Congestion and complexity in the field of highway transportation have risen steadily in recent years, particularly because the growth rate of vehicles has far outpaced the growth rate of roads and other transportation facilities. To ensure smooth traffic, reduce traffic congestion, improve road safety, and reduce the negative impact of air pollution on the environment, an increasing number of traffic management departments are turning to new scientifically developed technology. The urban road traffic is simulated by nodes and sidelines in this study, which is combined with graph theory, and the information of real-time changes of road traffic is added to display and calculate the relevant data and parameters in the road. On this foundation, the dynamic path optimization algorithm model is discussed in the context of high informationization. Although the improved algorithm’s optimal path may not be the conventional shortest path, its actual travel time is the shortest, which is more in line with users’ actual travel needs to a large extent.

Abstract. Traffic is a vital for land transport that connects various locations and even large cities. As civilization and population grew, traffic became more congested and resulted in congestion, a problem that can not be avoided. One solution that has been carried out by the government to overcome this problem is by applying traffic management and methods. Nevertheless, the right method without careful planning can cause nonoptimal results, besides the amount of expenditure spent in the form of costs, time, thoughts, and energy. In this study, researchers compile a traffic simulator system called "LINTAS" which serves as a tool to solve traffic congestion problems. Various methods and management designs, before they are actually implemented on the highway, can be simulated first through the LINTAS system. The benefit of LINTAS system is to test and simulate traffic conditions based on a particular method or management design. Through this simulation, the most appropriate traffic management method is expected to be found to overcome traffic congestion problem. The LINTAS simulator is compiled using the SimEvents toolbox and runs on the MATLAB-Simulink software. The LINTAS system simulation method is made based on Mathematics, specifically the Queuing Theory.

Tourism sector has a significant role in the economic development of our country. Tourism sector has contributed 6.88 percent to the GDP and has 12.36 percent share in employment (direct and indirect) in the year 2014. It has also a significant share in foreign exchange earnings. The benefit of tourism mostly goes to the local community (Sonya & Jacqueline, Mansour E. Zaei & Mahin E. Zaei, 2013). In this paper, an attempt has been made to assess how the tourism industry has created an opportunity for the economic, political, social and cultural development of the local community at Manali in Himachal Pradesh (India) and also tried to study the problems that are associated with the tourism in the region. The study found that the tourism industry has been extending its contribution for the development of local community at Manali. It has been providing employment, business and investment opportunities, revenue generation for the government, encouraging the community to promote and preserve its art, culture and heritage, raising the demand of agriculture products, provided opportunities for local people to run and work in the transport business and by promoting MSMEs in the region. Besides the opportunities, the tourism industry has also added many problems to the local community. Traffic congestion, increase in water and air pollution, solid waste generation, degradation of the cultural heritage, ecological imbalances, rise in cost of living, increase in crime, noise and environment pollution, migration of people to the region, negative impact on local culture, and extra pressure on civic services during the tourists season, are the problems associated with the tourism. The study suggest that effective management of natural resources, dissemination of environment protection information, involvement of local community in decision making, professionalization in the working of local administration, extending the support of government in sponsoring the events, infrastructure development, tracking records of migrants with the help of local community to curb the crime rate, promotion and preservation of art, culture and heritage, involvement of NGOs, compliance of the rules can make tourism more beneficial in the development of local community.

Traffic congestion has a significant impact on quality of life and the economy. This paper presents a decentralised traffic management mechanism for intersections using a distributed constraint optimisation approach (DCOP). Our solution outperforms the state of the art solution both for stable traffic conditions (about 60% reduced waiting time) and robustness to unpredictable events.

Truck flow plays a vital role in urban traffic congestion and has a significant influence on cities. In this study, we develop a novel model for solving regional logistics network (RLN) design problems considering the traffic status of the background transportation network. The models determine not only the facility location, initial distribution planning, roadway construction, and expansion decisions but also offer an optimal solution to the logistics network service level and truck-type selections. We first analyze the relationship between the urban transportation network and the RLN design problem using real truck data and traffic flow status in a typical city. Then, we develop the uncover degree function (UDF), which reflects the service degree of the RLN and formulates based on an impedance function. Subsequently, the integrated logistics network design models are proposed. We model the RLN design problem as a minimal cost problem and design double-layer Lagrangian relaxation heuristics algorithms to solve the model problems. Through experiments with data from the six-node problem and Sioux-Falls network, the effectiveness of the models and algorithms is verified. This study contributes to the planning of regional logistics networks while mitigating traffic congestion caused by truck flow.

Travel time is an important characteristic of traffic conditions in a road network. Up-to-date travel time information is important in dynamic traffic management. Presented are the findings of a recently completed research and evaluation program called DACCORD, regarding the evaluation of tools for online estimation and prediction of travel times by using induction loop detector data. Many methods exist with which to estimate and predict travel time by using induction loop data. Several of these methods were implemented and evaluated in three test sites in France, Italy, and the Netherlands. Both cross-tool and cross-site evaluations have been carried out. Travel time estimators based on induction loop detectors were evaluated against observed travel times and were seen to be reasonably accurate (10 percent to 15 percent root mean square error proportional) across different sites for uncongested to lightly congested traffic conditions. The evaluation period varied by site from 4 to 30 days. Results were seen to diverge at higher congestion levels: at one test site, congestion levels were seen to have a strong negative impact on estimation accuracy; at another test site, accuracy was maintained even in congested conditions.

Traffic congestion index reflects the state of traffic flow. The detection and analysis on traffic congestion index can be used to estimate the operation status of roads, to plan and organize road traffic for traffic managers, and to make the reasonable decisions of travelers to travel. The traffic conditions of several evaluation indexes were analyzed. Based on the theory of fuzzy mathematics, some membership functions of the evaluating indexes were designed. Three calculation methods of traffic congestion index were proposed. Their calculation results were compared mutually. The conclusion revealed that using saturation calculated by the corresponding service level of traffic congestion index not well reflect the traffic situation, what’s more, travel speed is used to calculate the congestion index of the first method. Using comprehensive parameters can calculate the congestion index of the third method. Both them are roughly similar and in line with the actual traffic phenomenon.

The population is increasing rapidly, due to which the number of vehicles has increased, but the transportation system has not yet developed as development occurred in technologies. Currently, the lowest capacity and old infrastructure of roads do not support the amount of vehicles flow which cause traffic congestion. The purpose of this survey is to present the literature and propose such a realistic traffic efficiency model to collect vehicular traffic data without roadside sensor deployment and manage traffic dynamically. Today’s urban traffic congestion is one of the core problems to be solved by such a traffic management scheme. Due to traffic congestion, static control systems may stop emergency vehicles during congestion. In daily routine, there are two-time slots in which the traffic is at peak level, which causes traffic congestion to occur in an urban transportation environment. Traffic congestion mostly occurs in peak hours from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. when people go to offices and students go to educational institutes and when they come back home from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The main purpose of this survey is to provide a taxonomy of different traffic management schemes for avoiding traffic congestion. The available literature categorized and classified traffic congestion in urban areas by devising a taxonomy based on the model type, sensor technology, data gathering techniques, selected road infrastructure, traffic flow model, and result verification approaches. Consider the existing urban traffic management schemes to avoid congestion and to provide an alternate path, and lay the foundation for further research based on the IoT using a Mobile crowd sensing-based traffic congestion control model. Mobile crowdsensing has attracted increasing attention in traffic prediction. In mobile crowdsensing, the vehicular traffic data are collected at a very low cost without any special sensor network infrastructure deployment. Mobile crowdsensing is very popular because it can transmit information faster, collect vehicle traffic data at a very low cost by using motorists’ smartphone or GPS vehicular embedded sensor, and it is easy to install, requires no special network deployment, has less maintenance, is compact, and is cheaper compared to other network options.

Now a days, toll plazas at the highways are operated manually, where a vehicle comes near the toll booth and toll collector collects the cash and enter the vehicle data and provides a receipt. Manually operated Toll Plaza Systems leads to longer waiting time of vehicles and heavy traffic at the highways. To overcome this issue of traffic congestion and time management and to bring automation in the toll management system, we have introduced an innovative, optimized and revolutionary system. This paper is putting forward an efficient and cost-effective technique of automatic toll collection. The system is based on the mobile GPS network and will use various APIs for development. The cost to be paid at the toll gate is auto decided as per the government limits and the toll booth charges. System will use online payment gateways to collect those revenues. If the balance is low in the user’s account then it can be recharged at the booth itself. At the user’s end, If the toll tax payment is delayed by certain timeline then user will be informed by an alert message and if delay still exists then strict actions will be imposed along with proper penalty charges for the same. This system is the novelty to the existing toll system. It will have a wide impact on people's life as its scope will lead to safe and enhanced productivity through the use of advanced technologies. This will also minimize fraud and will provide user convenience. It will also enhance the operational efficiency of toll collector.
