This survey aims to see the relationship between the media and changes in the norm of citizenship and the political participation of young voters in the West Sumatra Governor Election on December 9, 2020. This survey uses the survey method with 350 respondents in West Sumatra. The survey results show that the differences in gender, age and educational background of respondents do not significantly affect the media and changes in citizenship norms. The results of the hypothesis testing that have been carried out show that educational background is not a differentiating factor for the media, but a differentiating factor for changes in citizenship norms. Furthermore, the relationship analysis test shows that often the media has a significant relationship with changes in citizenship norms. Meanwhile, citizenship norms have a significant relationship with citizens' political participation. Then, the regression analysis test found that media and changes in citizenship norms together make a significant contribution to political participation. Based on the results of the survey and the results of hypothesis testing, it can be concluded that political euphoria in the transition to democracy has changed media patterns, citizenship norms, and political participation among young voters in West Sumatra.

We explore the relationship between ballot measures on issues salient to Millennials and their turnout in presidential and midterm elections. Both scholars and observers in the media have worried about decreasing levels of citizen participation, particularly among young voters. We demonstrate that one way to engage Millennials into traditional forms of political participation is through ballot measures that focus on issues salient to their generation (marijuana liberalization and higher education reform). We show that not only do these measures increase Millennial voting, but they erase difference in turnout levels between Millennials and older generations. This effect is primarily concentrated in low-turnout contexts such as midterm elections, indicating that these measures may be playing a similar mobilization role in midterm elections as presidential campaigns do in turnout out low-propensity voters.

Bureaucracy in Indonesia faces problems in the areas of human resources apparatus and public services. Therefore, the government made bureaucratic reform efforts. The implementation of bureaucratic reform is supported by efforts to develop the competence of the state of civil apparatus, through education and training. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct an evaluation study after training the RLA alumni. The formulation of the problem among others:  What is the ability of self after RLA training?;  What is the relationship between the RLA  training  material  and  the  competencies  needed  to  carry  out  the  task?;  and  what  are  the organizational support for innovative interventions/solutions initiated by alumni? This study is carried out  using  descriptive  methods.  The  collection  data  was  carried  out  with  collecting  data  using instruments questionaire. This study focuses on the implementation of reform initiatives by RLA alumni; while the locus is the alumni of the RLA in the west Sumatra provincial government. Collecting data are conducting in September 2018. Furthermore, data are analyzing by qualitative analysis techniques. The results of the post training evaluation of the alumni of the RLA in the West Sumatra Provincial Government showed: (1) The ability of the RLA alumni to vary greatly, remained and decreased.  Increased  ability  in  problem  analysis,  mapping  stakeholders  and  communication  to subordinates and colleagues. Permanent ability in communication to stakeholders, motivation, building work teams, conducting innovative strategies and innovative interventions / solutions. Declining abilities in commitment to monitor innovative interventions / solutions due to organizational mutations. (2) The relationship between RLA training materials and the competencies needed to carry out the tasks varies significantly and significantly. There is a significant relationship between the material providing innovative solutions and mapping stakeholders in building effective teams with the competencies needed to carry out the task. And there is a significant relationship between the ability to analyze problems and ensure the successful implementation of innovative solutions with the competencies needed to carry out the task. (3) Organizational support for innovative interventions / solutions initiated by alumni is limited to policy support; while infrastructure support, budget and human resources are not available. Therefore, it is necessary to empower alumni after RLA training through continuous innovation with the support of infrastructure, budget and human resources needed to ensure the continuation of the implementation of the post-training trainee innovations in their work organizations.

Purpose This paper aims to explore the relationships between political marketing via social media and young voters’ political participation in Ghana. Additionally, this study examines the mediating role political efficacy plays in enhancing the relationship. Design/methodology/approach With a positivist mindset, and adopting the survey strategy, data gathered from the questionnaire administered from the sampled 320 young voters (18-29 years) in Greater Accra were quantitatively analyzed. An exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modeling (SEM) were used to assess and confirm the proposed scales validity and the relationships of the research model. Findings The study revealed that a political party or candidate’s ability to achieve political participation from Ghanaian young voters’ is dependent on how effective they build customer relationship or gaining visibility through social media. In addition, the study showed that political efficacy mediates the relationship between customer relationship building or gaining visibility through social media and political participation among Ghana young voters. Thus, young voters in Ghana must see themselves to have a say in the affairs of political parties through the political messages they gather from social media platforms to enhance their political participation activities. Practical implications The results of this paper will enable political marketers and politicians not only in Ghana but across the globe, to better understand how social media as a communication tool could be used to positively influence users’ political participation. Originality/value Considering the uniqueness of this study in a Ghanaian context, this paper is the first of its kind to use the social capital theory in examining the mediating role political efficacy plays in enhancing the relationship between political marketing on social media and young voters’ political participation.

The over-representation of crime is a prevalent occurrence in the media; so too is the under-representation of certain types of victims of crime. The purpose of the current study is to explore the role that characteristics of homicide victims play in the presentation and prominence of a news story. The study uses a sample of 3,998 newspaper articles on homicide from the Vancouver Sun to assess the relationship between victims who are cumulatively portrayed as more ‘sympathetic’ and structural measures of prominence in newspapers (placement on the front page, inclusion of a photograph, length of article). The findings reflect a statistically significant relationship between victim characteristics and prominent placement of a news article. Practical implications are discussed in relation to how disproportionate reporting of marginalized victims contributes to, reinforces and reproduces further marginalization in society and by law enforcement.

The myth of modern culture's superiority to other cultures is instilled as a norm to the masses through the media. The myth of the cultural superiority of the West not only formed with the economic possibilities of the West but was also supported by the non-Western world by self-orientalism, thus becoming sustainable. While themes such as modernity, development, and technological superiority are watched within the scope of Hollywood films, several platforms have been created for non-US countries to watch alternative films. Although films known as European and World Cinema have the chance to show themselves at film festivals rather than film theatres, non-Western directors face a cultural challenge in these festivals due to the sociocultural structure of Western-based film festivals. In this study, by examining how non-Western directors are directed towards self-orientalism indirectly through festivals and funds, the relationship between the creation of sustainable orientalism in cinema and the political economy of the film industry will be revealed.
