The main objective of the article is to describe the basics of using data on the activity/passivity of social network users and gadget owners, as well as related challenges. Using the method of content analysis, we consider the profile in the social network as the profile of the identity of the owner. Through the prism of presence/absence of information, we can assume who is this or that user. Based on various criteria, we can determine to which category a particular user can be attributed. We consider the profile in the network as a place of confession for the user, and the gadget considered as “prosthesis” that everyone needs to achieve their goals. Therefore, the person and the gadget are considered holistic. We provide information on the development of the OCEAN method, which allows us to «measure» the human psyche based on auto-expression on a social network. We present examples of using users data by Cambridge Analytics for political purposes, such as the 2016 presidential election in the USA, Brexit, and examples showing global data collection, high data representativeness, automating data collection processes, processing information from social network users and their profiling. To demonstrate the level of representativeness of the data, we compared the number of Facebook users in the USA with a population of this country. For comparison purpose, we also analyzed the statistics of users of the Android system. Based on the methods of induction and deduction, as a result, we presented the problems associated with the use of information of gadgets owners (identity theft, using data for manipulation (political and consumer) purpose, threats to democratic elections and the loss of subjectivity in the decision-making process). We also noted the trend (disappointment of people who understand the situation in the political system as a whole), which will develop as a reaction to these processes. As a conclusion, we propose solutions that can reduce negative processes (improving legislation at the international and national level, promoting awareness). The significance of this study for science and society is to clarify the problems associated with big data, which often remain outside the scope of discussion.

The paper maps quantum computing research on various publication and citation indicators, using data from Scopus database covering 10-year period 2007-16. Quantum computing research cumulated 4703 publications in 10 years, registered a slow 3.39% growth per annum, and averaged 14.30 citations per paper during the period. Top 10 countries dominate the field with 93.15% global publications share. The USA accounted for the highest 29.98% during the period. Australia tops in relative citation index (2.0).  International collaboration has been a major driver of research in the subject; 14.10% to 62.64% of national level output of top 10 countries appeared as international collaborative publications. Computer Science is one of the most popular areas of research in quantum computing research. The study identifies top 30 most productive organizations and authors, top 20 journals reporting quantum computing research, and 124 highly cited papers with 100+ citations per paper.

Abstract We analyze the causal effect of retirement on individual social relationships using data from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe. We find that retirement changes the composition of the individual’s social network, inducing a substitution between weak (friends or colleagues) and strong ties (family), along with an increase in the intensity of the surviving ties, and there is no effect on the network’s size. These changes in the social network’s composition are associated with a higher satisfaction and stronger relationships. Interestingly, females reduce the share of friends while males that of colleagues.

In online social network’s phony account detection is one of the major task among the ability of genuine user from forged user account. The fundamental objective of detection of phony account framework is to detect fake account and removal technique in Social network user sites. This work concentrates on detection of phony account in which it depends on normal basis framework, transformative Algorithms and fuzzy technique. Initially, the most essential attributes including personal attributes, comparability techniques and various real user review, tweets, or comments are extricated. A direct blend of these attributes demonstrates the significance of each reviews tweets comments etc. To compute closeness measure, a consolidated strategy in view of artificial honey bee state Algorithm and fuzzy technique are utilized. Second approach is proposed to alter the best weights of the normal user attributes utilizing the social network activities/transaction and inherited Algorithm. Finally, a normal rank rationale framework is utilized to calculate the final scoring of normal user activities. The decision making of proposed approach to find phony account are variation with existing techniques user behavioral analysis using data sets and machine learning techniques such as crowdflower_sample and genuine_accounts_sample dataset of facebook and Twitter. The outcomes demonstrate that proposed strategy overcomes the previously mentioned strategies.

Social media are based on computer-mediated technologies that smooth the progress of the creation and distribution of information, thoughts, idea, career benefits and other forms of expression via implicit communities and networks. The social network analysis (SNA) has emerged with the increasing popularity of social networking services like Facebook, Twitter, etc. Therefore, information about group cohesion, contribution in activities, and associations among subjects can be obtained from the analysis of the blogs. The analysis of the blogs required well-known knowledge discovery tools to help the administrator to discover participant collaborative activities or patterns with inferences to improve the learning and sharing process. Therefore, the goal of this chapter is to provide the data mining tools for information retrieval, statistical modelling and machine learning to employ data pre-processing, data analysis, and data interpretation processes to support the use of social network analysis (SNA) to improve the collaborative activities for better performance.

Background: Social network research has become central to studies of health and aging. Its results may yield public health insights that are actionable and improve the quality of life of older adults. However, little is known about the social networks of older immigrant adults, whose social relationships often develop in the context of migration, compounded by cultural and linguistic barriers. Objectives: This report aims to describe the structure, composition, and emotional components of social networks in the Chinese aging population of the USA, and to explore ways in which their social networks may be critical to their health decision-making. Methods: Our data come from the PINE study, a population-based epidemiological study of community-dwelling older Chinese American adults, aged 60 years and above, in the greater Chicago area. We conducted individual interviews in participants' homes from 2011 until 2013. Based on sociodemographic and socioeconomic characteristics, this study computed descriptive statistics and trend tests for the social network measures adapted from the National Social Life, Health, and Aging Project study. Results: The findings show that older Chinese adults have a relatively small social network in comparison with their counterparts from other ethnic and racial backgrounds. Only 29.6% of the participants could name 5 close network members, and 2.2% could name 0 members. Their network composition was more heavily kin oriented (95.0%). Relationships with network members differed according to the older adults' sociodemographic and socioeconomic characteristics. Subgroup variations included the likelihood of discussing health-related issues with network members. Conclusion: This study highlights the dynamic nature of social networks in later-life Chinese immigrants. For healthcare practitioners, developing cost-effective strategies that can mobilize social network support remains a critical undertaking in health intervention. Longitudinal studies are needed to examine the causal impact of social networks on various domains of health.

This study investigated the social status (i.e., popularity, likeability, and friendships) of adolescents with an early onset of externalizing behavior (i.e., alcohol use, tobacco use, and antisocial behavior). Building on Moffitt’s dual-taxonomy model, it was hypothesized that early onset adolescents were more popular, but not necessarily more liked or with more friends. Hypotheses were tested using data from the Social Network Analysis of Risk Behaviors in Early Adolescence (SNARE) study ( N = 1,100, 50% boys, [Formula: see text]age = 12.7, SD = 0.47 years). Findings indicated that adolescents with an early onset of one or more externalizing behaviors were more popular, less liked, and had as many friends as their peers. These findings suggest that early onset adolescents potentially function as role models.
