The subject of the research is foreign experience of bank participating with different business strategies in guaranteeing of sustainable ecological economical country development. The purpose of the work is to elaborate suggestions for contemporary credit institutions to realize projects and products with the emphasis on the environment protection, climate impact minimization and resources saving. The importance of the problem of environment protection financing is determined by the necessity of major overhaul for domestic banks to reconsider the approach to their efficiency evaluation on the basis of foreign experience to comply with the social, ecological and climatic standards in attracting resources and their allocation on markets of capital and loans. Nowadays many foreign banks widely use such standards defining creditworthiness of major corporations, small and medium businesses and deciding whether to credit them, as well as in the accounting to oversight  bodies. This approach is typical for so-called green, ecological, “alternative” banking institutions. The article demonstrates that Russian banks do not usually follow such strategies. The fact that some Russian banks realize a number of ecologically oriented projects does not influence the overall level of the sustainable ecological economic development of the country. It is concluded that it is absolutely necessary to study and adopt the foreign  experience of forming, transformation and realization of new banking business strategy in which along with economic efficiency ecological and social aspects equally matter.

Micro-enterprises (MEs) have been shown to collectively be the largest employer in most developing countries thus playing a significant role in the countries economies. Using informal sector micro-enterprise furniture makers (wood and metal) in Nairobi, Kenya and based on Porter's competitive business strategies typology, this study sought to determine if the strategies employed by the informal sector MEs fit within the typology framework, and if membership within the strategic groups in the typology are a predictor of better business business performance. From the study, although membership within the two focus strategic groups of differentiation and low cost was confirmed, unlike studies done with medium and large enterprises, membership was not found to be a predictor of better business performance. Porter's typology may therefore not adequately capture the competitive business activities relevant to and directly by MEs, presenting an opportunity for research into the development of competitive business strategy typologies directly derived from their activities and therefore applicable to them.

This chapter introduces the Green IT Balanced Scorecard by incorporating an environmental aspect of technology into the scorecard measurement method. The authors conceptualized the Green IT balanced scorecard as “a nomological management tool to systematically align IT strategy with business strategy from an environmental sustainability perspective in order to achieve competitive advantage.” The objectives of the Green IT balanced scorecard include the measurement of technology performance via the effective integration of environmental aspects, the investigation of both tangible and intangible assets of Green IT investment, the alignment of IT performance and business performance, and the transformation of the results into competitive advantage. This concept offers a new possibility for both practitioners and researchers to translate their sustainable business strategies into Green IT actions.

Purpose This study aims to track product market competition and financial flexibility on firms’ business strategies. Design/methodology/approach For this purpose, 187 listed firms on the Tehran Stock Exchange were selected by the systematic elimination for 2012–2018. The hypotheses were examined using the linear regression model. Ittner and Larcker’s (1997) model assesses the business strategy (dependent variable). The Herfindahl–Hirschman index is used to assess the product market competition (independent variable). Finally, the Frank and Goyal’s (2009) model investigates financial flexibility (independent variable). Findings The findings indicate that competition in the product market has significantly declined the resort of defensive and invasive business strategies and intensified opportunistic analytical and opportunistic strategies, benefiting from financial flexibility and facilitating defensive and opportunistic adaptation and decreased analytic and invasive strategies. Besides, the product market competition contributes to the firm’s financial flexibility and analytical, opportunistic, invasive and defensive strategies. Most of the studies in the field of business strategy analyzed some factors, such as performance (Zhang, 2016), tax avoidance (Higgins et al., 2015) and share pricing risk (Habib and Hasan, 2017). There is no study to assess the effect of business strategy on product market competition and financial flexibility. Originality/value The present study’s findings provide some invaluable concepts for firm managers on the significance of competition in the product market and financial flexibility. Focusing on competition intensity and flexibility level can deal with the board’s ambiguities on market structure and competitive status. The use of profitably competitive investment opportunities leads to selecting the most beneficial strategies, leading to a more efficient allocation of scarce resources and, finally, the enhancement of organizational performance.
