This report examines effects of structural and process features of professional development programs on teachers' knowledge, practice and efficacy. It is based on four recent (2002-2003) studies undertaken through the Australian Government Quality Teacher Programme, designed to enhance teacher quality. The total data set for the survey study includes 3,250 teachers who had participated in eighty individual professional development1 activities within these studies. Teachers were surveyed at least three months after participating in an activity, which provided them with the opportunity to gauge the impact of programs on their practice. To investigate factors affecting impact, a theoretical model was developed based on recent research into the characteristics of effective professional development and tested using blockwise regression analysis. The model included contextual factors (e.g., school support), structural features of programs (e.g. ,length), process features (e.g., emphasis on content; active learning; examination of student work; feedback; follow-up), a mediating variable (level of professional community generated), and four outcome measures (knowledge; practice; student learning and efficacy). Consistent significant direct effects were found across the four studies for the impact of content focus, active learning, and follow-up on knowledge and professional community. Feedback was rarely incorporated into program design. Impact on efficacy was strongly related to the perceived impact of activities on teachers' practice and student learning outcomes.

Purpose The impact of the modality used for local control of Ewing sarcoma is uncertain. We investigated the relationship between the type of local control modality, surgery, radiation (RT) or both (S + RT), and subsequent risk for local failure (LF) in patients with nonmetastatic pelvic Ewing sarcoma treated on INT-0091. Patients and Methods Patients ≤ 30 years with Ewing sarcoma, primitive neuroectodermal tumor or primitive sarcoma of bone were randomly assigned to receive chemotherapy with doxorubicin, vincristine, cyclophosphamide, and dactinomycin, (VACA) or with these four drugs alternating with ifosfamide and etoposide (VACA-IE). The local control modality, surgery, RT or both was chosen by the treating physicians. The effect of local control modality was assessed after adjusting for the size of tumor (< 8 cm, ≥ 8 cm) and chemotherapy type. Results Seventy-five patients with pelvic tumors and a median follow-up of 4.4 years (0.6 to 11.4 years) comprised the study population. Twelve underwent surgery, 44 received RT, and 19 received both. The 5-year event-free survival (EFS) and cumulative incidence of LF was 49% and 21% (16%, LF only; 5%, LF and distant failure). There was no significant difference in EFS or LF by tumor size (< 8 cm, ≥ 8 cm), local control (LC) modality, or chemotherapy. However, VACA-IE seems to confer an LC benefit (11% v 30%; P = .06). Conclusion There was no significant effect of local control modality (surgery, RT or S + RT) selected by the treating physicians on rates of local failure or EFS. However, VACA-IE improves LC (11%) compared with previously published results for pelvic Ewing sarcoma.

Abstract Introduction Ventricular arrhythmias from papillary muscles (PMs) often require extensive catheter ablation (CA). Not much is known about the mitral valve (MV) function after these extensive catheter ablations. Purpose The goal of this study was to determine the impact of papillary muscle CA on MV function. Methods We retrospectively examined echocardiographic measurements in 21 patients with frequent premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) originating from the mitral PMs who underwent CA, dating from October 2012 till November 2018. We assessed MV function at baseline, 6 month and last follow-up. Degree of mitral regurgitation (MR) was graded as mild (ERO <0,2 cm2, regurgitation volume (RV) <30ml), moderate (ERO 0,2-0,4cm2, RV 30-59ml) or severe (ERO ≥0,4cm2, RV ≥60ml). Significant MR was defined as a 2+ change. Results Mean age of the study population was 59,7 (27-80)years, 52,4% was female. 2 patients were known with ischemic heart disease. There was a family history of sudden cardiac death in 3 patients. Main symptoms at presentation were palpitations (66,7%), fatigue (33,3%), dyspnea (33,3%, all NYHA 2), dizziness (28,6%), angina pectoris (14,3%) and syncope (4,8%). Beta blocker (71,4%), flecaïnide (23,8%), amiodarone (9,5%), sotalol (4,8%) and propafenon (4,8%) were the most frequent medical therapies before CA. Mean burden of PVC before ablation was 15 574 (2000-39700)/24h. In 28,6% non sustained VT was documented, 1 patient suffered a sustained episode of VT. After ablation, mean burden of PVC was reduced to 1331 (0-14200)/24h. Redo ablation was necessary in 28,6% of patients. PVCs orginated from the anterolateral PM in 33,3% and from the posteromedial PM in 66,7%. Mean troponin release was 9.4 ± 5.3 µg/l, mean troponin hs (since 2016) was 1591.0 ±658.6ng/ml. CMR was done in 14/21 (66,7%) patients before CA. In 5 out of 14 patients (35,7%), delayed enhancement at the papillary muscles was noticed. In 5 patients without delayed enhancement, CMR was repeated after CA. In all these 5 patients, delayed enhancement was noticed at the level of the papillary muscles. At baseline, 15/21 had mild, 5/21 moderate and 1/21 severe MR. There was no significant chance in MR at 6m follow-up with 15/21 having mild and 6/21 moderate MR (p 0.58) with 1 patient having a significant MR 2+ change. At last follow-up (23.7 ± 22.6 months) there was also no significant chance in MR with 15/21 having mild and 6/21 moderate MR (p 0.58) without a significant MR 2+ change. Complications occurred in 1 patient (transient AV blok). No patients died during follow up. Conclusions Although PM ablation was associated with time extensive ablation, significant troponine release and documented delayed enhancement on post ablation MRI, there was no risk of additional valvular dysfunction after CA in this study. Larger studies will be necessary to confirm these findings.

In this chapter, the authors share their reflections on the practice of using a community-based approach to doing SoTL research. They examine two professional development programs at their respective institutions—York University and Humber College in Ontario, Canada—that support faculty members' engagement in SoTL research. EduCATE and the Teaching Innovation Fund are two variations of SoTL programs in which participants come together to engage in and support each other through the process of doing SoTL research and are organized around participants' individual goals rather than a predetermined set of outcomes. The authors provide a fulsome narrative and reflective account of the EduCATE and Teaching Innovation Fund programs with a particular focus on each program's development and relative success. Throughout, the impact of SoTL as a form of professional development is emphasized.

Abstract The aim of this study is to identify the impact of visual management on achieving a sustainable development from the point of view of the employees at Basheer Alseksak & his Partners’ Company. To reach to the wanted aim, the descriptive approach has been used. The study population consists of the (68) administrative workers at the company’s main branch at Gaza city. The researchers have used the comprehensive survey and a questionnaire as the tools of the study. Fifty (50) valid refunds have been recovered (73.5%). The results of the study have showed that there is a statistically significant effect between the visual management (the fixed variable, the strategy of developing the rules of working, the cleansing strategy / diagnosis) and the sustainable development. In addition, it has showed that the strategy of eliminating the waste has a weak effect, i.e., it does not affect the sustainable development. The study has firstly recommended the need to reduce the obstacles that impair the possibility of implementing the visual management strategies in the plant. This step would promote the sustainable development and progress in all areas. Secondly, the contribution at Arab programs to combat the poverty, reduce the level of unemployment, and enhance some employment opportunities at the community in coordination with the relevant parties. Finally, the development and enhancement of the participation in the community at the national and regional levels.
