This research use</span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;" lang="en-us" xml:lang="en-us">d</span></em><em></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;">a cross sectional study design. Research location i</span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;" lang="en-us" xml:lang="en-us">mplemented</span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> sprinkle programme. The sample was taken purposively with criteria not the first pregnancy, the age of pregnancy is between 8-28 weeks, and they are willing to be interviewed. The number of samples that were chosen are 100 pregnant women. Data that were collected were analyzed descriptively and statistically. In general, part (26%) of pregnant women had low nutrition knowledge. More than a half (71%) of pregnant women had moderate nutrition attitude. A half (50%) of pregnant women had good nutrition practice. Based on Spearman analysis, there </span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;" lang="en-us" xml:lang="en-us">we</span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;">re significant correlation between education level and nutrition knowledge (r=0.35, p&lt;0.05), between nutrition knowledge and nutrition attitude (r=0.34, p&lt;0.05), between nutrition knowledge and nutrition practice (r=0.266, p&lt;0.05). This research showed adequacy level of protein and iron </span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;" lang="en-us" xml:lang="en-us">we</span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;">re inadequate. Adequacy level of energy, protein, vitamin A, and iron pregnant women in Kramat Jati </span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;" lang="en-us" xml:lang="en-us">wa</span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;">s lower than Ragunan. Based on Spearman analysis there </span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;" lang="en-us" xml:lang="en-us">wa</span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;">s no correlation between nutrition knowledge and consumption rate of energy, protein, and iron. While there is significant correlation between nutrition knowledge of pregnant women and consumption rate of vitamin A. Adequacy level of energy </span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;" lang="en-us" xml:lang="en-us">wa</span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;">s affected by nutrition practice. Pregnant women with good nutrition practice had 16.7 times higher adequacy level of energy. Abstract Background Nutrition is an important predictor of an athlete’s performance. It is more important for particularly those athletes who are in the growing stage (adolescents). This study aimed to assess their current level of knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAP) of nutrition and to predict potential factor impact on the level of these KAP. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among adolescent trainee athletes selected conveniently from 11 sports departments (e.g. cricket, football, hockey etc.) of Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP). A semi-structured interviewer-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. Anthropometric measurements (e.g. height, weight, BMI, BF %) were taken using appropriate methods. The data were analyzed using R (v3.6.1) and Python Jupyter Notebook. Descriptive statistics, t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and logistic regression were used to determine the relationship between dependent and independent variables. Results A total number of 260 participants were enrolled in this study. Among them, 86% were male. Their mean age was 15.50 ± 1.83 ranging from 12–19 years. More than half of the participants had good nutrition knowledge (n = 149, 57.3%). Fifty-six percent participants had negative attitude (n = 146) and 42.3% (n = 110) had poor level of practices regarding nutrition. Age (p = 0.007), gender (p = 0.004) and duration of sports training (p = 0.004) of participants were significantly associated with knowledge, while only age and BMI were significantly associated with practices. Athletes with less body fat were more likely to have good nutrition practice behavior (AOR 0.895; 95% CI 0.83, 0.96; p < 0.05) and nutrition knowledge was positively associated with nutrition practice (AOR 2.335; 95% CI 1.405, 3.88; p = 0.001). Conclusion Insufficient knowledge, negative attitude, and poor practices were observed among many of our participants. Previous nutrition training was found as potential factor of good nutrition knowledge and practice. It is necessary to provide appropriate nutrition information to the adolescent athletes through proper educational intervention on a regular basis.

Education influences a changes in knowledge, attitudes, and lifestyle patterns in the selection of the type and amount of food consumed. The health of a pregnant women affects the fetus in her womb. Nutrient content consumed by the mother will be absorbed by the fetus which is important for the growth of the fetus itself. This study aims to determine the relationship of education level, energy intake and protein nutritional status of pregnant women in the Bungoro Health Center Work Area of Bungoro District, Pangkep Regency. This research is an analytical study with cross-sectional design. Samples were pregnant women, amount to 40 people. The level of education is obtained through a questionnaire. Energy and protein intake was obtained through 2x24 hours recall and then processed using menu A software. To find out the relationship between variables of education level, energy and protein intake with nutritional status, Chi-Square was tested using the SPSS program. Data is presented in the form of tables and narratives. The results showed that 77.5% of the sample education level was high. Sample energy intake was classified as less than 82.5% and 17.5% classified as good. Sample protein intake of 95% classified as poor and 5% classified as good. Nutritional status of pregnant women is 70% experiencing KEK and 30% normal. Statistical test results show that there is no relationship between education level, energy and protein intake and nutritional status of pregnant women in the Bungoro Health Center Work Area, Bungoro District, Pangkep Regency.

Essential nutrients are necessary for reducing the risk of maternal mortality, prenatal mortality, and low-birthweight infants. Dietary diversity can play an important role in supplying essential nutrients to both the mother and the foetus. We evaluated nutrition knowledge, attitudes, and dietary diversity of pregnant women. In addition, we investigated the sociodemographic determinants of dietary diversity among pregnant women from a rural district in Ghana. Participants were pregnant women receiving antenatal care from a rural district hospital in Ghana. Dietary diversity was measured using a 24-hour dietary recall questionnaire. Multiple linear regression was used to determine the sociodemographic characteristics of dietary diversity. About 85% of the pregnant women knew that they should eat more in comparison to nonpregnant women, and only 16.9% knew the importance of folic acid supplementation during pregnancy. Mean (SD) dietary diversity score of the participants was 5.27 (1.35), 85.4% did not consume any fruits, and 82.3% did not take milk and milk products. Almost all participants took at least one food item in the starchy staples and green leafy vegetables food groups. Moreover, 53% consumed vitamin A-rich fruits, vegetables, and tubers; 7.7% organ meats; and 30.8% eggs. Those who earned a monthly income of ≥GHC 500 or US$ 87 (B = 1.82; 0.90–2.73; p < 0.001 ) significantly had higher dietary diversity scores compared to those who earned less. Dietary diversity of the pregnant women was suboptimal. The consumption of vitamin A- and iron-rich foods was inadequate. Income was an important determinant of the dietary diversity of pregnant women from Northern rural Ghana.

Objectives To analyse intake of vitamin A (VA) and retinol concentrations in maternal blood, breast milk (BM), and the umbilical cord (UC) of newborns, and to determine the associations among these variables. Methods We performed a cross-sectional, epidemiological study of 180 mother–newborn dyads. Maternal and UC blood samples and BM were collected. VA intake by the mother over 30 days was assessed using a questionnaire. Results Mean retinol concentrations in maternal serum, the UC, and BM were 0.65 ± 0.27, 0.36 ± 0.18, and 2.95 ± 2.70 µmol/L, respectively. Retinol concentrations <0.70 µmol/L were found in 57.2% of maternal blood samples and in 94.9% of UC samples. A total of 27.9% of BM samples showed retinol concentrations <1.05 µmol/L. Mean VA intake by the mothers was 1041.33 ± 1187.86 µg retinol activity equivalents/day and was inadequate (<550 µg retinol activity equivalents/day) in 44.7%. Conclusions High proportions of insufficient retinol concentrations were observed in the UC, maternal blood, and BM. A high percentage of pregnant women had inadequate VA intake. Mothers with insufficient serum retinol concentrations had newborns with lower retinol concentrations in the UC. Higher retinol concentrations were observed in maternal blood and the UC with a higher VA intake.

A cross-sectional study of the prevalence of iron and vitamin A deficiencies in 318 pregnant women revealed that 50.7% had iron deficiency and 21.3% had marginally deficient or deficient vitamin A status. Based on results, the influence of vitamin A and iron supplementation was studied in 305 anaemic pregnant women in west Java, in a randomized, doubleblind, placebo-controlled field trial. The women with a haemoglobin between 80 and 109 g/L were randomly allocated to four groups: vitamin A (2.4 mg retinol) and placebo iron tablets; iron (60 mg elemental iron as ferrous sulphate) and placebo vitamin A; vitamin A and iron; and both placebos, all daily for eight weeks. Maximum haemoglobin was achieved with both vitamin A and iron supplementation (12. 78 g/L, 95% Cl 10.86 to 14.70), with one-third of the response attributable to vitamin A (3.68 g/L, 2.03 to 5.33) and two-thirds to iron (771 g/L, 5.97 to 9.45). After supplementation, the proportion of women who became non-anaemic was 35 % in the vitamin Asupplemented group, 68% in the ironsupplemented group, 97% in the group supplemented with both, and 16% in the placebo group. We conclude that improvement in vitamin A status may contribute to the control of anaemia in pregnant women.

ABSTRACT Background: The role of fish as nutrients source is very important because fish contains nutrients that to be required the body. Many markets in the city that prepare daily consumption should not become barrier for serving fish dish in family menu. Moreover Semarang city is harbour city; the fish is easy to be accessed in Semarang. But until this time role of fish in consumption of traditional food is rare because apart of population less recognize the advantage of fish. The objective of this study is to analize the relationship between income, mother's nutrition knowledge and fish stock at household level. Method: This cross sectional study was conducted to 75 mothers who be educated minimal the end of high school in Jagalan house of village-head, district of Center Semarang, Semarang city, taken by systematic random sampling. Data analyzing with Spearman correlation test. Result: Income/capita/month from mother/household ranged between Rp 99.000,00 until Rp 937.000,00. Stage of income/capita/month that more than equal with Regional Minimum Commision is 16%, less than Regional Minimum Commision is 84%. Score of mother's nutrition knowledge ranged between 50,0 until 100,0 with rate was 83,5. For category of good nutrition knowledge, the percentage is 66,7%, enough category 30,7% and less category 2,7%. For fish stock in household ranged between 0-1 times/day. For category of less stock as much as 29,3%, enough category 53,3% and good category 17,3%. Correlation coefficient for income/capita/month was 0,284 (ρ value 0,014). For mother's nutrition knowledge, correlation coefficient was 0,466 (ρ value 0,000). Conclusion: The higher mother’s Income/capita/month and nutrition knowledge, the higher fish stock in household. ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Peranan ikan sebagai bahan penyedia gizi sangatlah penting karena ikan mengandung zat-zat gizi yang sangat dibutuhkan tubuh. Banyaknya pasar di Kota Semarang yang menyediakan kebutuhan sehari-hari, seharusnya sudah bukan merupakan halangan untuk penyajian hidangan ikan dalam menu keluarga. Apalagi Kota Semarang merupakan kota pelabuhan, ikan mudah didapatkan. Namun sampai saat ini peran ikan dalam konsumsi pangan tradisional masih kecil karena sebagian penduduk kurang mengenal manfaat ikan. Tujuan penelitian untuk menganalisis hubungan pendapatan, pengetahuan gizi ibu dengan ketersediaan ikan di tingkat rumah tangga. Metode: Penelitian menggunakan metode penelitian survei masyarakat, jenis penelitian analitik, pendekatan waktu cross sectional. Pelaksanaan penelitian bulan September-Oktober 2004. Analisis data dengan uji korelasi Spearman. Populasi adalah ibu yang berpendidikan minimal tamat SLTA di Kelurahan Jagalan, Kecamatan Semarang Tengah, Kota Semarang (305 orang) dengan sampel sebanyak 75 orang. Hasil: Pendapatan/kapita/bulan ibu/rumah tangga bervariasi dari Rp 99.000,00 - Rp 937.000,00. Tingkat pendapatan/kapita/bulan yang >UMR persentasenya 16%, yang <UMR 84%. Nilai pengetahuan gizi ibu tentang ikan berkisar antara 50,0-100,0 dengan nilai rata-rata 83,5. Untuk kategori pengetahuan gizi baik, persentasenya 66,7%, kategori cukup 30,7% dan kategori kurang 2,7%. Untuk ketersediaan ikan tingkat rumah tangga, berkisar antara 0-1 kali/hari. Untuk kategori ketersediaan kurang ada 29,3%, kategori cukup 53,3% dan kategori baik 17,3%. Hasil uji korelasi Spearman untuk pendapatan/kapita/bulan diperoleh nilai rs=0,284 (p=0,014). Untuk pengetahuan gizi ibu tentang ikan diperoleh nilai rs=0,466 (p=0,000). AbstractObjectiveTo determine the serum levels of three lipid-soluble antioxidants (retinol, β-carotene and α-tocopherol) in pregnant women attending an antenatal clinic (ANC) in Gondar, Ethiopia.DesignA cross-sectional study involving laboratory determination of serum levels of retinol, α-tocopherol and β-carotene using high-performance liquid chromatography and questionnaire-based assessment of socio-economic status.SettingANC of a university teaching hospital.SubjectsThree hundred and twenty-two healthy pregnant women in their third trimester, who attended the ANC.ResultsMean serum levels of retinol, α-tocopherol and β-carotene were found to be 1.23±0.5, 25.5±0.9 and 0.21±0.09 μmol l−1, respectively. The prevalence of vitamin A deficiency (<1.05 μmol l−1) among pregnant women was 38.5%. Women having low retinol (vitamin A) levels were highly likely to live in earth-floored and mud-walled houses, and less likely to own a house and to have a latrine.ConclusionThe study shows that serum levels of lipid-soluble antioxidants were low among ANC attendees in northern Ethiopia. It also indicates that some socio-economic factors (such as poor housing standard) are associated with vitamin A deficiency.

Purpose Although anemia during pregnancy is common in the USA, socio-demographic factors make pregnant women enrolled in Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program more vulnerable than the general population. The purpose of this study was to examine the socio-demographic characteristics, blood hemoglobin concentrations, nutrition knowledge and potential associations among these factors in a sample of pregnant women participating in the WIC program. Design/methodology/approach A cross-sectional study using survey methodology was conducted. In total, 60 pregnant women who were between 12 and 24 weeks of gestation and were carrying a single fetus were recruited from two WIC clinics. Overall nutrition knowledge was assessed with 42 questions arranged into three subscales. Participants’ scores were transformed into tertiles. WIC program records were used to record blood hemoglobin values. Principal component analysis was used to validate the knowledge subscales. Correlational and multivariate regression analyses were conducted to examine the relationship among variables. Findings Prevalence of anemia among the participants was higher than the national averages. Only 10 per cent of participants scored in the high tertile for nutrition knowledge. Anemia-during-pregnancy knowledge score was positively correlated with blood hemoglobin concentrations (r = 0.23, p < 0.05), and it was also a predictor of blood hemoglobin levels (R2 = 0.364, p = 0.02). Originality/value This is the first study to report on the knowledge of anemia, anemia during pregnancy and preventive measures among pregnant women enrolled in the WIC program.

Background: Behaviour to read the food label on tenager, particullary college students in Indonesia is low. College students are the perfect population to create good habits in order to prevent health issue. Nutriton students expected to be good sample for the people in choosing health food, so food label practice should be a habit for nutrition students.Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship among product attribute perception (the taste, price, and nutrition content of product), nutrition knowledge and food label with food label practice on nutrition student of STIKes Binawan.Methods: This research was conducted in April 2018 at STIKes Binawan with actual subject 107 respondent. This research use Cross Sectional design and Chi-Square statistical test. The data of this research was primary data, namely questionmaire.Results: As many as 58% of respondents have a habit of reading good food labels. 90.6% of the respondents had good nutrition knowledge and food label, while more than 90% of respondents stated perceptions of product attributes (taste, price, and nutrient content) are important.Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between the perception of price and nutrition content of the product with food label practice.
