ABSTRACT The design and development of chess set products into a part of the development of design in the business world, especially children's games. But the current chess sets are less varied. Generally chess set that there is only a royal and has a black and white color without any introduction of Indonesian culture, especially batik East Kalimantan. The current chess set also rarely has good storage so chess storage is not neatly arranged when the game is over. With this in mind, a designer tries to create a better item with new innovations. Like designing a chess set that is easily understood by children, designing a chess set that can introduce East Kalimantan batik culture especially Dayak Kenyah batik, and designing chess sets that have aesthetic value. In this report with the title "Set chess for children with batik motif east kalimantan" gives a new alternative in the development of furniture design especially chess sets. With the design methods that have been done include: data collection analysis, design alterrnatif, design development of selected alternatives, and final design. So produced chess set design for children who have a modern minimalist design style. Keywords: Set, Chess, For, Children, Motif, Batik, East, Borneo

This conceptual framework uses bagasse as potential material for furniture design application. Bagasse has been used as an industrial material manufacturing process, some information detected in furniture manufacturing literature. Aims, to identify bagasse in the form of biocomposite material that able used in furniture application. This research was undertaken, where research methods were developed and the material was tested, documented and analysed to inform this biocomposite in furniture design development process. The objective provided new knowledge on bagasse as potential material for furniture design application. This paper acts as material processing outlines and provides preliminary evaluation for final phase results.    Keywords: Conceptual framework; material process; bagasse; furniture design.    eISSN: 2398-4287 © 2020. Rice is a staple food source and therefore widely planted by farmers. Straw is a residual waste of rice harvests which has not been utilized optimally. This residual waste can be used in semi-finished products and finished products, especially crafts and furniture for the export market. This study considers the use of waste straw for the needs of the handicraft industry and mining. The second objective is furniture and craft design innovation using a straw. Experiments were carried out by twisting straw so that it becomes a certain diameter and length. The upland variety of slegereng red rice straw was the research object owing to its greater length and hgher strength than other types. Data was derived from literature and informants, and evaluated using interactive analysis models, including data reduction, data display and data verification. The study demonstrates that waste straw can be used in furniture and craft product design innovations. The application is on chairs, tables, stools, tissue boxes, table lamps, frames and so on. Keywords: Straw, design, furniture

The purpose of the article is to identify general trends in the development of furniture design at the end of the 20th beginning – XXI century, to determine and form an objective complex scientific view, of the development of the design of the subject environment of this period. The methodology consists in the application of theoretical and empirical methods: comparative historical and objective-aspect analysis made it possible to determine the specifics of innovations in order to identify trends in the development of furniture design in the specified period; the problem-target method came in handy in the study and analysis of literary materials. Scientific novelty. In the study, for the first time, a comprehensive definition of the main signs of the formation and identification of the formulated main trends in the development of furniture design and the formation of the internal subject environment of the late XX beginning was applied XXI century. Conclusions. The results obtained allow us to identify the characteristic features of the form of creating furniture for interiors of the specified period, contribute to the establishment of an objective view of the historical development of this process, the growth of its scientific and theoretical significance in the conditions of the current industrial production in Ukraine. The theoretical aspects of the research can be further used in writing scientific papers on this topic, developing lecture courses on the history of furniture and interior design, creating special courses and special seminars for students of higher educational institutions, textbooks, manuals, and other educational and methodological literature. Key words: design, furniture, internal environment, trends in shaping, the end of the XX – beginning of the XXI century.

<p>Wooden furniture is a cultural product that evolved hundred years ago in Indonesia. There are many types of wood species with high quality grow in Indonesia. In the 21st century, the level of demands for furniture is getting higher, and affecting the availability of the amount of wood. These conditions encourage furniture industry to seek for a wide variety of solid wood, processed wood and wood waste. Wood furniture has a role in the dynamic cultural development of Java Island, Indonesia, from the aspect of spiritual, philosophical, aesthetic and economic. This study aims to describe the transition in social and cultural values that occur in the use of wood materials in furniture, especially in Java. The transition will be described through the eyes of Material Cultural Studies, to show ecological aspects as a new aesthetic value. The method of data analysis is done through a diachronic viewpoint, by dividing the viewpoints into three time dimensions, i.e., the interpolation dimension (the past), the present time and the extrapolation dimension (the future). The interpolation and extrapolation dimensions are the approaches to analyze a set of data. Social culture phenomenon, development of trend technologies, and availability of wooden resources influence the transition of furniture value. Relation between availability of wooden resources have impact on design development. The result of this research are aspects of ecological needed on furniture design and the supporting variables. Therefore, concept of sustainable furniture design in Indonesia would be seen as an opportunity to maintain the continuity of wood.</p>

Taiwan has an abundance of the environmentally-friendly resource bamboo, as well as long-standing Chinese bamboo customs and culture. As a result, modest bamboo furniture accompanies the simple life of Taiwan’s residents. However, as people prosper, consumers are beginning to choose bamboo furniture for its decorative design and style more than for its practicality. Therefore, the symbolic application of decorative art is worthy of research and discussion. The purpose of this research is to use codes to explore the decorative design of bamboo tube furniture and enlighten Taiwan’s new direction of bamboo furniture design in the future. Through literature content analysis, field expert interviews, and practical experience participation methods, in addition to using function codes, emotion codes, transmission codes, and identification codes to interpret the Han Dynasty’s Liushu and Chinese bamboo cultural content, we verify the relevance of the code and bamboo furniture decoration and provide interactive new thinking and creative products.

This article presents an environmentally friendly furniture design guideline which comes from different socio-economic conditions, including personality and physical residence of consumers in Thailand, and is a test for the perception of environmentally friendly furniture style, in order to find the style of environmentally friendly furniture in consumers with different economic backgrounds and perception of the environment. The research found that the needs for the style of environmentally friendly furniture according to different socio-economic conditions were in the same direction, which means that consumers need modern environmentally friendly furniture in western style, using natural materials in manufacturing with high technology, and furniture color in a cool shade. Therefore, the designer should consider the different socio-economic conditions of consumers that affect the needs differently, and use this as a furniture design guideline that is environmentally friendly and appropriate for the needs of consumers.
