Nutritional status is an important matter that needs to be paid attention during preschool. Malnutrition during this period will cause irreversible damage which cannot be recovered as an adult. The role of mothers in fulfilling the nutritional status of preschoolers is essential. Maternal perceptions influence the intentions and behavior of mothers in the nutritional needs of preschool children. This study aims to determine the effect of maternal perceptions on the development of children’s nutritional status at preschool age. This research was conducted at Slendro 1 Kindergarten, Slendro 2 Kindergarten, and Slendro Village PAUD Post, Gesi District, Sragen Regency (Central Java, Indonesia). The research used descriptive correlational design with cross-sectional approach. A total of 61 female student guardians who have preschool age children were used as samples. This study utilized two variables, namely maternal perception (support and barrier) as the independent variable and the nutritional status of preschool children as the dependent variable. The data were collected using a questionnaire and anthropometric measurements (BW/BH), then the data were analyzed using the Sperman Rho test (α ≤ 0.05). The results show that 59% of mothers had high perceptions and 41% of mothers had low perceptions of the nutritional status of preschool children. Statistical test results show that there is a significant relationship (ρ = 0.029) with a correlation coefficient (r = 0.280) between maternal perceptions and the nutritional status of children at preschool age. Perception has a huge influence on a mother’s intention in improving the nutritional status of a child. A positive maternal perception of the fulfillment of a child’s nutritional needs at preschool age can improve a child’s nutritional status.

<p>Maintaining optimal maternal nutrition is essential for the mother’s health and the child’s growth and development. Throughout the lactating period, maternal nutrition is significant due to the child’s high nutritional needs. Therefore, an increase in food consumption is necessary. This research aimed to analyze the dietary intake and nutritional status of lactating and non-lactating women living in rice-producing areas in Central Java, Indonesia. A cross-sectional study was conducted from December 2014 to February 2015 in Demak Regency. As many as 375 participants were recruited and analyzed in this study. The results showed that the mean BMI-score of non-lactating mothers was higher than that of breastfeeding mothers (p=0.039). However, the nutritional status between the two groups of women was not significantly different. Significantly more lactating women consumed dark green leafy-colored vegetables (68.8%) and other vegetables (59.2%) than the non-lactating mothers (54.4%, p=0.065 and 36.8%, p=0.001, respectively). Regarding the selected macro and micronutrient intakes, statistically significant differences between the two groups of women could not be proven. In short, dietary intake between women within the different physiological statuses and BMI categories showed that they consumed around the same amount of macro-and micronutrient intakes and food groups, except for the high vegetable consumption among lactating women.</p>

Abstract Objectives To test whether an intervention that was shown previously to have improved food security, dietary intake of adults, and HIV health outcomes also improved dietary intake and nutritional status of children living in HIV-affected households. Methods The study was conducted in the Nyanza Region, Kenya where two health facilities were randomly assigned as intervention or control arms. The intervention included a human-powered water pump, a microfinance loan to purchase farm commodities, and training in sustainable farming practices and financial management. One hundred children (6 to 60 months of age) were enrolled in each arm from households with HIV-infected adults 18 to 49 years old on antiretroviral therapy and with access to surface water and land. Children were assessed beginning in April 2012 and every three months for one year. Data were collected on dietary intake, height, weight, and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC). The difference in differences from first visit and in linear trends over visits were tested using fixed-effects regression models. Results Compared to the control arm, children in the intervention arm had a larger increase in weight at the 12-month visit (β: 0.42, 95% CI: 0.08, 0.76) and increase in MUAC at the 6-month visit (β: 0.28, 95% CI: 0.08, 0.49), with no difference in changes in height over time. Compared to the control arm, the intervention arm had a larger increasing linear trend over time in intake of staples (β: 0.22, 95% CI: 0.02, 0.44), fruits and vegetables (β: 0.42, 95% CI: 0.10, 0.75), and meat (β: 0.07, 95% CI: 0.03, 0.12), and a larger decreasing linear trend in intake of condiments (β: -0.16, 95% CI: -0.23, -0.09) and tea (β: -0.12, 95% CI: -0.19, -0.05), with no differences in intake of eggs, dairy and fat over time. Conclusions This intervention that improved food security, dietary intake, and HIV health outcomes of HIV-infected adults also improved dietary intake and nutritional status of children living in those households. Multisectoral agricultural and financial interventions have the potential to improve the nutritional status of HIV-affected children in rural Kenya and should be further explored. <span>Malnutrition has an interrelated relationship with infectious diseases, where infection can occur malnutrition and can cause malnutrition in children. Children who infected with CMV need an increase in nutritional status, but with malnutrition, the recovery process and the body's immune enhancement cannot be optimal. This study aimed to identify the efforts to improve the nutritional status of children infected with CMV in Tegal, Central Java, Indonesia. This study was a qualitative study with phenomenological approach. The informants were parents or caregivers of the children infected with CMV. Data obtained through interviews and observations, which then analyzed through the stages of data reduction-presentation-drawing conclusions. Data were analyzed using triangulation methods. The results showed that the nutritional status of children after recovery of CMV infection had increased. That was because the informant always ensures nutrients needed even given using a soft texture and gradually increase to rough. The tendency of informants to provide the same food has the risk of increasing the deficiency of micronutrients in children. Therefore we need an effort to improve the provision of food variations in children.</span>
