Introduction. The modern educational environment in universities (including pedagogical ones) is both mono- and multicultural in nature, which involves students’ understanding of the unity and diversity of cultures. One of the conditions for the formation of individual moral position as an indicator of the spiritual-moral development of students – future teachers is the multicultural environment of a university. The purpose of the article is to study the influence of the multicultural environment on the formation of students’ moral position in the context of intercultural interaction. Materials and methods. The study involved two groups of students of the Voronezh State Pedagogical University (N = 95) in mono- and multicultural environments. A set of methods was used: “Diagnostics of Benevolence” questionnaire (according to the Campbell scale); value questionnaire by Schwartz; “Diagnostics of Individual Socio-Psychological Attitudes in the Motivational Sphere” by Potemkina; “Scale of Emotional Response” by Mehrabian and Epstein; “Questionnaire DUMEOLP – Diagnostics of the Level of Moral and Ethical Responsibility of the Personality” by Tymoshchuk. A statistical method – a nonparametric Mann-Whitney U test – was also used. Results. It was shown that students studying in a multicultural environment have more developed indicators of moral position, such as emotional response (U = 74.88, p ≤ 0.01), the level of benevolence (U = 5.82, p ≤ 0.05), the value of universalism (U = 4.46, p ≤ 0.01), as well as a less pronounced focus on selfishness (U = 3.24, p ≤ 0.01). The organization of communication and the peculiarities of presenting educational information determine the level of intercultural dialogue and the formation of more pronounced indicators of moral position. Conclusion. In accordance with the results obtained, it is proposed to create a program of psychological-pedagogical support for the formation of students’ moral position in the multicultural environment of a university.

Trends in the technology development of very large scale integrated circuits (VLSI) have been in the direction of higher density of components with smaller dimensions. The scaling down of device dimensions has been not only laterally but also in depth. Such efforts in miniaturization bring with them new developments in materials and processing. Successful implementation of these efforts is, to a large extent, dependent on the proper understanding of the material properties, process technologies and reliability issues, through adequate analytical studies. The analytical instrumentation technology has, fortunately, kept pace with the basic requirements of devices with lateral dimensions in the micron/ submicron range and depths of the order of nonometers. Often, newer analytical techniques have emerged or the more conventional techniques have been adapted to meet the more stringent requirements. As such, a variety of analytical techniques are available today to aid an analyst in the efforts of VLSI process evaluation. Generally such analytical efforts are divided into the characterization of materials, evaluation of processing steps and the analysis of failures.

The article deals with methodological aspects of the development of ecological culture of schoolchildren in a multicultural educational environment. The authors identify two acute problems in modern society – multiculturalism and ecology. The Russian Federation is a multicultural country. Multicultural education is aimed at preserving the diversity of Russian society, carries the potential and tool for protecting ethnic and national communities in a multi-ethnic Russia, promotes the integration of all territorial-economic, political and national-cultural communities into a single Russian nation, allows a person to adapt to a multicultural world, helps a person understand himself and the people around him and promote the social role of a cultural person in society. The authors consider the relationship between multiculturalism and ethnopedagogy, identify the main pedagogical approaches and principles of development of multicultural education. The article notes the importance of integration of two significant areas in education and in the world - ethnology and ecology. Together they make an ethno-cultural module and an eco-cultural module which form the values for the society sustainable development. The possibility of using the technology of project activity through the implementation of ethno-ecological projects of students is considered. The authors note that ethnoecological projects on the dominant activity of students can be of different directions: research, educational, creative or practical ones. The most effective way to work on projects is through the implementation of a system of eco-oriented multicultural project weeks. Authors pay an important attention to the projects aimed at studying the ethnoecological traditions of the native land, the peculiarities of its geography, climate, natural landscape, flora and fauna, reflected in folklore, folk crafts, cults, rituals, holidays, legends, myths, etc.

The article explains the key concept "multicultural education of future teachers of foreign languages". The essence and content of the notions "multiculturalism", "multicultural education" are clarified; the connection between them is established. The influence of these concepts on the process of professional training of future teachers of foreign languages is also revealed. The concept of culture is defined, namely the origin and history of ancient, medieval and modern times of the use of this concept. The relevance of teaching humanitarian disciplines in higher education institutions, especially a foreign language, is highlighted, which expands the language knowledge of students and gives them the opportunity to become full members of a multicultural environment. Also, synonymous terms for the concept of "polyculture" and the main goals of polycultural education are presented. So, we can state that the multiculturalism of the personality of future teachers of a foreign language consists in striving during intercultural communication with representatives of other languages; to understand a specific foreign language system of language and concepts of culture, their system of value-semantic guidelines, to integrate new experience into one's own system of language and concepts of culture, and also to analyze the system of one's own culture through cognition of a new culture, which leads to the formation of multicultural value guidelines.

In a globalised world, the school class is the mirror of a changing society. This research aims to identify the readiness of students of the specialty ‘Pre-school education’ in Belarus and students of the LM Science of Education in Italy to work in a multicultural environment. Comparative analysis of social land in Italy and Belarus, confrontation of curricula and higher education programmes from the standpoint of the tasks of forming linguistic, communicative, ethnocultural and multicultural competencies, and obtained results from the diagnostics of the culture of interethnic interaction allowed us to identify the possibilities of creative extrapolation of the existing positive experience in the national educational systems. The research materials can be used to improve the theory and practice of multicultural education, and the quality of preparation of pedagogical personnel of pre-school profile for work in a heterogeneous educational environment. Keywords: Intercultural education, multicultural competence.

The urban areas of many low-income countries must balance a rising demand for pit latrines for household sanitation provision against limitations in space, resulting in a need for pit latrine emptying services. This study was undertaken in the peri-urban neighborhood of Area 1B in the city of Mzuzu, Malawi, to examine the characteristics of household pit latrines for designing and selecting pit latrine emptying tools. We used 150 structured household surveys and field observations. From this, a subset was selected and 30 manual cone penetrometer tests were conducted at full latrines. Chemical oxygen demand analysis was also performed for 14 pit latrines. The results indicated that in addition to serving as a disposal for fecal matter, 90% of households also used pit latrines for domestic waste. Only 10% of the studied pit latrines were lined. The filling rate in the study area is calculated to be about three years, and no respondents reported previous emptying. It is suggested pit latrine emptying technology development focuses on a maximum tool diameter of 10 cm to fit through the keyhole (squat hole) and height of 146 cm to fit inside the superstructure, as well as supporting unlined pits and the ability to pump trash.

AbstractReservoir modelling tools can be invaluable for integrating knowledge and for supporting strategic oil field decisions. The pertinent issue is the capability of the modelling toolbox to achieve the required support: does modelling generate insights into the characterization of the subsurface, does it increase or decrease our working efficiency and does it help or hinder us in decision-making? In this respect, we see two directions emerging in reservoir modelling and simulation. One surrounds software technology development and a move towards a grid-independent world. This is a current research issue but some of the components required to complete a new workflow are already in place and tools for certain specific applications may not be far away. The other involves a change in approach to model design. This involves a move away from big, detailed ‘life-cycle’ models to more nimble workflows involving multi-models (either multi-scale or multi-concept) which may or not include full-field modelling exercises. A distinction between ‘resource models’ and ‘decision models’ helps crystallize this, is a positive step towards achieving ‘fit-for-purpose’ models, and is a change of model design strategy which can be achieved immediately.
