In the mineral processing industry, tumbling mills are used in the size reduction or comminution of ore to a target size distribution. As the tumbling mill environment is quite violent it is difficult to monitor mill charge motion. One way is to develop an “on-the-shell” acoustic system. This system will be used in the determination of the charge toe angle of an operating tumbling mill. The instrument, microphone system with the appropriate data acquisition system, collects the acoustic data. An analysis of the signal determines the location of the toe. The results of this development along with some trial data are presented.

As the tumbling mill environment is quite violent it is difficult to monitor mill charge motion let alone single ball or particle motion. An effort was initiated to investigate the development of an instrumented ball that includes data collection capabilities. A variety of sensors, including accelerometers and gyros, form the instrument package. The data collected by the instruments allow the calculation of a number of dynamic and kinematic quantities as a function of time. Using instrumented ball data, the error model of the instrument can be found. Finally, the importance of the data with respect to ball mills is discussed along with the relationship between the instrumented ball data and charge motion simulation results is discussed.

Tumbling mills are often taken as the object of optimization studies because they are a type of equipment that consume large amounts of energy. Among the current available resources to conduct such studies, mathematic modelling presents great efficiency due to its low cost, speed and reliability. The total charge and grinding media charge are very important variables to conduct modelling exercises that aim at power draw and product size distribution forecasting. However, the common measurement methods require people entering the equipment, which carries a number of adversities related to confined spaces. In this regard, this paper presents the development of a method and the prototype of a device able to measure tumbling mill charges, quickly, precisely, with low cost and, above all, ensuring safety. The result of this work is a method that allows equivalent or superior precision in comparison to the existing methods, whose main aspect is to eliminate the requirement of people entering dangerous environments, such as tumbling mills.

Turbocharged gas engines for combined heat and power units are optimized to increase efficiency while observing and maintaining legitimate exhaust gas emissions. In order to do so, the charge motion is raised. This study investigates the influence of passive prechamber spark plugs in high turbulent combustion chambers. The subjects of investigation are two different gas engine types, one of them running on sewage gas the other one on biogas. The occurring charge motions initiated by the cylinder heads are measured by integrative determination of swirl motion on a flow bench. In addition, three different passive prechamber spark plugs are characterized by a combustion analysis. Each of the three spark plugs comes with a different electrode or prechamber geometry. The resulting combustion and operating conditions are compared while the equal brake mean effective pressure and constant NOx-emissions are sustained. The results of the combustion analysis show a rising influence of the spark plug with increasing air-to-fuel-ratio induced by charge motion. Furthermore, clear differences between the spark plugs are determined: electrode arrangement and prechamber geometry help to influence lean misfire limits, engine smoothness, start behavior and ignition delay. The results indicate the capability of spark plugs to increase lifetime and engine efficiency.

The computer-interfaced system for second-order chemical kinetic studies was applied to the determination of the rate constant of the saponification of ethyl acetate at 35°C. For this specific problem, an averaging treatment was used which can be called an interval method. The use of this method avoids the diffcully of measuring the starting time of the reaction. Two groups of experimental data and results were used to evaluate the systems performance. All of the results obtained are in agreement with the reference value.

Bandung regency known to have had to scatter material which be potential sources of revenue of them are material andesit mining sand and also .Research objectives is measuring the estimation of the distance the throw rocks due to maximum blasting , restudying in the determination of a radius of secure at blasting activities by counting the radius of safe to an instrument based on a theory that is compared with actual that had broken out and get constant k in signification fly rock according to alan b.richards and adrian j.moore to adjust to those of the rocks and stemming used .The research was done by counting the throw of maximum rock theoretically menutut alan b .Ricahrds and adrian j .Moore coupled with the observation actual fly rock in the field with the observation use video and the naked eye .Trial done by moving a radius of safe instrument less than 300 m. From the trial data, it is obtained that the maximum throw of the actual rock and the prediction with the theoretical calculation is in accordance with the recommendation of Adrian J. Moore and Alan B. Richard, so the radius to secure the tool is at least 2 times that of the actual throw. With the provision of using stemming, the safe radius for blasting is reduced to 200 m.

An acquisition and analysis system for indicator diagram (ID) of piston engine is developed for monitoring the cylinder pressure in engine development. The hardware component of the data acquisition system is introduced. The method of the determination of the TDC, the method of filtering the interference signal of ID and the method of implementation with Visual C++ are presented. The system can provide ID online through the experiment on Honda 125 engine. It can directly and conveniently display the information about combustion. Therefore it has a high potential value in engineering applications.
