With advent of new Smartphone technologies and the widespread utilization of touch screen mobile phones made humans embrace technology more and depend on it extensively and compulsively in their lives. Due to the new communication technologies and Smart phones the world is becoming a trajectory place where man is not relying on man for its needs but depending more on Smartphone apps which is replacing multivariate structure of human behavior where Smartphone Apps are transforming its functional role as a Guru, Mentor, Family physician, shopping consultant and so on. The present study is exploring the impact of Smartphone User Applications (Apps) on the behavior of the engineering students. This study examined Smartphone user behaviors and their relation to Smartphone addiction. A General Behavioral survey guided by a well structured self design questionnaire has been administered across a sample of hundred students. The questionnaire is comprised of Thirty items measuring amount, duration and pattern of usage of various Smartphone apps specifically health apps, entertainment apps, shopping apps, communication apps, and education apps.  Overall test score measuring overall addiction to the Smartphone. A Sample is assigned using random sampling and purposive sampling method. Two groups are divided in fifty male and fifty female across the age ranges from 18- 22 years from various Engineering Colleges to measure gender differences. The test findings showing significant level of difference among the Smartphone addiction across the gender in accordance with usage of various Smartphone apps. The overall trend shows male students are more prone to Smartphone addiction than female.

Anxiety is a public phenomenon that constitutes a public source of inadequate performance globally and plays a significant role in their lives. Engineering students and academics have been through immense changes in education because of the effect of the COVID-19 crisis. It is well-known that epidemics' occurrence creates or accentuates new stressors, including panic and fears for loved ones or oneself, constraints on social activities and physical movement due to quarantine, and unforeseen and radical change of lifestyle. This study aimed to assess the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown policy on engineering students’ anxiety in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Nigeria. The study confirmed that the students had an increase in the anxiety level, in which the female student had a higher level of anxiety than the male students. The highest contributing factors to the anxiety include "worries about academic delays/extension of the academic calendar," "worries about a delay in life plans as a result of the suspension of school," and "worries about running out of supplies." The main areas that anxiety impacted the lives of the students include "a decline in book reading /studies/academics," "finding it hard to focus," "being unable to hang out with friends," and "difficulties in falling asleep." Finally, the students managed the level of anxiety mainly by "the use of internet/social media/chatting," "prayer/self-motivation/meditation/reflection," and "watching movies/TV/music."

This study aimed to determine the impact of the application of socrative to the reading ability of students in industrial 4.0 era, where anything was done using the internet and computers. The method used in this study was the pre-experimental type One Group Pretest-Posttest. This method used a class that was used as the object of research. This research was conducted at SMK 1 Baureno located on Jl. Raya Kepohbaru Department No. 258, Baureno, Plumbungan, Bojonegoro. The object of this research was the 10th grade computer and network engineering students at SMK 1 Baureno. The number of students was 34 consisting of 17 male students and 17 female students. This research was conducted on February 5 through March 11, academic year 2019/2020. There were three activities carried out, namely pretest, treatment and posttest. The hypothesis accepted in this study was the alternative hypothesis (Ha). Because the results of this study indicated that the t-test of 34 students was 17,07 with a significant level of t-table 0,05. This mean that there were differences in the ability of students before and after treatment was given. And from the results of questionnaires that had been done that 10th grade students of computer and network technique at SMK 1 Baureno prefered to read online (using socrative) rather than reading offline. Keywords: Reading, socrative

Abstract As smartphone usage is more and more ubiquitous, the app market is flourishing in all fields, including health. Indeed, the availability and use of smartphone apps (SAs) in health has exponentially grown in recent years. It has been estimated that in 2018 there were over 97,000 health apps available and that, 15% and 8% of US phone users aged 18-29 and 30-49 years respectively had health apps installed on their mobile devices. Health apps might potentially support people health paths in multiple ways: channeling health education, enabling personal health data tracking, self-monitoring and goals setting, facilitating access to health records or compliance to treatment, fostering effective communication with healthcare providers and health services, as well as supporting clinical decision-making. Despite such large potential, still scant evidence is available on the impact of SAs on clinical outcomes in different fields of medicine, including mental health. With an estimated prevalence of around 450 million people currently suffering from mental disorders and 1 in 4 people in the world affected at some point in own life, mental disorders are a leading cause of ill-health and disability worldwide whose prevention and care might be enhanced by mHealth technology. The general aim of the presentation is to provide an overview on the use and impact of SAs in the field of mental health. Specific objectives are: i) to present a conceptual framework on how SAs might support mental disorders prevention, diagnosis and treatment, ii) to report on SAs use in mental health in different settings, iii) to collect and pool available evidence from observational and experimental studies on the impact of SAs use on different mental health outcomes, iv) to explore the quality, effectiveness and attributes of top-rated smartphone mental health apps and lastly, v) to suggest gaps in knowledge to be filled by future research.


In this research papaer we presented the results of exploration of gender differences in conceptual understanding of rolling motion (velocities and work-energy principle). For this purpose, we have selected nine conceptual items and conducted experiment with 184 first year students at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, University of Zagreb. Results show that male students significantly outperformed female students. We detected particularly large differences on items that tests knowledge of the rolling phenomena. Results of our research can help teachers to create lessons that are adapted to general student population.

The study attempted to explore the impact of personality traits on academic performance with regards to gender differences. A primary study was conducted on a sample size of 666 students (453 males and 213 females). Using Mann-Whitney analysis, it was found that different personality traits impact the academic performance of students for both boys and girls. Extraversion, Conscientiousness Agreeableness and Emotional Stability were found to influence the academic performance of male students. On the other hand, Openness influenced the academic performance of female students. Conscientiousness was the only trait to influence the academic performance of both male as well as female students.

A dramatic increase in engineering student participation during the last decade indicates heightened student and faculty interest in engineering service experiences. The first step towards understanding why students are drawn to such opportunities is to examine how students perceive engineering service experiences as an important source of learning technical and professional skills involved in the engineering disciplines. The following study investigates how students compare their service experience with their traditional coursework experience as a source of learning professional and technical skills in engineering. Students’ perception of where they learned professional and technical knowledge or skills provides an insight into the potential impact service-based interventions creates. This study compares service experiences with traditional coursework-based learning to examine the impact of service on students’ perception of learning sources. Students participating in an eclectic and large variety of engineering service experiences were surveyed. Engineering students on average identified that 45% of what they have learned about technical skills and 62% of what they have learned about professional skills was gained through their engineering service experience. Female students credited service experiences as their source of both professional and technical skills significantly higher than male students, and were consistent across academic years. Engineering students’ perceive service-based learning experiences, relative to their traditional course-based learning, to significantly impact what they know about technical and professional engineering outcomes.

Collaborative and sustainable actions carried out by a group of teachers/lecturers through lesson study with an information and communication technologies approach can meet the needs of the world of education in era 4.0. This study aims to analyze the impact of the application of lesson study in learning activities on the technical measurement on mechanical engineering students of the Universitas Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa. The research method uses lesson research with a qualitative approach. The applied lesson study model adopts Saito et al. (2005), in which its implementation consists of 2 cycles, each cycle includes the stages of the plan, do, and see. The learning media used are a digital book, e-learning using Edmodo, Toyota 7k engine stand, handphone, cylinder block, clutch, differential, dial gauge, cylinder gauge, vernier caliper, and micrometer. The sample selected amounted to 30 students and involved two observers in each cycle. The results of this study indicate that the essence of lesson study has an impact on increasing student activity by 40% in cycle 1 and 34%  in cycle 2. The lesson study also has an effect on improving the quality of the lecturer’s evaluation on the students’ learning outcomesTindakan kolaboratif dan berkelanjutan yang dilakukan sekelompok guru/dosen melalui lesson study dengan pendekatan information and communication technologies dapat memenuhi kebutuhan dunia pendidikan di era 4.0. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dampak penerapan lesson study dalam kegiatan pembelajaran pengukuran teknik pada mahasiswa pendidikan teknik mesin Universitas Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa. Metode penelitian menggunakan lesson research dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Model lesson study yang diterapkan mengadopsi dari Saito dkk (2005), dimana dalam pelaksanaannya terdiri dari 2 siklus dengan tahapan tiap siklusnya meliputi plan, do, dan see. Media pembelajaran yang digunakan adalah digital book, e-learning melalui edmodo, engine stand toyota 7k, handphone, blok silinder, kopling, gardan, dial gauge, cylinder gauge vernier celiper dan mikrometer. Sampel yang dipilih berjumlah 30 mahasiswa dengan melibatkan 2 observer pada tiap siklusnya. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa esensi lesson study berdampak pada peningkatan keaktifan siswa sebesar 40% pada siklus 1 dan meningkat 34% pada siklus 2, selain itu berdampak pada peningkatan kualitas evaluasi dosen terhadap hasil belajar mahasiswa

This research presents the analysis of image of the popular program packages: CAS (Computer Algebra Systems) Matlab, Mathcad, Mathematica, and the spreadsheet ‘Microsoft Excel’ among students of engineering specializations studying in Bauman Moscow State Technical University (BMSTU). The research has explored perception of program packages by all students (N=164), and by male students (N=110) and female students (N=54) separately. Image of the program packages, convenience of their interfaces, usage scenarios, and applicability for solution of tasks of certain types have been explored via questioning the students. Moreover, the students assessed likelihood of using the programs in the future. It was established that all the program packages under consideration can be successfully used in the process of education, but some of them (Matlab and Mathematica) require additional lessons to learn their interface and peculiarities. Gender differences in perception of the program packages do not determine the education outcomes. The differences of perception of the programs are mainly caused by their popularity and the students’ skills of using certain programs. The following gender differences have been detected: in the female students’ sample, the programs Mathcad and Excel are leading, Matlab is performed a little worse; Matlab is associated with the statement “difficult / inconvenient interface”. In the male students’ sample, the three programs Matlab, Mathcad, and Microsoft Excel got nearly equal grades. Female students estimate future usage of Microsoft Excel higher than male students do. The CAS Mathematica takes the lowest places for both samples; as a possible cause of such result, it has been found that Mathematica is not widespread as compared to the other programs under consideration. BackgroundAs mental healthcare expands to smartphone apps and other technologies that may offer therapeutic interventions without a therapist involved, it is important to assess the impact of non-traditional therapeutic relationships.AimsTo determine if there were any meaningful data regarding the digital therapeutic alliance in smartphone interventions for serious mental illnesses.MethodA literature search was conducted in four databases (PubMed, PsycINFO, Embase and Web of Science).ResultsThere were five studies that discuss the therapeutic alliance when a mobile application intervention is involved in therapy. However, in none of the studies was the digital therapeutic alliance the primary outcome. The studies looked at different mental health conditions, had different duration of technology use and used different methods for assessing the therapeutic alliance.ConclusionsAssessing and optimising the digital therapeutic alliance holds the potential to make tools such as smartphone apps more effective and improve adherence to their use. However, the heterogeneous nature of the five studies we identified make it challenging to draw conclusions at this time. A measure is required to evaluate the digital therapeutic alliance.

Background: Gender plays a significant role in the selection of medical specialty. Few studies have been conducted to explore the impact of gender differences on specialty choosing among Chinese medical students.Methods: The specialty choices of 648 students from six consecutive classes in an 8-year MD program were collected and compared between male and female students. A total of 110 students from one graduating class were surveyed by a questionnaire covering 22 career influencing factors. Each factor has a scale of zero to three (zero = no influence, one = mild influence, two = moderate influence, and three = strong influence).Results: Statistically significant gender differences were observed in 10 out of 16 specialties. Most male students limited their specialty choices to surgery (64%), internal medicine (12%), and orthopedics (12%), compared with a relatively diversified pattern in female students. For male students, the top three influencing factors were personal interest, future job prospects for the chosen specialty, and job opportunity in academic medicine. The strongest influencing factors of females were personal interest, specialty-specific knowledge and skills, and the sense of achievement. The expected salary was ranked among the top 10 influencing factors in male but not in females, while the work-life balance was ranked among the top 10 factors in females but not in males.Conclusion: There is a significant gender difference regarding specialty choices among Chinese medical students. Career coaching is needed to help students in their specialty choosing process.
