In this work, we present a method to describe the model of a goniophotometer for uncertainty analysis by state-of-the-art Universal Robotic Description Format (URDF). The parameters of the kinematic chain model are determined by measurements of the geometric properties of the goniophotometer. The uncertainties of the pose are determined using Monte Carlo (MC) simulations of the kinematic chain. The measured geometric uncertainties are input the MC simulations. The proposed framework enables high level description of kinematic chains for MC simulations of measurement systems. Furthermore, the uncertainty of the total system is demonstrated over the MC trials to prove a sufficient amount of MC trials. The results of this generic approach are evaluated against an existing model and the uncertainty determination of the same goniophotometer.

AbstractThe cyclic hoist scheduling problem (CHSP) is a well-studied optimisation problem due to its importance in industry. Despite the wide range of solving techniques applied to the CHSP and its variants, the models have remained complicated and inflexible, or have failed to scale up with larger problem instances. This article re-examines modelling of the CHSP and proposes a new simple, flexible constraint programming formulation. We compare current state-of-the-art solving technologies on this formulation, and show that modelling in a high-level constraint language, MiniZinc, leads to both a simple, generic model and to computational results that outperform the state of the art. We further demonstrate that combining integer programming and lazy clause generation, using the multiple cores of modern processors, has potential to improve over either solving approach alone.

The robot studied in the paper has a 3DOF parallel structure of type 1PRRR+2PRPaR, with two coupled motions and one decoupled motion, composed by a mobile platform connected to the fixed base by three kinematic chains (one open kinematic chain of Prismatic Revolute Revolute Revolute type and two kinematic chains of Prismatic Revolute Parallelogram Revolute type). An analytical kinematic modelling of the parallel robot of type 1PRRR+2PRPaR is firstly presented in this paper, followed by a numerical simulation of the closed-form kinematic model and by a Virtual Reality (VR) application with control aspects. An innovative user interface for high-level control of the parallel 1PRRR+2PRPaR type robot is developed in MATLAB - Simulink and SimMechanics environment.

In a kinematic chain, the links are connected to each other through joints. The connectivity of a joint indicates the number of joints to which it is connected. The connectivity level of a joint indicates the distance by which it is separated from the adjacent joints. The concept of joint connectivity and its application to detect isomorphism among kinematic chains and their inversions has been already reported by authors. The method utilizes the connectivity of joints at different levels to detect isomorphism and inversions among planar kinematic chains. The method is applied to eight-, nine-, and ten-link planar kinematic chains. The results so obtained are in agreement with those available in the literature. In this study, the method is further improved by incorporating the type of joint to make it more effective for the detection of isomorphism and distinct inversions. A joint connectivity table completely representing the kinematic chain is proposed. The application of the method is extended for the determination of additional topological characteristics of chains such as categorization of kinematic chains and selection of preferred frame, input and output links for function and path generation. The concept of ‘Motion Transfer Ability’ is introduced and utilized to develop numerical measures for comparing and categorizing the chains at the synthesis stage of mechanism design for a specific application. The method was successfully tested on planar kinematic chains with single and multiple degrees of freedom and the results for eight- and nine-link kinematic chains are appended.

A spring-restrained, multiple-loop, multiple-degree-of-freedom kinematic chain will normally have one or more stable equilibrium configurations when steady external loads are applied to it. The “kinematic equivalent” of a vehicle and its suspension linkages is a common example of such a system. Changes in external loading due to cornering, braking, and so on, can produce important changes in the equilibrium configuration of the suspension. This paper presents a general method for determining the equilibrium configurations of spring-restrained, kinematic chains under the action of steady external loading. The iterative (4 × 4) matrix method of displacement analysis, previously developed for single-loop chains, is extended to complex chains and is used to determine the displacement and velocity information required for equilibrium analyses. The final results are general computer programs which will determine displacement and/or equilibrium configurations for simple or complex mechanism systems wherein the applied force systems may be considered conservative.

Determining the roughness of technical surfaces is an important task in many engineering disciplines. In civil engineering, for instance, the repair and reinforcement of building component parts (such as concrete structures) requires a certain surface roughness in order to ensure the bond between a coating material and base concrete. The sand patch method is so far the state-of-the-art for the roughness measurement of concrete structures. Although the method is easy to perform, it suffers from considerable drawbacks. Consequently, more sophisticated measurement systems are required. In a research project, we developed a novel camera-based alternative, which comes with several advantages. The measurement system consists of a mechanical cross slide that guides an industrial camera over a surface to be measured. Images taken by the camera are used for 3D reconstruction. Finally, the reconstructed point clouds are used to estimate roughness. In this article, we present our measurement system (including the hardware and the self-developed software for 3D reconstruction). We further provide experiments to camera calibration and evaluation of our system on concrete specimens. The resulting roughness estimates for the concrete specimens show a strong linear correlation to reference values obtained by the sand patch method.

Relevance. Rehabilitation of patients with moderate to severe generalized periodontitis is a leading problem in periodontology. It was the determination of the prospects for immediate implantation in patients with chronic periodontitis, combined with the pathology of the tooth root and maxillary sinus.Materials and methods. A group of 94 people with periodontitis and chronic odontogenic rhinosinus was observed who underwent sinus surgical treatment, tooth extraction and one-stage implantation with FRP growth factor according to the author's technology.Results. The method showed high efciency on the basis of assessing the clinical, aesthetic result and restoration of bone density after surgery.Conclusions. The developed technology is a promising direction, it allows to combine a high level of sanation of alveolar tissue with the advantages of immediate implantation, prevents bone atrophy, helps reduce the duration of treatment and the number of surgical and orthopedic interventions.

The set of scientific-methodological tools to secure the mechanism of economic safety management of tourism entrepreneurship is examined as an aggregate of methods, tools, and conceptual activities directed at maintaining the high level of economic safety of tourism entrepreneurship. The features of managing the tourism enterprise and economic safety are analyzed. The basic valuation principles of the reliability and efficiency of the economic safety of the tourism enterprise are determined. The basic tasks of ensuring the economic safety of a small enterprise are outlined. The need to use the integrated approach that secures more opportunities to avoid threats and limits the danger of their emergence is emphasized. The most important principles for securing the economic safety of the tourism enterprise on the microeconomic level are described. Possible practical methods of risk management for the implementation of adopted decisions are proposed. The paper proves the fact that the complex nature of the management of the economic safety of the tourism enterprise and securing the sufficiently efficient management system of detecting and eliminating the threats are provided by the establishment of the management of the economic safety system of the tourism enterprise and its functional components. Research of the methodical approaches to the management of the tourism enterprises’ economic safety allows building and describing the functional structure of the mechanism of management of the tourist enterprise’s economic safety (it is formalized and described by 5 functions: determination of aims; planning; organization and adjusting; motivation and stimulation; control and monitoring).

Lipreading aims to recognize sentences being spoken by a talking face. In recent years, the lipreading method has achieved a high level of accuracy on large datasets and made breakthrough progress. However, lipreading is still far from being solved, and existing methods tend to have high error rates on the wild data and have the defects of disappearing training gradient and slow convergence. To overcome these problems, we proposed an efficient end-to-end sentence-level lipreading model, using an encoder based on a 3D convolutional network, ResNet50, Temporal Convolutional Network (TCN), and a CTC objective function as the decoder. More importantly, the proposed architecture incorporates TCN as a feature learner to decode feature. It can partly eliminate the defects of RNN (LSTM, GRU) gradient disappearance and insufficient performance, and this yields notable performance improvement as well as faster convergence. Experiments show that the training and convergence speed are 50% faster than the state-of-the-art method, and improved accuracy by 2.4% on the GRID dataset.

We show that the degree of oxidation of graphene oxide (GO) can be obtained by using a combination of state-of-the-art ab initio computational modeling and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS). We show that the shift of the XPS C1s peak relative to pristine graphene, ΔEC1s, can be described with high accuracy by ΔEC1s=A(cO−cl)2+E0, where c0 is the oxygen concentration, A=52.3 eV, cl=0.122, and E0=1.22 eV. Our results demonstrate a precise determination of the oxygen content of GO samples.

Selenoprotein P (SELENOP) is an emerging marker of the nutritional status of selenium and of various diseases, however, its chemical characteristics still need to be investigated and methods for its accurate quantitation improved. SELENOP is unique among selenoproteins, as it contains multiple genetically encoded SeCys residues, whereas all the other characterized selenoproteins contain just one. SELENOP occurs in the form of multiple isoforms, truncated species and post-translationally modified variants which are relatively poorly characterized. The accurate quantification of SELENOP is contingent on the availability of specific primary standards and reference methods. Before recombinant SELENOP becomes available to be used as a primary standard, careful investigation of the characteristics of the SELENOP measured by electrospray MS and strict control of the recoveries at the various steps of the analytical procedures are strongly recommended. This review critically discusses the state-of-the-art of analytical approaches to the characterization and quantification of SELENOP. While immunoassays remain the standard for the determination of human and animal health status, because of their speed and simplicity, mass spectrometry techniques offer many attractive and complementary features that are highlighted and critically evaluated.
