AbstractThis article provides a theoretical discussion of the genre of commentary writing. Rather than examining the role of commentary in a specific religion, it attempts to articulate a set of useful questions to begin the process of rethinking what this genre is and, in the process, help create a theoretical vocabulary and conceptual framework for an analysis of commentary from the history of religions. The article is divided into three parts. The first broadens the traditional concept of a "canon", ostensibly the raw data upon which the commentary imposes a taxonomy. The second argues that the human condition, what Heidegger calls the way in which we are thrown into the world, demands that we interpret it. Finally, it is suggested that commentary is fundamentally about location or space, thereby providing the classificatory schema that is necessary for contextualizing both past and present. The main goal of this article is to problematize the current discussion of commentary in a theoretical way.

The age of discovery is one of the most important periods in human history whose effects continue to be seen. In this period, the world was traveled by European sailors, new continents were discovered, and the discovered resources, work, and labor power flowed to Europe. All these developments have led to changes in the perception of the East in the West. Orientalism, defined as the manifestation of the West on the East, has found a place in art, literature, all kinds of written or printed media, especially cinema. The purpose of the study is to examine the domination structures starting with colonialism in the context of orientalism through the narratives of cinema in light of information. The narrative of 12 Years a Slave (2013) was examined using the discourse analysis method which is one of the qualitative text analysis. As a result, it was seen that the dialogues, images, character depictions, and the language used played an important role in the presentation of the othering; the white man was in the role of savior/god/good, and this situation was also supported by metaphors.

PurposeToday, online malicious comments are serious issues. They can cause psychological distress and suicide of victims. Although prior studies have focused on the role of anonymity as a major factor in making these comments, results of these studies have been inconsistent. On the other hand, the need for attention from others can provide an alternative explanation for such malicious comments. However, this perspective has been rarely studied. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate effects of anonymity and need for attention on posting malicious comments online and compare these two factors, resolving dark sides of online interaction.Design/methodology/approachThis study obtained 327 questionnaires of Facebook users through a survey and analyzed the research model using partial least squares (PLS) regression.FindingsResults of this study revealed that the need for attention affected malicious comments through partial mediation of neutralization. On the other hand, anonymity did not significantly affect malicious comments.Research limitations/implicationsThis study has the following academic implications. First, we empirically examined the critical influence of need for attention on making malicious comments online based on the impression management theory. Second, this study revealed that the influence of need for attention on making malicious comments was partially mediated by neutralization. Third, this study may offer an explanation for contradicting findings on the role of anonymity in the phenomenon of posting malicious comments online.Practical implicationsPractical implications of this study are as follows. First, SNS platforms can limit activities of persons who post malicious comments frequently. Second, this study suggests that a notice is needed to inform the seriousness and harmful consequences of malicious comments. Third, Facebook practitioners should be aware that low anonymity may not reduce malicious comments.Originality/valueThis study quantitatively examined the effect of need for attention on malicious comments based on the impression management theory. It provides a fact that individuals who want to attract attention from others would write malicious comments through neutralization.

Purpose of the study: The study aims to describe the notion of somatic cultural code. The research pursues several objectives, such as: to describe the concepts of the linguistic worldview, the image of the world, the cultural code; to identify and systematize the somatic code of the Chinese language; to describe the lingua cognitive and linguacultural properties of the selected somatic concepts; to study the role of somatic components in lexical units; to investigate and describe the denotative meaning, functional-stylistic and emotional-expressive connotations. Methodology: The author employs the descriptive-representative method to isolate and describe the key Chinese cultural somas. Besides, the conceptual analysis method was used to determine the frequency of somatic metonymy and its influence on linguistic worldview. The material of the study consists of 3,000 examples of somatic concepts. Main Findings: The article offers an analysis of somatic cultural code and its role in the Chinese cultural and linguistic worldview. The research was conducted on the material of Chinese lexical and phraseological units. Despite the growing interest of modern linguistics in somatic cultural models, and in particular, in somatic metaphors, there are only a few studies on the lexico-semantic aspects of the Chinese language. Applications of this study: The concepts of face and heart are primary elements of the Chinese cultural somatic code with its system of associations, images, and symbols. As part of the traditional linguistic worldview they shape mentality, character, traditions, and stereotypes. As practical and axiological means, they are embedded in the language and consciousness of native Chinese speakers. Novelty/Originality of this study: It is one of the first studies of the Chinese somatic cultural code and its national and cultural specificity.

The aim of this article is to present the most important voices on the role of the US in the international order during Donald Trump’s presidency in the debate held in the Foreign Affairs. The authors assume that Foreign Affairs expresses the opinions of the most crucial organisation bringing together the elites of American foreign affairs – the Council on Foreign Relations. The paper proposes a hypothesis according to which there is a difference of opinion due to the adopted theoretical perspective regarding Trump’s role in the destruction of the liberal international order among the American power elites, even though they agree that the ideological conflict between democratic and authoritarian countries around the world is escalating.

Although the literature has shown the benefits of corporate environmental reputation, little is known about how this reputation develops. Based on impression management theory, we examine how a firm’s environmental practices create its environmental reputation. We undertake a fine-grained analysis by distinguishing between high and low environmental external visibility practices and examining the effect of decoupling environmental practices (i.e., using only practices that are highly visible) on environmental reputation. We also propose that corporate environmental disclosure moderates these relationships. The hypotheses are tested on a sample of 241 U.S. firms included in Newsweek’s Green Rankings. Our results suggest that managers should avoid decoupling because such practices heavily jeopardize environmental reputation. In contrast, developing a balanced set of both high and low environmental external visibility practices, enhanced through environmental disclosure, pays for environmental reputation.

Abstract: In Indonesia as a multicultural country, there is a diversity of beliefs. History proves that unhealthy exclusivism endangers pluralism. Differences in religious beliefs can become a potential for horizontal conflict if the state does not act to prevent this. In order to create a harmonious society, the government has launched the Religious Harmony Trilogy through the Regulation of the Minister of Religion and the Minister of Home Affairs. As citizens of Indonesia, Christians cannot neglect this harmony effort. This study aims to answer the problem of how the role of believers in social life in applying the Religious Harmony Trilogy based on the perspective of the Christian faith. This research uses descriptive analysis method through related literature. The results of this study indicate: first, Christianity teaches living in harmony among fellow Christians as members of the body of Christ. Second, Christianity teaches to be the light of the world and the salt of the world in the midst of people with different faiths, so that harmony can be created. Third, Christianity teaches submission to the government because the government is determined by God, thus creating harmony between Christians and the government.
