Background: The transfemoral approach (TFA) has been the standard in neuroradiology over the years. However, the transradial approach (TRA) and its variants offer several benefits over the TFA. Methods: Review of the literature about TRA and its variations. We present our results for different neurointerventional procedures at our institution between January 2018 and December 2019. Results: We wrote an educational review describing anatomical and technical aspects, advantages, and complications of this approach. In the past year we increased the percentage of neurointerventional procedures performed through radial or ulnar arteries. Conclusion: There are clearly proven benefits of employing a wrist approach in patients for neurointerventional procedures and its utilization should especially be considered on a daily basis.

Biometrics is one of the basic detection techniques used in law enforcement activities on a daily basis. Like other techniques, it is constantly changing. This article aims to provide an overview of what was in the past, what is now, and what will be in the near future. It presents the selected methods of collecting some of the data, as well as the systems used to process them. In addition, practical guidance is provided on how individual biometric data should be collected and, for specific cases, it explains why the data collection procedure is carried out in one way and not another, and what it means for its subsequent processing. As problems sometimes arise during recovery of the material they have been presented together with an overview of the reasons for that. In addition to information on the technical aspects, the article also includes references to legal acts regulating issues related to biometrics.

Extensive research has investigated how perceived brand globalness (PBG) and perceived brand localness (PBL) affect brand preference since Steenkamp, Batra, and Alden’s (2003) landmark article. In this systematic literature review, we organize and synthesize the literature on PBG and PBL by analyzing 95 articles published in the past 17 years. We identify similarities, inconsistencies, and omissions in the literature by investigating different conceptualizations of PBG and PBL, boundary conditions of PBG and PBL effects on brand preference, psychological mechanisms through which PBG and PBL affect brand preference, the theoretical foundations underlying PBG and PBL research, and methodological approaches used in the literature. The study outlines avenues for further research based on prior research and current global trends, such as hybridization/glocalization marketing strategies, antiglobalization trends, and digitalization.

OBJECTIVEThe transradial approach (TRA) has been widely adopted by interventional cardiologists but is only now being accepted by neurointerventionalists. The benefits of the TRA over the traditional transfemoral approach (TFA) include reduced risk of adverse clinical events and faster recovery. The authors assessed the safety and feasibility of the TRA for neurointerventional cases in the pediatric population.METHODSPediatric patients undergoing cerebrovascular interventions since implementation of the TRA at the authors’ institution were retrospectively reviewed. Pertinent patient information, procedure indications, vessels catheterized, fluoroscopy time, and complications were reviewed.RESULTSThere were 4 patients in this case series, and their ages ranged from 13 to 15 years. Each patient tolerated the procedure performed using the TRA without any postprocedural issues, and only 1 patient experienced radial artery spasm, which resolved with the administration of intraarterial verapamil. None of the patients required conversion to the TFA.CONCLUSIONSThe TRA can be considered a safe alternative to the TFA for neurointerventional procedures in the pediatric population and provides potential advantages. However, as pediatric patients require special consideration due to their smaller-caliber arteries, routine use of ultrasound guidance is advised when attempting the TRA.

PurposeThere has been significant growth in entrepreneurship research over the past several decades. Yet with all of the knowledge gained and presumably improved training of would-be entrepreneurs, firm failure rates remain persistently high. It is argued here that the historical and continued research focus on successful entrepreneurs has limited the field. Entrepreneurs are often considered to possess uniquely positive capabilities relative to the general population; this paper explores the possibility that the majority of entrepreneurs suffer from overconfidence and that this leads most entrepreneurs to make “bad bets” that result in underperformance and firm failure.Design/methodology/approachIn this paper, a qualitative review of the literature was performed.FindingsBased on the literature review, three formal propositions are developed. The first two suggest that the majority of entrepreneurs are overconfident in their personal capabilities and the prospects for their new ventures. It is then proposed that this overconfidence leads to errors in judgment that results in financial underperformance and failure found among most new ventures.Originality/valueThis paper makes an important contribution to the entrepreneurship literature by arguing that overconfidence negatively impacts pre-founding decision-making such that entrepreneurs pursue flawed opportunities. Studying the issues raised in this paper may spur new lines of research and knowledge that lead to better entrepreneurial outcomes.

Context: Over the past few decades, transradial access has been increasingly utilized for neurointerventional procedures including carotid angioplasty and stent placement (CAS). Objective: To compare the outcomes of CAS performed via transradial approach with those performed using transfemoral approach within the same institution. Methods: We analyzed all the elective CAS procedures performed at our institute in the last 48 months and divided the procedures based on initial approach (transradial or transfemoral). Both approaches were used by same interventionalists to minimize inter-operator variability. We compared the rates of technical failure; hemorrhagic complications classified as major (hemoglobin decrease >5 g/dL or intracranial hemorrhage with deficits), minor (hemoglobin decreases 3-5 g/dL or intracranial hemorrhage without residual deficits), or insignificant; and any stroke and/or death within 1-month post procedure. Results: A total of 120 elective CAS procedures were performed at our institution; 84 patients (70%) were initiated as transfemoral and 36 patients (30%) were initiated as transradial approach. There were 6 (16%) CAS procedures initiated as trans-radial but later switched to transfemoral due to anatomical and/or technical difficulties. Similarly, 1(1.2%) procedure was switched to transradial from transfemoral. So finally, 89 (74%) patients had transfemoral approach and 31 (26%) patients had transradial approach to CAS. The median age was similar between the two groups (66.5 years versus 67.3 years). The rates of major hemorrhagic complications were 2 (2.2 %) and 0 (0%) in CAS performed using tranfemoral and tranradial approaches, respectively. The rate of any stroke and/or death within 30 days post procedure was 5 (5.6 %) and 1 (3.2 %) in CAS performed using transfemoral and transradial approaches, respectively. The median fluoroscopy time was 36.1 minutes and 34.4 minutes using transfemoral and transfemoral approaches, respectively (p =0.72). Conclusions: Transradial approach is comparable to transfemoral approach for performance of CAS in regard to clinical endpoints although the rates of technical failure remain relatively high in patients in whom CAS was initiated from transradial approach.

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: Psoriasis is a systemic condition with several dermatological manifestations that affect many individuals on a daily basis. According to Langley et al in a study titled “Psoriasis: epidemiology, clinical features, and quality of life,” psoriasis affects 2% of the American population, which is approximately 6 million people. Out of these 6 million people, approximately 2–3% are affected by palmoplantar psoriasis (Farber et al). Plantar psoriasis in particular can cause significant functional and social disabilities. To date there is paucity of information regarding the standard of treatment for plantar psoriasis. We will attempt to compile and summarize the research that will help doctors treat patients with plantar psoriasis using evidence-based medicine. METHODS: A thorough review of the literature that has been published regarding the care of plantar psoriasis will be investigated and summarized. In this effort, we aim to create a resource to aid the physician in designing a treatment plan for the patient that will be most effective with the highest rate of successful skin clearance. RESULTS: Although many studies have been done about psoriasis and its many forms, not much has been published focusing on plantar psoriasis. There lacks one concise source in regards to which treatment is most efficacious. We predict that through a thorough literature review an effective treatment protocol can be developed for plantar psoriasis. CONCLUSIONS: The intent of this study is to perform a literature review on various treatment modalities to develop a protocol to medically manage plantar psoriasis.

AbstractReports of incidental pneumomediastinum in infants secondary to inflicted trauma are limited. A retrospective review of infants with pneumomediastinum and history of inflicted trauma was performed. A comprehensive literature review was performed. Three infants presented with pneumomediastinum associated with inflicted trauma. Mean age was 4.6 weeks. All patients underwent diagnostic studies, as well as a standardized evaluation for nonaccidental trauma. All patients with pneumomediastinum were resolved at follow-up. Review of the literature identified other cases with similar presentations with related oropharyngeal injuries. Spontaneous pneumomediastinum in previously healthy infants may be associated with inflicted injuries. Clinicians should be aware of the possibility of an oropharyngeal perforation related to this presentation.

The rise of e-commerce has brought considerable changes to the relationship between firms and consumers, especially within international business. Hence, understanding the use of such means for entering foreign markets has become critical for companies. However, the research on this issue is new and so it is important to evaluate what has been studied in the past. In this study, we conduct a systematic review of e-commerce and internationalisation studies to explicate how firms use e-commerce to enter new markets and to export. The studies are classified by theories and methods used in the literature. Moreover, we draw upon the internationalisation decision process (antecedents-modalities-consequences) to propose an integrative framework for understanding the role of e-commerce in internationalisation

A review of the literature on the stages of the formation of temporary and permanent occlusion has been performed. This stages play an important role not only for the full development of the maxillofacial apparatus, temporomandibular joint, but also the whole organism. The role of early tooth extraction in the formation of the physiological state of the dentoalveolar system is considered. The conclusion is drawn about the need for a deeper study of this problem in the structure of general dental morbidity.
