Study on diversity of aquatic insects in rice is important to determine the condition of the rice fields. The purpose of this research was to study the community of aquatic insects in two difference cultivations (organic and conventional) and sub districts (Koto Tangah dan Pauh) in Padang City. Purposive random sampling method was used. Samples were collected by using water insect nets and water bottle traps. The results showed that the aquatic insects found in the study site consisted of 5 orders (Coleoptera, Diptera, Ephemeroptera, Hemiptera, Odonata), 16 families, 51 species and 3808 individuals. Aquatic insect populations in organic farming was higher (5 orders, 15 families, 48 species and 3089 individuals) than conventional (4 orders, 9 families, 20 species and 719 individuals). Aquatic insects found were acting as predators (3718 individuals), detrivors (7 individuals), and omnivors (83 individuals). The diversity indexes of aquatic insects on two locations were classified as medium but the diversity in organic cultivation was higher than conventional.

ABSTRACT   Aquatic insects are one of the organisms that are used in determining water contamination. Aquatic insects are sensitive to the presence of waste dumped in the river and some are resistant to such waste. One of insect resistant waste is Chironomidae. The research objective was to determine aquatic insect species, population abundance by calculating indices diversity and biotic index. Aquatic insects in the lake watershed Tondano were collected by kicks and Hand Picking. Result showed that seven orders, theerteen families and sixteen species had been identified. The number of highest aquatic insect was found in Noogan which were 13 species, whereas in karondoran were 9 species. Aquatic insects were identified including, Heptagenia sp, sp Baetis sp, Caenis sp., Hydropsyhe, sp and Chrironomidae. The highest aquatic insect populations were collected in Karondoran followed by Winebetan and Noogan. The highest diversity index of aquatic insects was found in Winebetan whereas the lowest was in Karondoran. The lowest value of the biotic index was identified in the region Noogan suggested that water in Noogan area was clean water compared to Winebetan and Karondoran. Abstract:  Aquatic insects are groups of insects that most of their life in the water body. Aquatic insects are part of macrozoobenthos. Aquatic insects are very important roles in the ecological system due to various reasons. Insects are bio-indicators of water in water bodies such as rivers. The aims of the study were to determine the diversity and the potential roles of aquatic insects in the Kali Batu Anyar ecosystem. The research method used purposive random sampling method. The sampling of the data was conducted by Surber nets. The samples obtained were identified and analyzed using the Shannon-Wiener index. The result consist of 6 Orders, 10 Families and 4 Genus were founded. According to the Shannon-Wiener diversity index of (H'), the diversity of aquatic insects in the upper Kali Batu Anyar was higher than the bottom part of the river with value of H’ was 3,6. By using SIGNAL 2 grade, Order Ephemeroptera, Trichoptera and Coleoptera were grouped to be very sensitive and a sensitive insect therefore those can be used as indicator for water quality. It can be concluded that Kali Batu Anyar was in good water conditions.Abstrak: Serangga air merupakan kelompok serangga yang sebagian hidupnya berada di badan air. Serangga air termasuk dalam makrozoobentos. Serangga air sangat penting dalam sistem ekologi karena berbagai alasan. Serangga air adalah bioindikator dalam badan air seperti sungai. Tujuan Penelitian ini untuk mengetahui keanekaragaman dan potensi peranan serangga air di ekosistem. Peneltian menggunakan metode Purposive Random Sampling. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan jaring Surber. Sampel yang diperoleh diidentifikasi dan dianalisis menggunakan indeks Shanon Wiener. Serangga air yang diperoleh di kelompokan pada 6 Ordo terbagi dari 10 Famili dan 4 Genus. Indeks keanekaragaman Shanon-Wiener H’ : 3,6 menunjukan keanekaragaman serangga air yang tinggi di hulu kali Batu Anyar tinggi. Berdasarkan SIGNAL 2 grade, serangga air anggota Ordo Ephemeroptera, Trichoptera dan Coleoptera yang ditemukan bersifat sangat sensitif dan sensitif dapat digunakan sebagai indikator kualitas air. Kali Batu Anyar dalam kondisi perairan yang baik.

Serangga air merupakan kelompok Arthropoda yang dapat dijumpai hampir pada jenis perairan misalnya pada habitat lentik atau lotik. Seranggan air dalam suatu ekosistem berperan penting dalam rantai makanan selain itu juga serangga air dapat dijadikan sebagai bioindikator terhadap penentuan kualitas suatu perairan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kelimpahan serangga air yang terdapat di Sungai Toraut. Lokai penelitian terletak pada Sub DAS dari DAS Dumoga Kabupaten Bolaang Mongondow, Sulawesi Utara. Sungai ini memiliki luas sekitar 249 km2 dan hulunya terletak di Taman Nasional Bogani Nani Wartabone (TNBNW). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Purposive Random Sampling dengan menggunakan alat surber sampler. Total individu yang didapatkan dari 3 stasiun sebanyak 1497 individu dengan jumlah famili sebanyak 24 yang terdiri dari 27 spesies. Spesies serangga air yang paling banyak ditemukan pada stasiun satu, sedangkan yang sedikit pada stasiun 3. Kelimpahan spesies yang paling banyak ditemukan adalah Hydropsyche sp.Arthropods is a group of aquatic insects that can be found in almost all types of aquatic habitats for example lentic or lotic habitat. In the field of ecology, aquatic insects plays a role in the food chain, moreover the aquatic insects can be used as bioindicator to determine the quality of water. This study aims to analyze the abundance of aquatic insects found in the Toraut River. This study lies in the sub-watershed from the watershed of Dumoga Bolaang Mongondow, North Sulawesi. This river has an area of ​​approximately 249 km2 and its located in the headwaters of Bogani Nani Wartabone  National Park. The method used in this study is purposive random sampling method by using a sampler surber. Total individuals were obtained from 3 stations are 1497 individuals with total 24 families consisting of 27 species. The most commonly species of aquatic insects found at station 1, whereas slightly at station 3. The most commonly species of aquatic insects found is Hydropsyche sp.

This research aims at analyzing how to further young farmers' motivation and participation and the impact of influencing factors of relevance. Prominent among the goals of this research is to enhance youth psychological characteristics so as to arrange the best strategy to promote horticultural organic farming. Eighty young farmers were selected by means of simple random sampling method. Path analysis was employed to decide the fit model. It was found that agricultural extension workers changed young farmers' motivations and that they had an impact on participation by enhancing perception. The role of agricultural extension workers should be improved; and they should help control the communication between local leaders and farmers. Hopefully, this research can be used as the basis of agricultural policy in developing countries.

Abstract. Wakhid, Rauf A, Krisanti M, Sumertajaya IM, Maryana N. 2020. Species richness and diversity of aquatic insects inhabiting rice fields in Bogor, West Java, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 21: 34-42. Rice fields occupy the largest cultivated area in agricultural landscape in Indonesia and support a variety of living organisms, including aquatic insects. This study was conducted with the objective to determine the species richness and diversity of aquatic insects inhabiting rice fields. Sampling was made in March, May, and July 2017 in rice fields at Situgede, Pandansari, and Kawungluwuk (Bogor region, West Java, Indonesia), and carried out by dragging dip net on the bottom along the edge of the rice plots. A total of 3,306 individuals representing 45 species of aquatic insects belonging to 30 genera, 20 families, and seven orders were recorded. Order Hemiptera was the most abundance comprising 28.89% of the total insects collected, followed by Diptera (24.80%), Coleoptera (24.41%), and Odonata (21.42%). Functional feeding group analysis showed that collectors-gatherers had the highest proportion (40 - 46%), followed by predators (23-44%) and scrapers (10-35%). Rank-abundance curve showed low species evenness with the four most abundant species were Micronecta siva (Kirkaldy) (Hemiptera: Micronectidae), Chironomus sp. (Diptera: Chironomidae), Orthetrum sabina (Drury) (Odonata: Libellulidae), and Helochares sp. (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae). The Shannon-Wiener index showed the lowest value (H’=1.84) at Situgede and the highest (H’=2.05) at Pandansari. Richness estimate and individual-based rarefaction curve revealed that rice fields at Pandansari have more species richness than the other two sites. This study provides some insights into the aquatic insect community of the human-made ecosystem and suggests that the ecological approach to pest management is necessary for maintaining ecosystem health and promoting biodiversity.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis dan keanekaragaman jenis-jenis capung (odonata) di  kawasan sawah Kec. Pangkalan jambu dan Kec. Tabir  Kabupaten Merangin. Pengambilan sampel capung dilakukan di Kecamatan Pangkalan Jambu (Desa Bungo Tanjung dan Tanjung Mudo) dan Kecamatan Tabir (Desa Seling  dan Desa Kampung Baru) Kabupaten Merangin. Identifikasi capung dilakukan di Laboratorium Universitas Muara Bungo. Penelitian ini dimulai dari tanggal 03 Februari 2019 sampai dengan tanggal 30 April 2019.Penelitian ini berbentuk survei dan metode pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah Purposive Random Sampling. Pada tiap kecamatan  dipilih dua desa sebagai tempat pengamatan. Pada tiap petak pertanaman ditentukan  petak sampel yang berukuran 5 x 5 m secara sistematis pada garis diagonal. Pengambilan sampel Capung di lapangan dilakukan sebanyak 6 kali dengan interval pengambilan sampel dua minggu sekali yang dilakukan dengan dua metode yaitu koleksi secara langsung yaitu menangkap dengan tangan setiap Capung  yang ditemukan pada petak sampel dan Metode jaring ayun. Adapun Variabel yang diamati adalah Identifikasi capung, Indeks Keanekaragaman,  Indeks Kemerataan Spesies dan Kekayaan Spesies.Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa jenis-jenis capung (odonata) pada aeral persawahan di Kecamatan Pangkalan Jambu adalah 12 spesies dan 10 spesies di Kecamatan Tabir dengan rincian 8 spesies yang sama yaitu Crocodemis servilia, Orthetrum chrysis, Orthetrum testaceum, Orthetrum pruinosum, Orthetrum sabina, Diplacodes travilis, Agriocenemis femina, Agriocenemis pygmea, dan 6 spesies yang berbeda Pseudagrio pruinosum, Coriagrio colamineum, Orthetrum glaucum, Potamarcha congener, Libellago lineata dan Copera marginipes. Keanekaragaman jenis-jenis capung (odonata) yang ada di kawasan sawah Kecamatan Pangkalan jambu dan kecamatan Tabir Kabupaten Merangin berada pada tingkat sedang dengan indeks keanekaragaman sebesar 2,03 – 2,15, tingkat kemerataan yang stabil dengan indeks kemerataan 0,86-0,88 serta areal persawahan di kecamatan Pangkalan Jambu memiliki kekayan spesies yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan kawasan sawah kec. Tabir. Kata Kunci :Keanekaragaman, Spesies Capung, Areal Persawahan This study aimed to determine types and diversity of dragonflies species (odonata) in Pangkalan Jambu District and Tabir District Merangin Regency. The sampling of dragonflies was carried out in Pangkalan Jambu District (Bungo Tanjung Village and Tanjung Mudo village) and Tabir District (Sling Village and kampung baruh Village) Merangin Regency. Identification of dragonflies was carried out at the Muara Bungo University Laboratory. This study began from February, 3th to April, 30th 2019.This research takes the form of a survey and kind of the sampling method is Purposive Random Sampling. In each district two villages were chosen as observation sites. In each planting plot, a sample plot of 5 x 5 m was determined systematically on a diagonal line. Dragonfly sampling in the field was carried out as much as 6 times with biweekly sampling intervals which were carried out by two methods, namely direct collection, with catching by hand every dragonfly found in the sample plot and swinging method. The variables observed were dragonfly identification, diversity index, species evenness and species richness index.The results showed that the types of dragonflies (odonata) in rice fields in Pangkalan Jambu district were 12 species and 10 species in Tabir district with details of the same 8 species namely Crocodemis servilia, Orthetrum chrysis, Orthetrum testaceum, Orthetrum pruinosum, Orthetrum sabina, Diplacodes travilis, Agriocenemis femina, Agriocenemis pygmea, and 6 different species of Pseudagrio pruinosum, Coriagrio colamineum, Orthetrum glaucum, Potamarcha congener, Libellago lineata and Copera marginipes. The diversity of dragonfly species (odonata) in the paddy field of Pangkalan jambu district and Tabir district of Merangin Regency is at a moderate level with a diversity index of  2.03 - 2.15, a stable level of evenness with an evenness index of 0.86-0, 88 and rice fields in the Pangkalan Jambu district have higher species richness compared to the rice field area. Keywords: Diversity, Dragonflies, Rice Fields

There is an ongoing unprecedented loss in insects, both in terms of richness and biomass. The usage of pesticides, especially neonicotinoid insecticides, has been widely suggested to be a contributor to this decline. However, the risks of neonicotinoids to natural insect populations have remained largely unknown due to a lack of field-realistic experiments. Here, we used an outdoor experiment to determine effects of field-realistic concentrations of the commonly applied neonicotinoid thiacloprid on the emergence of naturally assembled aquatic insect populations. Following application, all major orders of emerging aquatic insects (Coleoptera, Diptera, Ephemeroptera, Odonata, and Trichoptera) declined strongly in both abundance and biomass. At the highest concentration (10 µg/L), emergence of most orders was nearly absent. Diversity of the most species-rich family, Chironomidae, decreased by 50% at more commonly observed concentrations (1 µg/L) and was generally reduced to a single species at the highest concentration. Our experimental findings thereby showcase a causal link of neonicotinoids and the ongoing insect decline. Given the urgency of the insect decline, our results highlight the need to reconsider the mass usage of neonicotinoids to preserve freshwater insects as well as the life and services depending on them.

The study of insect populations is dominated by research on terrestrial insects. Are aquatic insect populations different or are they just presumed to be different? We explore the evidence across several topics. (1) Populations of terrestrial herbivorous insects are constrained most often by enemies, whereas aquatic herbivorous insects are constrained more by food supplies, a real difference related to the different plants that dominate in each ecosystem. (2) Population outbreaks are presumed not to occur in aquatic insects. We report three examples of cyclical patterns; there may be more. (3) Aquatic insects, like terrestrial insects, show strong oviposition site selection even though they oviposit on surfaces that are not necessarily food for their larvae. A novel outcome is that density of oviposition habitat can determine larval densities. (4) Aquatic habitats are often largely 1-dimensional shapes and this is presumed to influence dispersal. In rivers, drift by insects is presumed to create downstream dispersal that has to be countered by upstream flight by adults. This idea has persisted for decades but supporting evidence is scarce. Few researchers are currently working on the dynamics of aquatic insect populations; there is scope for many more studies and potentially enlightening contrasts with terrestrial insects.

This study aims to see the abundance of species and populations of insects found in water hyacinth vegetation in Tondano Lake.  This research was conducted at Entomology and Phytopathology Laboratory of Agriculture Faculty at Sam Ratulangi University in Manado and on the coast of Tondano Lake. This study was conducted for 3 months. The research method used purposive sampling method or intentional intake at 5 point location of hyacinth vegetation in Tondano Lake. Determination of Research Location is based on the amount of area that has been covered by water hyacinth on the coast of Tondano. On each location has been determined and then made a plot of sampling area of 10 x 10 m. The results showed that the types of insects found in the hyacinth vegetation in Tondano Lake were from family: Culicidae, Muscidae, Phoridae, Sepsidae, Drosopilidae, Apdididae, Anthomyidae, Carabidae, Dolichopodidae, Braconidae, Stratiomiidae, Ichneumonidae, Cecidomidae, Bombylidae and Sphingidae. Insect populations fluctuate in each observation. The existence of insects found in hyacinth vegetation in Tondano Lake is generally caused by the close distance between water hyacinth with rice fields and plantations and the existence of decaying vegetation that can be a good habitat for these breeding insects, in addition there are also enemies naturally found due to its activities in the search for prey.
