This study aims to improve students' mathematical reasoning abilities in learning mathematics through Problem Solving with Scientific approaches. The subjects in this study were all students of class VIII B, Padamara 1 st junior high school, totaling 33 students. This research was conducted in 3 cycles, each cycle consisting of 2 meetings. Each cycle in this study includes action planning, action implementation, observation and reflection. To measure the ability of mathematical reasoning is evaluated using the mathematical reasoning ability test. Based on the results of the study, the mathematical reasoning ability of the first cycle obtained an average value of 40.9, the second cycle obtained an average value of 60.15, and the third cycle obtained an average value of 63.3. The conclusion obtained from this study is that learning with Problem Solving with the Scientific approach can improve the mathematical reasoning ability of students of class VIII B Padamara 1 N Middle School, especially the subject of Building a Flat Side Room.

This study aims to analyze the validity and effectiveness of teaching materials developed based on a realistic mathematical approach in improving students 'mathematical reasoning and representation abilities, to analyze the increase in students' reasoning skills and mathematical representation abilities taught using teaching materials based on realistic mathematical approaches. The data were obtained through the validation sheet of teaching materials, observation sheets, student response questionnaires, mathematical reasoning ability test instruments and mathematical representation ability tests. This study uses a 4-D development model Thiagarajan, Semmel and Semmel by developing teaching materials with a realistic mathematical approach. Based on the results of the validation, the total average value of the RPP validity was 4.81, the student books were 4.83 and the LKPD was 4.85, the students' mathematical reasoning ability tests and the mathematical representation ability tests were in the valid category. Classical mastery of learning reaches 90.62% which has met the completeness criteria, namely ≥85% of students have reached the KKM. The increase in students' mathematical reasoning abilities using teaching materials based on a realistic mathematical approach on fraction material seen from N-Gain in the first trial and second trial has increased from 0.36 to 0.50 meaning that it is in the medium category. As well as an increase in the ability of students' mathematical representation using teaching materials based on a realistic mathematical approach on fraction material seen from N-Gain in the first trial and second trial, it increased from 0.43 to 0.50, meaning that it was in the medium category.

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bahwa kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa yang diajar dengan model pembelajaran Discovery Learning lebih tinggi daripada siswa yang diajar dengan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD di kelas VIII SMP Negeri 6 Medan T.A 2016/2017. Jenis penelitian ini adalah eksperimen semu. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII Semester genap SMP Negeri 6 Medan dan sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII-C dan kelas VIII-D sebanyak 76 siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengetahui kemampuan penalaran matematis  siswa adalah tes kemampuan penalaran matematis  yang telah divalidasi dalam bentuk uraian. Dari hasil penelitian yang diberi perlakuan yang berbeda, kelas eksperimen 1 dengan model pembelajaran Discovery Learning dan kelas eksperimen 2 dengan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa yang diajar dengan model pembelajaran Discovery Learning lebih tinggi daripada siswa yang diajar dengan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD di kelas VIII SMP Negeri 6 Medan  T.A.  2016/2017 Kata Kunci : Discovery Learning, STAD, Penalaran Matematis  ABSTRACT This study aims to determine that the students' mathematical reasoning abilities taught by the learning model of Discovery Learning is higher than the students who are taught by STAD type cooperative learning model in class VIII SMP Negeri 6 Medan T.A 2016/2017. The population in this study is all students of class VIII Semester even Junior High School 6 Medan and the sample in this study are students of class VIII-C and class VIII-D as many as 76 students. The instrument used to determine students' mathematical reasoning abilities is a validated test of mathematical reasoning ability in the form of a description. Mathematical reasoning is the ability to think about mathematical problems, namely by thinking logically about mathematical problems to get conclusions about problem solutions. There are several factors that can affect students' mathematical reasoning, including mathematical abilities. Dissimilarity of students' mathematical abilities allows for dissimilarity in their mathematical reasoning abilities. So, this research intends to describe students' mathematical reasoning abilities in solving social arithmetic problems based on dissimilarity in mathematical abilities. The purpose of this research was to describe qualitative data about the mathematical reasoning abilities of students with high, medium, or low abilities in solving social arithmetic problems. The instrument used was the Mathematical Ability Test to determine the three research subjects, followed by a Problem Solving Test to get qualitative data about students' mathematical reasoning abilities, then interviews to get deeper data that was not obtained through written tests. Thus, the research data were analyzed using mathematical reasoning indicators. From the result of data analysis, it was found that all students understood the problem well. Students with high and medium mathematical abilities are determining and implementing problem solving strategies properly, namely writing down the step for solving them correctly and making accurate conclusions by giving logical argumens at aech step of the solution. However, students with low mathematical abillities have difficulty in determining and implementing problem solving strategies because they do not understand the concept, thus writing the steps to solve the problems incorrectly and not giving accurate conclusions about the correctness of the solution. This study aimed to describe the level of students' reasoning ability to solve the problems on flat sides of Geometry with the level of mathematical reasoning ability of high, moderate and low. The types and the research approaches used were descriptive qualitative and quantitative research design. The research subjectswere 6 students from class VIIIF. The form of data collection included 4 items ofwritten questions test and interview on the subject selected. Based on the analysis, the average value of the entire instrument about the mathematical reasoning abilities gained 71.5% for the indicators that carried out the calculations based on mathematical formulas or rules applicable. While 73.33% and 71.5% for the indicator of conclusions and 66.67% for the indicator ofestimation, that ifsummedup and averaged the percentage was 69%. The ability of class VIIIF students’ mathematical reasoning was fair.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan: 1) keefektifan pendekatan problem solving terhadap kemampuan pemahaman dan penalaran matematis; 2) keefektifan pendekatan problem posing terhadap kemampuan pemahaman dan penalaran matematis; 3) perbandingan keefektifan antara pendekatan pembelajaran problem solving dan problem posing terhadap kemampuan pemahaman dan penalaran matematis siswa SMP pada pembelajaran bangun ruang sisi datar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen semu (quasi experiment). Data dianalisis menggunakan one sample t test, uji MANOVA rumus T2 Hotteling, dan uji t kriteria Bonferroni. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) pendekatan problem solving  efektif terhadap kemampuan pemahaman dan penalaran matematis; 2) pendekatan problem posing efektif terhadap kemampuan pemahaman dan penalaran matematis; 3) pendekatan problem solving lebih efektif dibandingkan problem solving terhadap kemampuan pemahaman matematis tetapi pendekatan problem solving tidak lebih efektif dibandingkatn problem posingterhadap kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa SMP pada pembelajaran bangun ruang sisi datar.Kata kunci: pendekatan problem solving, pendekatan problem posing, kemampuan pemahaman matematis, dan kemampuan penalaran matematis. The effectiveness comparison of problem solving and problem posing approaches in mathematics learning towards junior high school students AbstractThe aim of this study is to describe: 1) the effectiveness of problem solving approach on mathematical understanding and reasoning ability; 2) the effectiveness of problem posing approach on mathematical understanding and reasoning ability; 3) the comparison effectiveness of polyhedral learning using problem solving approach and problem posing approach on mathematical understanding and reasoning ability of State Junior High School. AbstrakPenelitian ini didasari atas permasalahan pentingnya kemampuan penalaran matematis dan pencapaiannya yang masih rendah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran Giving Question Getting Answer dan Think Pair Share terhadap kemampuan penalaran matematika siswa, dan efektifitasnya dalam meningkatkan kemampuan tersebut. Populasi Penelitian eksperimen semu ini mencakup seluruh siswa kelas VII SMPN 1 Balong. Kelas VIIA diberi pembelajaran dengan model TPS sedangkan kelas VIIB dengan model GQGA. Instrumen pengumpulan data berbentuk tes, meliputi soal pretest dan posttest. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa model pembelajaran GQGA berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan penalaran siswa kelas VIIB dengan peningkatan yang terjadi dari nilai pretest ke posttest. Begitu juga dengan model pembelajaran TPS berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan penalaran matematika siswa kelas VIIA dengan peningkatan nilai pretest ke posttest. Model pembelajaran GQGA tidak lebih efektif daripada model pembelajaran TPS dalam meningkatkan kemampuan penalaran matematika siswa. The Effect of Learning Model Giving Question Getting Answer and Think Pair Share Toward Reasoning Mathematics Ability Student’s Grade VII AbstractThis research is based on the problem of the importance of mathematical reasoning abilities and their low achievement. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Giving Question Getting Answer and Think Pair Share learning models on students' mathematical reasoning abilities and their effectiveness in enhancing these abilities. Population This quasi-experimental study included all seventh-grade students of Balong 1 Junior High School. The VIIA class is given learning with the TPS model while the VIIB class is with the GQGA model. The instruments of data collection are in the form of tests, including the questions of the pretest and posttest. The results showed that the GQGA learning model had an effect on the reasoning ability of students in class VIIB with an increase that occurred from the pretest to the posttest. Likewise, the TPS learning model influences the mathematical reasoning abilities of VIIA students with an increase in the value of the pretest to posttest. The GQGA learning model is no more effective than the TPS learning model in improving students' mathematical reasoning abilities.

This research was conducted to determine the effect of aptitude-treatment interaction (ATI) instructional models with task and forced instructional strategy to mathematical reasoning abilities. Mathematical reasoning ability is an ability that belongs to the goals of national education, but its achievement is still fairly low. The method used in this study is a quasi-experimental method with a posttest-only research design. Sampling in this study using purposive sampling technique. The study sample consisted of 60 students divided into two classes (30 experimental classes and 30 control classes). This research was conducted in the school of SMK Perintis 1 Depok and SMK Fajar Depok. The experimental class uses aptitude-treatment interaction (ATI) learning model with task and forced learning strategies, while the control class uses conventional methods. The collected data is then analyzed using the calculation of chi-square test, Fisher test, and hypothesis testing. The results of the data analysis showed that the average value of students who learned using aptitude-treatment interaction (ATI) learning model with task and forced learning strategies was higher than the average value of students who learned using conventional methods. Based on the results of hypothesis testing shows that there is an influence of aptitude-treatment interaction (ATI) learning model with task learning strategies and forced on students' mathematical reasoning abilities.

The reasoning is the ability to find a way to get the truth. In terminology, logic is the science that governs the process of human thinking so that the results presented can reach the truth. So it can be concluded also that by reasoning, humans can make an argument that is absolute and can be accepted by others through logical thinking. This research was conducted to determine the mathematical reasoning ability of MTs class 8 students on Triangle and Quadrilateral material based on indicators of mathematical reasoning ability that is to draw a logical conclusion and compose an argument, analogical reasoning, transductive reasoning, deductive reasoning, generalization and estimate answers, solutions or tendency with non-routine troubleshooting. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data to be analyzed is qualitative data in the form of written and oral answers obtained from the written test. This research was conducted in MTs PPI 38 Padalarang with the subject of this research is class VIII-A which amounted to 31 people. Based on the results of research, students' mathematical reasoning abilities on MTs PPI 38 Padalarang are classified as sufficient. This is because there are some reasoning indicators that still need to be improved especially on analytical reasoning and generalization indicator as stated in the table which has been described.

The purpose of this study was to determine students’ mathematical reasoning abilities in solving PISA equivalent geometry content problems at the class VIII of SMP Negeri Unggul Tunas Nusa and these factors can influence students’ mathematical reasoning abilities in solving equivalent questions of PISA geometry content grade VIII of SMP Negeri Unggul Tunas Nusa. The research design used in this study was descriptive research. The subjects in this study were 30 students from grade VIII- SMP Negeri Unggul Tunas Nusa.  Data collection was obtained through the distributing of tests and interviews. From the results of the data analysis, it was concluded that the mathematical reasoning students’ ability in Solving on geometry content problems in grade VIII of SMP Negeri Unggul Tunas Nusa was in the very low category. The ability of students’ on mathematical reasoning at the indicator I was 21.56%, indicator II was 33.49%, indicator III was 16.11%, and indicator IV was 15.56%. The cause of the obstacles faced by students in solving geometry content material problems is that students were not accustomed to solving  non-routine questions, a little bit complicated, and require a high level of problem solving as the questions given to students were equivalent to PISA problems, the ability of students to mastery of the material is limited and cannot suitable to the concepts that have been studied with the problem being worked on. Abstrak Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal setara PISA konten geometri di kelas VIII SMP Negeri Unggul Tunas Nusa dan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal setara PISA konten geometri kelas VIII SMP Negeri Unggul Tunas Nusa. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah 30 siswa dari kelas VIII-Nusa SMP Negeri Unggul Tunas Nusa. Pengumpulan data diperoleh melalui pemberian tes dan wawancara. Dari hasil analisis data, diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa dalam mengerjakan soal konten geometri kelas VIII Nusa SMP Negeri Unggul Tunas Nusa berada dalam kategori sangat rendah. Kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa pada indikator I sebesar 21,56%, pada indikator II sebesar 33,49%, pada indikator III sebesar 16,11%, dan indikator IV sebesar 15,56%. Penyebab dari  kendala yang dihadapi siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal materi konten geometri adalah siswa tidak terbiasa menyelesaikan  soal-soal nonrutin, sedikit rumit, serta memerlukan tingkat pemecahan masalah yang tinggi seperti soal yang diberikan kepada siswa adalah soal setara PISA, kemampuan siswa dalam menguasai materi yang terbatas dan siswa tidak mampu mengaitkan konsep yang telah lama dipelajari dengan soal yang sedang dikerjakan. This research was conducted on junior high school students with the aim of improving mathematical reasoning abilities, student activity and student attitudes towards the application of open ended approach learning. This type of research is Classroom Action Research. The subject of this study is the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 7 Padangsidimpuan 2017-2018 Academic Year, which are selected in class VIII-2 with a total of 24 students. The conclusions that can be drawn from this study are 1) increasing mathematical reasoning abilities through the application of mathematical learning with an open-ended approach to students of class VIII-2. The increase in students' mathematical reasoning abilities was obtained at 0.5 with the medium criteria, 2) increasing student learning activities through the application of mathematics learning with an open-ended approach to students of class VIII-2. The increase in student activity was obtained at 0.46 with moderate criteria, 3) increasing student attitudes towards mathematics through the application of mathematics learning with an open-ended approach to students of class VIII-2. The increase in student activity is 0.6 with moderate criteria.
