In recent years there has been increased discussion of the subjective, emotional and sociological factors influencing student choice of university. However, there is a dearth of information exploring what constitutes these feelings. This exploratory paper uses the conceptual model of the servicescape to provide insight into the emotional factors driving student choice. In-depth interviews with prospective students revealed that first impressions really do count. Students are deterred by poor physical environments and excited by enthusiastic staff and students. Most significantly, the study revealed the necessity of a restorative servicescape to provide both a sense of escape and feeling of belonging. This paper contributes to broadening the application of the servicescape model and to a greater understanding of the impact of the environment on prospective students, and creates an opportunity to inform policy by providing university marketing decision makers with a better understanding of what constitutes the university environment and what makes it appealing to prospective students.

The article discusses issues related to the peculiarities of the professional choice of graduates of public education organizations. There are results of the study presented, which allow us to determine the role of conscious self-regulation of the activity of young people who find themselves in a situation of having to make a professional choice (on the example of students of a pedagogical university). The research involved 302 first-year students studying in the field of training 44.03.01 «Pedagogical Education». As research tools, the «Motivation of teaching pedagogical university students» methodology by S.А. Pakulina and M.V. Ovchinnikov and the questionnaire «Style of self-regulation of behaviour» by V.I. Morosanova were used. The data obtained during the research were organized, processed and interpreted using mathematical methods. It was found that first-year students who, upon entering the university, made a professional choice more consciously, taking into account their interests and inclinations have a well-developed need to think through their actions and behaviour to achieve their goals and their action plan is detailed. They are also characterized by independence in designing an action plan to achieve individual goals, flexibility in the situation of unforeseen circumstances, an advanced adequate assessment of themselves and the results they achieved. As the main conclusion, the following is formulated: the possession of a developed system of conscious self-regulation of arbitrary activity in an individual who is at the stage of choosing a profession allows him to make an adequate professional choice, which, in turn, is one of the conditions for the actualization of professional and personal potential.

The article provides an overview of foreign and national research on the possibilities of using cognitive management in the educational environment of higher education institution. The authors emphasize the potential of cognitive management principles application in the educational organization, the direct correlation between cognitive management tasks and the general purposes of educational process. The possible approaches to knowledge management in educational organization are described. The authors dwell on the general methodological, economic and functional aspects of cognitive management at the university, argue that the value-communicative essence of university education enables to manage the knowledge base of the university. On the example of Ukhta State Technical University the article considers the possibilities of students’ project activity and project self-government. Firstly, it ensures the increment and intensification of the value-communicative flow of knowledge within the University and in its interaction with the external environment. Different authors report a deep transformation of the classic mission of the University which this article proposes to identify as new paradigms (lifelong learning and learning based competencies), new perspectives (internationalization and employability), and new values (social responsibility and sustainability). Different international organizations account for and promote this trend. In order to delve into the characteristics and scope of the changes, a study has been carried out. It examines documents published in the last 10 years by three international organizations in the field of education: UNESCO, OECD and OEI. To achieve this goal, a systematic document screening process was carried out. The following aprioristic dimensions were identified in the selected materials: lifelong learning, competency-based learning, internationalization, employability, social responsibility and sustainability. In addition, associated emerging themes were sought. The result of the study allows us to provide evidence on the issue and make a useful documentary classification available to continue investigating global trends in the university environment.

Abstract Contemporary psychologist Didier Anzieu249 speaks of five phases of the process of creation: creative emotion, gaining consciousness, transposition, elaboration, and exposure. Each of the five phases has a correspondent in the stages of development of visual-plastic educational activities, and the role of the teacher is essential in each of them. Starting from the five phases, we propose an approach pattern to the creative process, adapted and developed during the years of experience in pre-university educational environment, and refined throughout the research activity carried out in the university environment.

The article discusses the significance of responsibility in providing safety of the environment surrounding the person. The problem is caused by the contradiction between the human need for security and impossibility in many cases to satisfy it because of inadequate fulfilment of the duties by employees. The purpose of the article is to outline the ways of solving this contradiction by pedagogical means. The methodological basis of the research is systematic, activity-based, and subject-subject approaches. The author reveals the essential features of responsible behavior and prerequisites for the formation of a responsible person: macro-level (organization of public life); family and other micro-communities; educational institutions. Importance of effort consolidation of all subjects of pedagogical influence for solving urgent educational problems is noted. The role of certain principles of education in the formation of a responsible person in the past and at the present stage is shown. Particular attention is paid to the role of higher education in the formation of responsibility, since it is in the university environment where students develop such patterns of behavior that afterwards may be used in public and everyday life, and in their profession. This approach makes a purely pedagogical issue socially important.

The article studies personal components of a modern engineer who is a key figure in the Russian and global space. The vector of thinking, ethical priorities, reflective positions and identities determine the way to find a techno-humanitarian balance as a condition for the survival and prospects of mankind.A significant influence on the formation of engineer’s identities is exerted by historical and cultural traditions.Engineering culture has a connective structure that forms a single space of experience and activity.Memory and continuity are interrelated; identities can belong to any scientific school existing in the educational institution, field of knowledge, or to the Russian engineering school as a whole. The authors indicate that key concepts of identities of a modern engineer are responsibility, ethical reflection and social assessment of technology.Modern engineering ethics is reflected in ethical codes which reveal the ethical space and responsibilities of the engineer and impose responsibility for all processes taking place in a technogenic society. The practical-design approach is based on the tools of the post-non-classical methodology:key components of the engineer’s personal potential are correlated with the university self-developing environment, reflective activities at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and further engineering practice. The study on the personal potential and identities can be used to justify the need to expand the sociohumanitarian paradigm in engineering education, develop the concept “personal potential”, and identify features of engineer’s identity formation. The development of a model for training engineers using sociohumanitarian reflective methods converging personal and professional competencies and ethical priorities meets the role of engineering education, tasks of ensuring the competitiveness of Russian industry.
