Talking STS is a collection of interviews and accompanying reflections on the origins, the present and the future of the field referred to as Science and Technology Studies or Science, Technology and Society (STS). The volume assembles the thoughts and recollections of some of the leading figures in the making of this field. The occasion for producing the collection has been the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the University of Edinburgh’s Science Studies Unit (SSU). The Unit’s place in the history of STS is consequently a recurring theme of the volume. However, the interviews assembled here have a broader purpose – to present interviewees’ situated and idiosyncratic experiences and perspectives on STS, going beyond the contributions made to it by any one individual, department or institution. Both individually and collectively, these conversations provide autobiographically informed insights on STS. Together with the reflections, they prompt further discussion, reflection and questioning about this constantly evolving field.

Islamic banking has become a global phenomenon as both Islamic and western countries have embraced it. However, the move by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to introduce Islamic Banking in Nigeria was met with many criticisms, especially from the Non-Muslims. As a divorce from subjective criticisms typical of religious opponents’ discussions, the study examined the viability of Islamic banking in Nigeria using market segmentation criteria. Being a library research, secondary data was obtained from various secondary sources and analyzed descriptively. The study found that, the targeted Muslim segment is substantial, identifiable, measurable, accessible and reliable. Hence, the study concludes that the introduction of Islamic banking in Nigeria is worthwhile and the future of Islamic banks in the country is bright and prosperous. The study, therefore, recommends that though Islamic banking has come to stay, Muslims and non-Muslims should support its establishment as all citizens irrespective of religious affiliation are likely to benefit from it.

Legal politics examines changes within present law due to consistent demands and needs of people. Legal politics continue to develop the rule of law, from the Ius Constitutum, which is based on the previous legal framework, to the formulation of the law in the future, the Ius Constituendum. The Indonesian 2019 draft of Criminal Code formulates customary sanctions as the fulfillment of customary obligations in several articles. These articles provide a new paradigm of criminal law policy to formulate criminal law reform in the future for customary sanctions in cases of customary crimes. The study used normative juridical or library research on normative legal substances. It aims to reveal the truth based on scientific logic from the normative side by examining library materials or secondary data consisting of primary and secondary legal materials. The results show that the fulfillment of customary obligations can be expected to become criteria or signs/guidelines for judges to determine “law that lives in society” or “The Living Law” as a source of law (material legality) in the future. It is a form of new paradigm in the renewal of customary criminal law. Thus, customary (criminal) law can become (1) a positive source of law, in the sense that customary criminal law (sanctions) can be the legal basis to examine cases at the Court; and (2) negative sources of law, in the sense that the provisions of customary criminal law (sanctions) can be justified reasons, reasons for mitigating punishment or providing more severe punishment.

This study aims to determine the process of determining and pricing mechanisms in the thought of the figure of Ibn Khaldun. This research uses the Library Research method which is one type of qualitative research using the socio historical and historical factual approaches. The data source of this study consisted of primary data and secondary data. While the data analysis used in this study is descriptive analytic. The results showed that sociologically Ibn Khaldun had revealed the process of price formation clearly. According to him, naturally the formation of prices is determined by the role of market mechanisms through a balance between demand and supply in the market. The meeting between the demand and supply factors in the market will form the balance of natural market prices. The existence of government intervention on the market shows that there is a contraction between social economic conditions in determining prices. Besides hisbah is also authorized to maintain the moral and social life of the social community. With hisbah, it is expected that the market mechanism can run normally and the prices formed reflect aspects of justice for market participants.
