The study aimed to identify the effects faced by radio from new technologies and applications that have been able to attract a lot of audience traditional media, especially radio. To achieve this goal descriptive approach used methods, a tactic survey the public media, using the tool questionnaire, and then applied on a random sample of the Jordanian public in order to stand on their attitudes towards the Internet and its applications on the effects of listening to the radio. The study proved that the Internet and its applications impacted adversely on listening to the radio, where the ratio came from listening to the Jordanian public 39% versus 61% for to the radio. The study showed that the most important reasons for the Jordanian public to listen to radio stations is to satisfy recreational, cultural and scientific desires, and love of the Jordanian public to some of the broadcasters who provide programs and radio stations will help to know what is going on from the events. The study showed that there is dissatisfaction by the Jordanian public about the programs offered by the radio, where he said that 55% of the study sample who listen to the radio. From these results will be achieved hypotheses and the study of the theory relied on by the study and followed the approach uses the theory. The study recommends the importance of working to improve the quality of programs offered by the radio and to the satisfaction of listeners, and to increase the broadcast hours of programs that attract public radio institutions. Reconnaissance work ray studies to the public periodically to learn about their needs and desires. Supplying radio institutions modern techniques that would maintain the audience, and supplement her human cadres qualified and capable of using communication technology and increased awareness among workers about the concept of communication technology to the technique of active impact on the performance of radio stations, and set up special centers set the media production enterprise quality media. The study recommends researchers to conduct further research and studies for the radio service and support for its survival in the media arena.

This article discusses the analysis, made by the analytical and comparative method, of the programming offer of public broadcasters in the implementation of missions in the era of cross-platform broadcasting of radio and television programs. The article contains an analysis of the genre structure of the programs of Telewizja Polska SA, Polish Radio SA and the regional radio stations of the public radio. Identifies the principles of construction of public media programs available on the Polish media market. Describes the components for evaluating the quality of public media through their programming offers. It points to the need to develop a high level of technical and technological content of public media offerings in new content distribution platforms - the Internet, mobile devices.

The founding of the Bell Telephone System, the public switched telephone network (PSTN), has evolved into a highly successful global telecommunications system. It is designed specifically for voice communications, and provides a high quality of service and ease of use. It is supported by sophisticated operations systems that ensure extremely high dependability and availability. Over the past 100 years, it has been a showcase for communications engineering and led to groundbreaking new technologies (e.g., transistors, fiber optics). Yet it is remarkable that many public carriers see their future in Internet protocol (IP) networks, namely the Internet. Of course, the Internet has also been highly successful, coinciding with the proliferation of personal computers. It has become ubiquitous for data applications such as the World Wide Web, e-mail, and peer-to-peer file sharing. While it is not surprising that the Internet is the future for data services, even voice services are transitioning to voice over Internet protocol (VoIP). This phenomenon bears closer examination, as a prime example explaining the success of the Internet as a universal communications platform. This chapter gives a historical development of the Internet and an overview of technical and nontechnical reasons for the convergence of services.

The advent of new technologies in organizations has created unprecedented challenges for professionals and managers alike to explore several cost-effective technology solutions aimed at improving communications among their target audiences. One such technology, which is gaining popularity, is streaming media. Streaming media has been around for approximately 10 years, but only now is becoming the fastest growing IT sector, with real revenues and a bright future (Alanko, 2004). Streaming media is a delivery technology that has great potential for enhancing the way people communicate and share information. The evolution of streaming media has made huge strides in the world of the Internet, from a medium which delivered unstable video streamed very slowly through inadequate networks, to one today that rivals the reach in some cases of small cable television channels and local market radio stations. The use of streaming media is becoming a mainstream communications tool in the public sector. It has the ability to enhance communications both internally and externally (i.e., important announcements, bulletins, community outreach, online learning, training, etc.). Many government departments have started offering live and archived Webcasting of numerous government meetings and programs via the Internet. Whereas outreach has previously been strictly limited to certain individuals, information is now being made available to a wider audience through the use of streaming media.

This epilogue comments on the changes within the Polish American community and the Polish-language press during the most recent decades, including the impact of the Internet and social media on the practice of letter-writing. It also poses questions about the legacy and memory of Paryski in Toledo, Ohio, and in Polonia scholarship. Paryski's life and career were based on his intelligence, determination, and energy. He believed that Poles in the United States, as in Poland, must benefit from education, and that education was not necessarily the same as formal schooling. Anybody could embark on the path to self-improvement if they read and wrote. Long before the Internet changed the way we communicate, Paryski and other ethnic editors effectively adopted and practiced the concept of debate within the public sphere in the media. Ameryka-Echo's “Corner for Everybody” was an embodiment of this concept and allowed all to express themselves in their own language and to write what was on their minds.

Since its early days, the Internet has been used by the music industry as a powerful marketing tool to promote artists and their products. Nevertheless, technology developments of the past ten years, and especially the ever-growing phenomenon of file sharing, have created the general impression that the Internet is responsible for a crisis within the industry, on the grounds that music piracy has become more serious than it has ever been. The purpose of this paper is to present the impact of new technologies and the Internet on the three main actors of the music industry: consumers, artists and record companies. It is claimed that the Internet has changed the way music is valued, and also, that it may have a direct effect on the quality of the music produced, as perceived by both artists and consumers alike.

This paper examines a five-year initiative by the UK's public service broadcaster, the BBC, to reinvigorate civic engagement at a time of declining public participation in politics. The Action Network project, originally called iCan, ran from 2003 to 2008 and was one of the most high profile and ambitious attempts by a public service broadcaster to foster eParticipation through an online civic commons. This study analyzes Action Network within the context of conceptualizations of the Internet as a networked, distributed and participatory environment and the shift towards what scholars describe as a networked public sphere. It suggests that the project did not have the impact anticipated as it was borne out of a paternalistic broadcast legacy, out of step with the trend towards distributed and collaborative discourse online that reassesses the notion that the public is simply a resource to be managed. This paper argues that the BBC experience provides lessons in how the media, and specifically public service broadcasters, can contribute towards greater political participation and democratic dialogue through the Internet by adopting Web 2.0 approaches that enable citizens to engage on different levels and at different times, depending on contexts.

ABSTRACT Over recent years, there have been numerous studies and papers on media coverage and subsequent politics of oil spills. However, there has been limited focus on how media can impact the effectiveness of a spill response. Using ITOPF's case study database, spanning 50 years of incidents, it has been consistently observed that, regardless of the quality of the cleanup strategy put in place, the media may affect the response both positively and negatively on the effectiveness of the clean-up response. This paper presents a framework, supported by case studies, for assessing the media impact on three aspects of a response: (1) the strategy; (2) the logistics; and (3) the claims/damage assessment. The media's influence on response strategy is visible throughout the preparedness, clean-up, and post spill phases of the incident. Impacts on logistics are focussed primarily on the involvement of the public in the clean-up itself, with some effects positively supporting the response, while others cause disruption; potentially impacting the safety of responders. As for claims and damage assessment aspects of a response, the impact of media can often be observed long after the initial reporting. This contrasts with the relatively immediate media effects on strategy and logistics. While it is sometimes too late to counteract perceptions of damage or claim inflation due to media coverage, numerous case studies have also demonstrated how pressure from the media increases the accountability of the stakeholders involved in the response and the level of awareness of compensation available to claimants. The objective of this paper is to provide a framework that is useful for responders to understand and prepare for the potential media influence on the effectiveness of a response.

ISSN 2300-391X. DOI: https://doi.org/10.14746/ikps.2018.22.04 Nowadays, the media education process begins at a very early stage of life and lasts throughout life. Older people are still in a worse position in this respect. In order to find a place in the information society, they have to master the IT and media skills and competences that allow not only to use new forms of education (e.g. e-learning, distance learning, blended learning), but also to an ever greater extent to handle everyday affairs. (e.g. making a payment, booking a ticket, settling a case at the office). The key role is played by education, computer and internet training and non-institutional support. Among the most frequently cited reasons for not using technology, researchers mention the lack of: motivation; access to media, the Internet; competence; awareness of how, for what use ICT can be used. The main obstacles in the dissemination of new technologies to the public are not hard barriers, like lack of infrastructure or financial constraints, but soft, related to the lack of: knowledge, conscious needs or skills.

This chapter examines the influence of media and public opinion on U.S. foreign policy and vice versa. It considers the extent to which the media and public have been manipulated by the government, and the extent to which public opinion and media have shaped foreign policy during tumultuous times such as the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001. It also explores the consequences of public opinion and media for U.S. power in the twenty-first century. The chapter describes pluralist and elite models of the public opinion/ media/foreign policy nexus, long with public and media diplomacy. It concludes with a discussion of the extent to which developments in communication technology have empowered U.S. public opinion and media, as well as the impact of this technology on global U.S. power and influence, in particular in the context of the current war on terror.

Fifteen years ago, a new file-sharing technology called Napster provided college students and adults alike with a novel way of engaging with both the Internet and popular music. In this paper, we examine how the media framed Napster for an audience that largely was not Internet savvy at a time when listening to music was still tied to physical media. We conducted a textual analysis of stories regarding Napster appearing in both the specialized music press and the general mainstream media. We found that the mainstream media devoted considerable coverage to Napster and the file-sharing issues surrounding it while the music press barely mentioned the technology. Multiple themes emerged, some familiar to our ongoing conversation regarding the impact of new technologies, that place Napster at the nexus of cultural struggles over technology and power.
