The study reported on here aimed to examine the effectiveness of the successful intelligence interactive module (SIIM) that employs thinking skills using the successful intelligence theory. This was an empirical study that used mixed method analysis. The rationale for the development of this interactive module was to increase the analytical, practical, and creative thinking skills score among undergraduates in the education programme at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). We administered a quasi-experimental design with pre-tests and post-tests to 70 UUM undergraduates in the education programme. The participants were randomly selected and divided into a control group and an experimental group. The ANCOVA test result showed that SIIM was effective in increasing the respondents’ analytical, practical, and creative thinking skills scores. Overall, the findings showed that the teaching approach of using the interactive module was effective in enhancing analytical, creative and practical thinking skills. This study provides positive implications for undergraduates’ soft skill development in preparation for their future careers.

This paper provides an assessment of workforce need in the Jordanian ICT industry. The results have shown that there is a growing workforce gap in the ICT sector. The technical skills of graduates are not satisfactory, and there is an increasing demand for skilled graduates. In addition to the technical skills required, communication skills, creative thinking, and English language skills were seen as important “soft skill elements” across all job categories and are missing in the current ICT workforce. The skills and competencies identified in this study can be used to motivate a design of an effective, flexible and relevant ICT program that can contribute to building a skillful workforce focusing on specialized and hands-on practices in ICT domains.

This article focuses on requirement of soft skills for communicating across departments in an organization. Fortunately, laying the foundation for good working relationships with other departments is a learned skill as experienced by management consultants. It starts with evaluating the role of the engineering department in an enterprise and continues with learning how to best communicate with employees of all personalities and skill levels. One soft skill that is easily learned and honed over time is the ability to communicate clearly. Another tip is to treat the person making a request of you the way you would for an outside customer. If another customer request supersedes, explain that to the employee requesting your time. Always take the time to proofread an e-mail or instant message, or any other form of written communication. Always treat employees from other departments just as you would for those in your own engineering team.
