The article considers the issues of continuity in foreign language teaching in the process of continuing professional education in the system «school» – «university». The essence of continuity as a didactic principle is clarified and its components have been determined. The task of continuity in the content of teaching a foreign (English) language to students of non-language specialties of universities and the factors that complicate its implementation are outlined. The importance of adhering to this principle for optimizing the educational process at all levels and stages of learning is emphasized. The importance of adhering to the principle of continuity in the transition from school to university education system is emphasized. It is shown that continuity in foreign language learning covers all components of the learning process and is complex. Some technologies for ensuring the continuity of foreign language learning are proposed, which helps to improve the quality of language training for future professionals. The authors state that the concept of continuity is actively used in the national educational space as a designation of one of the prerequisites for optimizing the study of English at the stage of transition from the school stage to the system of higher education. The essence of continuity as a pedagogical principle is that at each higher stage of education in determining the content of education takes into account everything that was learned at earlier stages. It is stated that one of the technologies to ensure the implementation of the principle of continuity directly in the educational process is the use of a leveling course, the possibilities of which to improve the knowledge of freshmen and eliminate the possible gap between the starting level of English and the requirements of the university program were demonstrated.

Modern educational process is getting more and more interactive which presupposes the employment of brand new textbooks and the most difficult to be written are manuals for studying foreign languages. Over the past decades interest in learning languages in Russia might be justified by globalization (the consequence of which is the phenomenon of interactivity) that results in developing new demands to foreign language textbooks among which the primary ones are to be communicative, situational, problemsolving, and (relatively) easy to obtain the form and content of a foreign language. More complex demands to a manual in general and to a foreign language textbook in particular consider it to be the product of conceptual system, the method of achieving educational goals, and the control lever of managing the learning process. Meanwhile, as the monitoring of the modern instructional materials demonstrates there is an obvious deficit of foreign language textbooks and manuals that could completely satisfy the demands declared and – which is even more important – could stimulate the development of the meaningful attitude to the study of a foreign language. This gives us reason to consider the topic chosen for the paper to be an issue of concern and urgency. Without criticizing or questioning the authoritative opinions over the quality of the current foreign language textbooks the author makes an attempt to define the essence of a textbook, to revise the demands to it and to describe the potential challenges of its writing.

The article discusses the issues of methods of teaching a foreign language using digital technologies, taking into account their development in the Rostov region on the basis of the Don State Technical University. Attention is focused on the creation of information and educational environment at the university and the features of such an important didactic property of digital learning as interactivity. The types of interactivity, their differentiation, functioning, and interaction in the educational process are considered in detail. The authors observe such directions of digital education as blended learning, distance learning, and mass public on-line courses. To create a digital medium, the university organized a digital portal SKIF. The authors describe this portal and its opportunities for distance teaching. The advantages of digital education in comparison with traditional ones are noted, and the problems of transition from reproductive to creative-problematic type of teaching a foreign language are considered. For a long time, the study of the brain capabilities for the improvement of the quality of education has been an urgent direction in pedagogical science. Due to the development of digitalization, new areas of research have emerged related to the use of special equipment that makes it possible to assess and control brainwork, develop mental abilities, cognitive functions, etc. One of them is neurotechnology, which is an effective means of transforming the educational process: it offers educational content based on the individual characteristics of students. Thus, a need to concretize the terminology and determine the current research areas arises. The article aims to attempt to fill this gap with the help of a representative analysis of publications on neurotechnologies, as well as the essence of neuroeducation.

The issue of adaptation of modern first-year students to the educational process at the university is one of the current pedagogical tasks. Successful adaptation significantly affects the quality of received education, the degree of formation of personal and professional qualities, contributes to the development of motivation, self-education, and self-development. The purpose of the research is to substantiate the criteria, indicators, and levels of adaptation of first-year students to the learning process at the university. The material for the study was the domestic scientific sources of studying the peculiarities of the adaptation process of students to educational activities in higher education. Research methods: analysis and generalization of psychological-pedagogical and educational-methodical literature on the research topic. We determine as the main criteria for the adaptation of first-year students to the university, the adaptive potential and professionally important qualities of students, consider these concepts, their structure, and their basic properties. On the basis of the analysis and generalization of the existing indicators of the implementation of the adaptive potential, we formulate the author's indicators for determining the level of its development. The degree of formation of professionally important qualities of students are low, medium, and high levels of development of emotional intelligence, negative communicative attitude, intellectual lability, and stress tolerance.

The constant supply of broccoli heads for a vegetable market can be kept by the differentiation of sowing time and the age of seedlings. Dark-chilling of young seedlings can also modify the time of transplanting, subsequent plant development, yield and inflorescence quality. The aim of the present study was to analyze the influence of seedling dark-chilling on the inflorescence initiation and the morphological quality of broccoli heads. The experiment was carried out at the University of Agriculture in Krakow (South Poland) in the years 2009 and 2010, with broccoli (Brassica oleracea L. var. italica Plenck) medium late cultivar ‘Monaco’ F1. The examined factors were the age of seedlings (4-, 6-, 8-, and 10-week-old) and dark-chilling (2°C/2 weeks and non-chilled control). Microscopic analysis of the apex sections was performed to determine the time of the inflorescence differentiation in chilled and non-chilled seedlings of different age. Chosen morphological features of the mature heads were also described as depended on age and chilling of seedlings. The inflorescence initiation was observed between 4 and 6 week of the plant ontogeny. Especially 4-week-old seedlings, chilled by two weeks, were more advanced in the generative development in comparison to non-chilled control. Low temperature applied in the seedling stage did not cause the head buttoning. Inflorescences developed by broccoli planted from 4 and 6-week-old seedlings, both chilled and control, were characterized by the best visual quality, determined by a convex head shape, tight branching angle, small and uniform size and regular form of flower buds. Chilling of oldest, 8- and 10-week-old seedlings negatively affected the inflorescence quality, through planed and spread shape of heads and non-uniform shape of flower buds.
