This article aims to discourse the perspectives of multiple transformations in the practice of developing performing art of kuda kepang at Turonggo Seto Mardi Utomo group in Boyolali, Central Java. The study of multiple transformations has long been evolving in design and architecture research, but the perspective is rarely encountered in performing arts research which on average still views transformation as a linear or multi-linear process of change. Multiple transformations describe a condition of change made by multiplying or doubling the shape of the kuda kepang art (by taking the same essence, core, or fibre of its structure) into various kinds. The multiplication shows a process of creative development that is triggered by two factors, namely the development of aesthetic and market needs. Keywords: kuda kepang; multiple transformations; traditions; creativity; markets

Over the years, the methods of preserving traditional performing arts have undergone a transformation in many states of Southeast Asia. In that, the performing art societies in Indonesia and Thailand have also made a shift in their conservation strategy from organizing the performing arts as a sacred rite with few participants to massive shows to entertain bigger audiences. This research intended to review the role of Maecenas (art protector) in enforcing the existence of Ramayanaperforming arts in three destinations in Indonesia and Thailand, namely Uluwatu’s Kecak Ramayana in Bali and Prambanan’s RamayanaBallet in Central Java, both located in Indonesia, and Khon Theater in Bangkok, Thailand. The research used a qualitative descriptive method with a functional theory approach. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and document review, following which they were analysed through interpretation. The result of the research showed that the aesthetical transformation of Ramayana performing arts in Indonesia and Thailand is determined by three factors, namely locality, time, and management. Keywords: performing arts, Ramayana, art protector, conservation

AbstractTraditional arts play a role in the characterization of a region. The Regency of Subang became the pioneer for inventing and creating some traditional arts. They were born and grew in the area, and their preservation and development are seriously taken into consideration. Focusing on a specific time period in Canadian performing art history--from the 1970s through to the late 1990s--this thesis "maps out" three artists' experiences in the landscape and the way these experiences are represented to an audience through performance. Using specific examples from the repertoire of Davida Monk, Paul Thompson, and R. Murray Schafer, I make a case for considering these performing artists as landscape researchers. I suggest that their performances explicitly and implicitly explore foundational questions about the meanings, uses, and affective power of landscape in ways that are analogous to the writings of cultural geographers during the same period. Like Yi-Fu Tuan, John Jakle, Denis Cosgrove and Jay Appleton, these performing artists examine the experience of humans in the landscape and focus on issues of place and space, homeland, and the meaning of landscape. Monk, Thompson and Schafer extend the perspectives of the geographers and bridge important gaps in their ways of knowing landscape.

ABSTRACT: Adequacy of primary school teachers is very important to support education for all. The objective of the research is to analyse and develop a plan for a public policy of teacher adequacy for state primary schools. This research used a descriptive-quantitative approach. Data collection was conducted by using observation and interview. There are six main findings in the research. One of the important things is that the model of planning policy for teacher adequacy based on class can be adopted by other local governments by incorporating two factors: total schools (S) and total classes (C), and using the formula of nC + 2S.  The planning policy model for teacher adequacy based on students can also be adopted by other local governments by incorporating the total students (S) and student ratio value to teacher (21:1) by using the formula of S/21.  Therefore, planners should conduct policy planning analysis for teacher adequacy of state primary schools in the local government by using two perspective analyses simultaneously to ensure teacher adequacy and manage effective and efficient distribution of teachers.KEY WORD: Teacher Adequacy; Policy Planning; Local Government; Effective and Efficient Distribution; Primary School. About the Author: Dr. Suroso is a Researcher at the Office of Research and Development, Pati Regency, Jalan Panglima Sudirman No.26 Pati, Central Java, Indonesia. In a discussion of three kinds of performing art—performance art, music, and theatre—this chapter explores three topics: (1) The performer’s moral responsibility to her- or himself. When this topic is broached in the criticism of an artwork, it is often because a performer has done something that raises the question of whether he or she should treat him- or herself in that way—often, but not always, in a way that involves bodily harm. (2) The ethical dimension of the relationship between performers. In cases of collaboration, the creation of such performances necessarily involves an interpersonal dynamic, which, in turn, has an essential ethical dimension. It also considers the additional complication of performances in which audience members contribute to the performance in a sufficiently robust way as to be regarded as co-performers or co-creators. (3) The ethical dimension established by the relationship between the performer(s) and the (non-interactive) audience, rather than performers and other performers.

Abstract  In the discourse of performing art creations, there is an assumption that creating art works is not categorized as a scientific, based on a personal taste and instinctive. This article uses a qualitative research with the performing arts approach. By using ethnographic methods, this article focuses on the role of performers in the process of creating the performing arts. Data are collected through interviews, library research, and document studies. As an object of study, 5 (five) outstanding works will be discussed, namely: Terompong Beruk (1982), Bali Agung (2010), Ratricetana (2011), Terompong Beruk Bangkok (2015), and Stri Wiroda (2015). The results of this study indicate that the models of creative as parts of important processes in creating performances are diverse. Through researching creative processes of the works, performers can create new type of works that are different from others, and distinctive from previous works. The novelty of the creative processes contains the quality of aestethic in forms and contents, as well as their values and functions. Keywords: research, creative processes, new creations, performing arts.
