<p>The purpose of this study was to determine how the structure, conduct and performance of the construction industry in Indonesia. And to know how much influence the structure, conduct and performance of the construction industry in Indonesia. Analytical techniques used in this research is to use the Concentration Ratio (CR4) and the Herfindahl-Hirchman index (IHH), which which took the example of 8 Indonesian construction companies wich were tested whithin a period 2007-2011. The results showed the level of concentration ratio (CR4) ranged from 73,02% to 76,16%, then the figure shows the structure of the constraction industry period 2007- 2011 is an oligopoly tight. While based on the Herfindahl-Hirschman index, is the range from 0,159695275 to 0,169852, which means the structure of the construction industry in Indonesia is not a monopoly or not structured approaches 1, when viewed from the level of concentration between the years 2007-2011, it can be concluded that the level of competition in the construction industry in Indonesia is very competitive. it is characterized by the competition of market share among the four dominant companies in the Indonesian construction industry in terms of revenue<br />Keywords: Oligopoly, CR4, IHH, Structure, Conduct and Performance.</p>

This paper studies the performance of 118 major Korean construction companies between 1997 and 2003 to verify empirically the existence of a direct relationship between innovations of firms and their performance. This time period was selected because there had been a radical change in the market leadership of the construction industry due to the Asian Financial Crisis of the late 1990s. The AMOS analysis and the research demonstrated that innovation of a firm has an indirect relationship with its performance through mediating variables — firm product and process fits. While innovations of a firm are contingent to the external factors, product fit and process fit have direct impact on firm performance, suggesting that the product fit and the process fit are two significant indicators of the success or failure of a firm.

The importance of performance based benchmarking has become a necessity in a modern construction company and presents a constant challenge for the construction industry. The aim of this paper is to elaborate significance, role and types of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) in the construction industry and show how different management perspectives perceive the indicators. A literature review was carried out in order to generate a listing of KPIs, used among academe and the industry. Afterwards, using surveys and semi‐structured interviews, the data was gathered from more than 30 South‐East European construction companies. Results were analyzed, producing a final set of 37 indicators. This study identified a low level of awareness of KPI models and performance management processes among the companies. Furthermore, the analysis showed a substantial difference in perception of KPIs among investors, consultants and contractors, which consequently led to a compiling list of KPIs. The top ten KPI's are: Quality, Cost, Number of investor interferences, Changes in project support, Time increase, Client satisfaction, Employees’ satisfaction, Innovation and learning, Time and Identification of client's interest. The paper concludes with final remarks and guidelines for the implementation of KPIs in practice. Santrauka Šiuolaikineje statybos imoneje efektyvumu pagristo lyginimo svarba jau yra neišvengiama, o statybu pramonei tai reiškia nuolatinius iššūkius. Šiuo darbu siekiama išnagrineti pagrindiniu statybu sektoriaus veiklos rodikliu (PVR) reikšme, vaidmeni ir rūšis bei pademonstruoti, kaip šie rodikliai vertinami remiantis skirtingais vadybos požiūriais. Apžvelgta literatūra, siekiant sudaryti akademineje aplinkoje ir pramoneje naudojamu PVR saraša. Pasitelkus apklausas ir iš dalies struktūrinius pokalbius, buvo surinkti duomenys iš daugiau kaip 30 pietryčiu Europos statybos imoniu. Išanalizavus rezultatus gautas galutinis 37 rodikliu rinkinys. Šiame tyrime nustatyta, kad imones menkai ka težino apie PVR modelius ir efektyvumo valdymo procesus. Be to, paaiškejo, kad investuotojai, konsultantai ir rangovai PVR suvokia gana skirtingai, ir del to teko sudaryti PVR saraša. Dešimt pagrindiniu PVR yra šie: kokybe, kaina, investuotojo kišimosi atveju skaičius, pasikeitusi parama projektui, nukelti terminai, kliento pasitenkinimas, darbuotoju pasitenkinimas, naujoves ir mokymasis, laikas, kliento interesu nustatymas. Darbo pabaigoje pateikiamos baigiamosios pastabos ir PVR taikymo praktikoje rekomendacijos.

The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of market concentration, market share, and OEOR on profitability in Islamic Banks in Indonesia and Malaysia in 2011 – 2015 using the paradigm of structure, conduct, and performance. The samples of the study consisted of a total 11 Islamic banks in Indonesia and 16 Islamic banks in Malaysia. The analysis technique use in this study was panel data regression using Eviews 7.0 programme. The independence variables of the study were market concentration ratio Herfindahl-Hirchman index), market share, and OEOR, while the dependent variable was the return of asset (ROA). The results of this study indicate that market concentration and market share variables not significantly affect the ROA of Islamic banks in Indonesia and Malaysia, while the OEOR variable has significant effect to the ROA of Islamic banks in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Abstract The key players in the construction industry are the construction companies. However, the level of contract awards among multinational and indigenous construction companies in most developing countries is poorly understood. This research aim at determining the level of contract awards among multinational and indigenous construction companies. The research employed a quantitative approach using both primary and secondary method of data collection to achieve the stated objective. Purposive sample techniques were used for collecting both the primary and secondary data. Structured questionnaires were administered to 70 construction professionals and contractors to determine the factors responsible for low indigenous contractor’s participation and award of contracts. Primary and secondary data were collected, and the findings reveal that 65% of the contract awards between 2002 and 2012 were won by the multinational construction companies. While the lack of requisite skill and technical know-how with a percentage severity index (SI) score of 97% was responsible for low indigenous construction companies awards. This result indicates that the multinational construction companies are dominating the construction industry.

After decades of civil war, Yemen is in a desperate situation, and the construction industry has been suffering from low productivity and poor performance. In order to improve the productivity for the Yemeni construction industry, Construction enterprises must adopt the best and new technologies, new management concepts and philosophies such as Total Quality Management (TQM) and concurrent engineering (CE) owing to achieve improvements in the process of product development. To ensure the successful implementation of CE in the Yemeni construction industry, it is necessary to assess the readiness of those companies to implement CE. In this paper, the BEACON model is used to assess the readiness of the Yemeni companies to implement the concept of CE, that assist in overcoming the construction industry's poor productivity and performance. A study assessing CE implementation readiness will help to promote successful CE implementation in the construction industry and enhance the efficiency of construction companies. The results show that most of the construction companies in the Yemen are not ready to implement CE. The main reason is that the enterprises rely heavily on traditional management methods, and need to improve the organization and management technology. The research results can provide theoretical support for construction companies, especially Yemen companies, to establish basis in implementing an appropriate CE approach for improving performance, and also help international construction companies entering the Yemen construction market to cooperate and implement CE.

The construction industry is deemed to be one of the most dangerous industries worldwide due to its special characteristics of production process. Globalization has brought about an increasing number of construction companies involving themselves in the international construction market. Due to involvement of participants from different countries and regions, international construction projects possess complexities from national, organizational and individual perspectives which may affect construction safety management adversely and lead to unsatisfactory safety performance. Safety climate, defined as “a unified set of cognitions regarding the safety aspects of the organization”, is often considered to be a predictor of safety behavior and performance. After conducting a comprehensive review of existing literature related to safety climate measurement in construction sector, this study highlights several conditions for selecting suitable safety climate instruments specific in international construction projects.

Abstract Companies in the construction industry have a wide range of suppliers to choose from to meet their building material needs. Local (in-state) suppliers within key southern states in the United States face challenges gaining market share within the construction sectors. Construction companies often outsource their purchase of wood products from a different state or country, which adversely affects the local economy as a result of loss of revenue. However, if companies were limited to in-state supply it would affect trade across states and countries; but the focus was to improve local wood products supplier market impact. Companies within the states of Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Florida, and Virginia were interviewed by phone and in person to determine how companies chose wood product suppliers and what factors affected their purchasing decisions. Key factors included cost, quality, delivery, flexibility, location, relationship, and payment options. A survey of construction companies was conducted after the interviews were concluded. Important factors highlighted by responses included cost, quality, relationship, and lead time in choosing a supplier. Suppliers were asked to differentiate their products using information the construction companies highlighted as factors they emphasized. In-state wood product suppliers have an opportunity to gain market share within the construction industry using the factors those construction companies favored in interviews and survey results.

The inheritance and innovation of ancient architecture decoration art is an important way for the development of the construction industry. The data process of traditional ancient architecture decoration art is relatively backward, which leads to the obvious distortion of the digitalization of ancient architecture decoration art. In order to improve the digital effect of ancient architecture decoration art, based on neural network, this paper combines the image features to construct a neural network-based ancient architecture decoration art data system model, and graphically expresses the static construction mode and dynamic construction process of the architecture group. Based on this, three-dimensional model reconstruction and scene simulation experiments of architecture groups are realized. In order to verify the performance effect of the system proposed in this paper, it is verified through simulation and performance testing, and data visualization is performed through statistical methods. The result of the study shows that the digitalization effect of the ancient architecture decoration art proposed in this paper is good.


This study investigated the use of e-Procurement in selected construction firms in Oyo state, Nigeria. The data were derived using a well-structured questionnaire survey involving 104 respondents. Descriptive statistical and correlation analyses were used to analyze the data. Findings show that the use of electronic procurement in the selected construction firms for carrying out procurement function is high with majority of the professionals affirming the use of the system, the four categories of e-Procurement used were e-mail, static websites, web.2.0 technologies and portals that have capabilities of supporting the execution of functions limited to intra and inter firm communication and exchange of project information and data. Consequently, between 84 percent and 76 percent of the respondents used these e-Procurement technologies for communication of information, exchange of bill of quantities, project reports, CAD drawings and project specifications. Consequently, factors with the highest positive impacts on the use of these technologies in the firms were the speed of transactions, lower transaction cost and ease of use. The study implies that the selected construction firms in Oyo state Nigeria predominantly use e-mails and websites to support the execution of pre-award phase of construction procurement. Finding also shows that there is positive relationship between e-Procurement (e-Notifying, e-Exchange, and e-Submission of bid) and Project delivery. The study suggests that to accelerate the rate of uptake of e-Procurement and maximize its benefits in the Nigerian construction industry, there is a need to improve the quality and quantity of ICT infrastructure across the country; and to embark on aggressive enlightenment campaigns, training and skill development programs in the use of e-Procurement in the construction industry in this country.
