growth rate of the population and life expectancy, growth of educational level of the population. At the same time, the natural growth rate of the population of the Penza Region has been much lower than the average level in Russia and below the indicators in the majority of constituent entities of the Volga Federal District, which is the most acute problem. Discussion and Conclusion. To date, the quality of the population of the Penza Region is a consequence of the increase in the level and quality of life in the region over the past 15 years, but in many respects it remains below the average Russian level. The results of this study can be used by the government of the Penza Region and other constituent entities of the Russian Federation when making decisions in the field of demographic and socio-economic policies.

Due to natural conditions (favourable climate and soil conditions) and the agrarian tradition, the agricultural sector in Georgia has a significant growth potential. Despite the fact that almost 40% of the population work in the agricultural occupations, this branch is not a priority for the Georgian economy. Literature, strategic documents prepared by the authorities of the country and the available statistical data indicate numerous problems blocking the development of the sector, thus inhibiting the development of the country and its regions, largely inhabited by the rural population. The aim of the study is to present the condition of the agricultural sector and its importance in the process of socio-economic development of Georgia and its regions. The survey was expanded with the analysis of demographic data for the rural areas in Georgia.
