scholarly journals DEVELOPING ENGLISH MATERIALS FOR CHARACTER BUILDING BASED ON 2013 CURRICULUM FOR EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS

 This research developed English Instructional materials for character building based on 2013 Curriculum. The research was carried out in a class of 8th graders of SMP Darul Falah Blitar.  The 23 students were involved in this research in the phase of obtaining information, needs analysis and trying out. The result of needs analysis became the basis of how the researcher composed the English instructional materials with Scientific Approach, official approach of 2013 Curriculum. In the product, an English textbook, the four skills are balance improved; listening, speaking, reading and writing. All of the materials are appropriate with 2013 Curriculum and the contents refer to students’ character building. The materials are for a year of 8th grade which are packaged into seven units. All the steps of learning and exercises in the materials are based on Scientific Approach which has five steps: observing, associating, experimenting, associating and communicating.

This curent study conducts research and development aiming to developed an appropriate English Instructional materials for Islamic characters based on saintific approach in 2013 Curriculum. Futhermore, this study were carried out at second and the third grade of Islamic Junior High School  Mataram with total number 30 students involved as well as participants. In the phase of obtaining information, needs analysis and trying out, this study utilized a reserch and development study with saintific approach i.e. observing, associating, experimenting, associating and communicating. This study utilized needs analysis as main instrument in composing the English instructional materials through Scientific Approach, official approach of 2013 Curriculum. The product of the study shows that an English textbook, the four major skills of english were balance improved,i.e. listening, speaking, reading and writing. All of the materials are appropriate with the saintific aprroach in 2013 Curriculum  and the contents refer to students’ Islamic character. The materials are for second and thisd grade of Islamic junior hihg School which are laid out into seven units. To summ up,  the laid out and composition of the english material were developed  based on Scientific Approach in term of steps and exercises of learning materials.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalahuntuk menghasilkan perangkat pembelajaran matematika SMP kelas VIII semester genap dengan pendekatan saintifik yang valid, praktis, dan efektif. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian pengembangan menggunakan model pengembangan Four-D yang terdiri dari empat tahap, yaitu: (1) pendefinisian, (2) perancangan, (3) pengembangan, dan (4) penyebaran.Kualitas perangkat pembelajaran terdiri dari tiga kriteria berikut: (1) kevalidan, (2) kepraktisan, dan (3) keefektifan. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah analisis deskriptif kuantitatif. Penelitian menghasilkan perangkat pembelajaran yang terdiri atas RPP, LKS dan instrumen penilaian aspek sikap, pengetahuan dan keterampilan.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sebagai berikut:(1)perangkat pembelajaran memenuhi kriteria kevalidanberdasarkan hasil validasi ahli; (2) perangkat pembelajaran memenuhi kriteria kepraktisan berdasarkan hasil penilaian oleh guru, penilaian oleh siswa, dan keterlaksanaan pembelajaran.; (3) perangkat pembelajaran memenuhi kriteria keefektifan berdasarkan hasil belajar siswa pada aspek sikap, pengetahuan dan keterampilan.Kata Kunci: pengembangan, perangkat pembelajaran, pendekatan saintifik. Developing Mathematics Instructional Materials for 8th Grade Students of Junior High School in Their Second Semester Based on the Scientific Approach AbstractThe aim of this study is  to produce mathematics instructional materials for 8thgrade students of junior high school in their second semester based on the scientific approach which is valid, practical, and effective.This study was a research and development study using the Four-D development model consisting of fourstages: (1) define, (2) design, (3) develop,and (4) disseminate.The quality of instructional materials consisting of the following three criterion: (1) validity, (2) practicality, and (3) effectiveness, The data analysis technique used in this study is a descriptive quantitative analysis. The research produced instructional materials consisting of lesson plans, student worksheets and assesment instrument for attitude, knowledge and skill aspects. The result of the research shows that: (1) the instructional materials fulfill the validity criteria base on experts’ appraisal; (2) the instructional materials fulfill the practicality criterion base on teacher’sassesment, students’ assessment, and  learning implementation; (3)the instructional materials fulfill the effectiveness criterion base on student learning achievement in attitude, knowledge and skill aspects.Keywords: development, instructional materials, scientific approach.

The study aimed to identify the impact of using the Previous and acquired knowledge strategy in increasing the achievement for eighth grade students, the study depends on semi-experimental approach. The sample of study consists of tow section of 8th grade in Al-thamnah primary school for girls in directorate of aqaba during the year 2018-2019,and the random assignment (1) as an experimental group will be 30 students and the division (2) as a group of officers formed of 30 students. In order to achieve the objective of the study , the study tool was constructed to test the achievement and after verifying its validity and stability it was applied to the sample of the beginning of the study and after the study group. The result of the single unit variance (ANCOVA) showed that there were statistically significant differences between the student response to the test of the acquisition of achievement due to the variable method of teaching and the strategy of the Previous and acquired knowledge comparing with usuall method. The researcher recommended the possibility of training teachers to use strategy of the Previous and acquired knowledge and model in teaching science because it proved its effectiveness and recommended conducting study on the introduction of other teaching methods of comparison in the achievement.

In this study, it is aimed to examine and analyze the problems posed by eighth grade students for different forms of representation. In the study, it was also examined how the problems posed by the students differed according to their academic success. 54 eighth grade students selected by appropriate sampling participated in the study, which was designed as a case study, one of the qualitative research methods. The data of the research were obtained with the “Problem Posing Test” developed by the researcher and the “Mathematics Achievement Test” consisting of exam questions prepared by the Ministry of National Education. Silver and Cai’s (1996) analysis scheme was used to analyze the obtained data. According to the findings, it was seen that only 44% of the answers given by the students were solvable problems suitable for the given ones. While most of the problems posed in the desired direction were of “low” mathematical nature in terms of mathematical complexity, it was seen that they were in the “conditional” category in terms of linguistic complexity. It has been found that students are more successful in posing problems for table and verbal representation, compared to picture and symbolic representation. It has been observed that as students' mathematical achievements increase in representations other than symbolic representation, their rate of posing a problem suitable for the given ones also increases.

The aim of this study was to examine the domain-general CT skills of 8th grade students in Turkey. In the study, first, the domain-general CT scale was adapted to Turkish and then, the CT skills of the students were examined. This survey research was conducted with the 284 eighth grade students. The data were analyzed through confirmatory factor analysis, independent sample t-test and Pearson correlation test. The results of the validity and reliability tests showed that the domain-general CT scale was suitable for Turkish culture. T-test results showed no significant difference in the CT skills of the students according to gender, having a computer and internet access at home. A statistically significant difference in algorithm, evaluation, generalization, and general CT skills was found between students who learned programming and those who did not in favor of students learning programming. Correlational tests revealed that there was a positive and significant relationship between the programming experience of students who learn programming and their CT skills. As students' programming experience increased, their CT skills also increased. The results of the research were discussed, and recommendations for policy-makers and implementers were included.

The objectives of this research are to: 1) discover the learning needs and students’ needs of the eighth grade students of SMP Islam Terpadu Fathona Baturaja toward the learning source for reading text, 2) design the appropriate materials of English Reading textfor the eighth grade students of SMP Islam Terpadu Fathona Baturaja. To collect the data, the researcher used four instruments (documents, needs analysis questionnaire, expert judgment evaluation rubric, and satisfaction questionnaire). The methodology of this research was research and development (RnD). The participants were 16. They were given needs analysis questionnaire. The results of needs analysis were as the guideline to develop syllabi for the worksheet’s chapters. The first draft materials of product were evaluated by the experts. The results of expert judgment, for all aspects, had a mean score 1 which could be categorized as proper. There was only 1 aspect that was 0.82 which was proper too. The researcher then established the product to be evaluated by the English teachers. The results could be categorized as Very Good. The final product in the form of EFL Worksheet with the implementation of Islamic values and related culture for the eighth grade students of SMP Islam Terpadu Fathona Baturaja

This study aims to know the influence of active learning model Course Review Horay to biology learning outcomes at eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 10 Batam academic year 2013/2014. This research design is  randomized experiment using posttest only control-group design. The study population is all the eighth grade students of  SMP Negeri 10 Batam with reached population consist of 7 classes. The sampling technique using a simple random sampling. Samples were selected class VIII5 as control class and VIII8 as experiment class. The instrument  that use in this research is the form of the test. Requirement have been in the form of normality and homogeneity test, which showed that normal and homogeneous data. Technique of data analysis conducted by the t test. The result analysis of data using the t test showed the tvalue 3.01 and ttable is 2.00 (tvalue > ttable). The results showed that the active learning result model Course Review Horay give effect to increase student learning outcomes from the average of the experimental class 82,57 and control class 76,04. Thus, the hypothesis put forward acceptable significance level (α = 0.05). Thus, it can be concluded that the using of active learning model Course Review Horay influential on learning outcomes of biology at eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 10 Batam. Keywords: Course Review Horay, Biology Learning Outcomes.
