Scabies, a highly contagious parasitic skin infestation, is instigated by Sarcoptes scabiei mite. This study was performed to evaluate the clinical profile and quality of life in patients with scabies. 132 scabies patients of both genders were assessed using the revised Dermatology Life Quality Questionnaire (mDLQI) for scabies. The clinical features were also recorded. Clinical features of itching were seen in 104 patients, night aggravation in 86 and skin lesion in 78 patients. Family history was present in 80 patients, past history in 28 and secondary infection in 30 patients. The difference was significant (P< 0.05). 65% subjects reported not feeling embarrassed, in 63% school work was not at all affected, in 70% playing was not at all affected, 81% were not at all experiencing teasing and in 88% friendship was not at all affected. The difference was significant (P< 0.05). Quality of life was affected in scabies patients. Common clinical features were itching, night aggravation and skin lesions

Introduction: Post infectious glomerulonephritis (PIGN) is one of the common paediatric kidney disease in developing countries. This study was undertaken to describe the common clinical features, biochemical findings and complications in children with PIGN. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective descriptive study in which 30 patients admitted with a diagnosis of PIGN at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in a six month period (July 2014 to Dec 2014) were included. Hospital medical records were reviewed for the data collection. Results: Out of 30 patients, 24 (80%) were between 5 to 15 years of age (mean age of 11.5±3.3) with male to female ratio of 2.3:1. Pedal oedema and hypertension were the clinical features seen in 29 (97%) and 28 (93%) patients respectively. Hypocomplementemia was found in 29 (97%) patients. Recent past history of sore throat seen in 10 (33%) patients and skin lesions in 12 (40%). The complications noted were congestive cardiac failure in 5 (17%) patients, rapidly proliferative glomerulonephritis in 3 (10%) and encephalopathy in 1(3%). Conclusion: The most important clinical and biochemical profile observed in nepalese children with PIGN are the hypertension, pedal edema and hypocomplementemia. AbstractIntroduction. Scabies is a highly contagious parasitic skin infestation caused by Sarcoptesscabiei mite causing social stigma in patients owing to skin lesions over the exposed body-parts. The present study was aimed at assessing the quality of life in scabies patients. Material and Methods. This non-interventional and cross section study included a total of a hundred newly diagnosed scabies cases above 5 years of age. The patients were given the questionnaire on the life quality affected by their disease and a detailed analysis was done afterwards. Results. Out of a hundred patients, 52% were females. The age group 21-40 years was most affected: 25.7% of adult patients had moderate effect while 55.9% of children suffered no effect on their quality of life. Conclusion. Scabies moderately affected the quality of life of the patients in the present study in the form of feeling of embarrassment, stigmata and shame associated with disease.

Background: Diabetes is a chronic non-communicable disease with variable presentation and complications. It is well known that over a period of time complications sets in and causes substantial decrease in the patient’s quality of life (QoL). QoL domains plays and important factor in prediction of outcome of diabetic treatment. Hence this study was conducted with the objectives to find the difference in quality of life (QoL) domains in diabetics on oral hypoglycaemic agents and Insulin. Methods: Longitudinal Study was undertaken in tertiary care centre, for duration of 6 months. Type 2 Diabetics on treatment with oral hypoglycemics and Insulin were included in the study. Socio - demographic profile, laboratory investigations were collected using structured and pretested questionnaire. Quality of life was assessed by WHOQOL-BREF. SPSS 22 version, EPI Info and Open EPI software were used for Statistical analysis. Chi-square and Students t-test were the statistical tests. Results: 59 diabetic subjects were included in Oral and insulin group respectively. Mean age of oral hypoglycemics was 59.6±8.7 years and Insulin group was 61.4±8.2 years. Age and gender were matched between two groups. Glycemic profile was significantly higher in Oral group than in Insulin group. Physical domain was significantly higher (better) in oral group than in Insulin group. Psychological and Social domain was significantly higher (better) in Insulin group. Hence QoL is affected by type of hypoglycaemic agent used among diabetics. Conclusions: Quality of life with respect to physical domain was reduced in Insulin group, were as psychological and social domain was reduced in Oral group.

Background: Psoriasis is a chronic disorder with the most common manifestation being the plaque-type. Nearly 20% of the plaque type suffer from a disease of moderate to severe intensity with immense effect on the quality of life. Aim was to study the clinical, socio-economic and demographic characteristics of patients with moderate to severe plaque type of psoriasis.

Methods: This was an observational study conducted in about fourty patients diagnosed with moderate to severe plaque type of psoriasis based upon the clinical history, morphology of the lesions and assessed using psoriasis area and severity index (PASI), dermatology life quality index (DLQI) scoring and for comorbidities. Data was compiled and analyzed with statistical package for social science (SPSS) Version 20.0.

Results: Mean age was 37.43±10.1 years. 22 were males (55%) and 18 were females (45%). The mean duration was 8.93 years and 15% had family history. The mean age of onset was earlier in the females (20.23 years) with a positive family history, as compared to males (25.36 years). About 62.5% had moderate psoriasis and 37.5% had severe psoriasis. At the baseline the PASI score was 31.98±6.08 and DLQI score was 36. About 67.5% had nail changes and 10% had psoriatic arthritis. Almost in half (47.5%) the duration of the disease was 1 to 5 years and scalp (32.5%) the most common initial site of involvement. Various comorbidities were documented, 72% in moderate psoriasis and 73.33% in severe psoriasis with dyslipidemia (67.5%) being commonest.

Conclusions: Patients with moderate to severe psoriasis mostly have a low quality of life with multiple significant co-morbidities that increases the risk for morbidity and mortality.

Background: Ocular trauma is a major cause of preventable visual impairment and blindness leading to permanent loss of vision and deterioration of quality of life. 90% of the injuries are preventable. Aim of the current study was to study the clinical profile of patients with ocular trauma at a tertiary care hospital in Southern Rajasthan. Current study was a cross- sectional, observational study was conducted at Geetanjali medical college and hospital, Udaipur. Methods: After taking a well-informed consent a generalized detailed history of 108 cases (123 injured eyes) was obtained. Assessment of best corrected visual acuity, near vision, intraocular pressure, slit-lamp evaluation and dilated fundus examination was carried out. Then injury was classified as per BETTS classification. Patients with corneal foreign bodies and chemical injuries were recorded separately. Imaging modalities like ultrasound B-scan, CT-scan and MRI were employed wherever required. Results: Number of males (98) was much higher than females (9) in our study. Male: female ratio was found to be 10.8:1. The most commonly affected age group was 21-30 years, this highlights the alarmingly high incidence of ocular injuries in economically active young males. Farming is the primary occupation across India, hence it deserves a special mention. 22% of injury cases in our study were farm- work related injuries. Farmers need to be educated and provided eye protective equipment during high-risk activities. Laws regarding agricultural code of practice should be implemented and followed. Conclusions: In our study, not a single case out of 108 had used eye protection at the time of injury. Every effort should be made to create awareness regarding use of safety measures during driving and engaging in high-risk occupations. This will help prevent sight-threatening complications of ocular trauma and the deleterious impact on quality of life.
