The article is devoted to the problems of using symbols in religious-oriented psychological assistance to Muslims. The author analyzes approaches to the symbol concept in Psychology and Philosophy, as well as develops the theory and practice of using symbols in Psychotherapy. Symbols are considered in the context of Islamic divine signs, which are provided by Allah in order to contemplate, to understand and to disclose them in the nature and personality of a man, as well as in historical events from the past described in holy scriptures. Based on the analysis of the text of the Qur’an, the author emphasizes the connection between symbolic Qur’anic images and the inner world of a person, the state of their intellectual and spiritual development. Based on the works of Islamic authors of the past and present, the article suggests methods for using symbolic images presented in the Qur’an in the practice of counseling and psychotherapy, as well as substantiates the basic principles that must be observed in the process of providing psychological assistance to Muslims.

Present concerns about the state of theory and practice in occupational therapy can be explained in light of past developments, both successful and unsuccessful efforts. This article explains why occupational therapists still use arts-and-crafts modalities, the practice of which can be traced to early therapists influenced by the philosophy and practices of a social movement that swept across America from 1895 to 1920. This analysis is based on historical research, a methodology not common in occupational therapy literature.

The principles of political and legal research are analyzed as an important direction, the theoretical and practical potential of which helps to optimize the management of the state and society. Against this background, implemented: understanding the need for a combination of political and legal knowledge; definition and characterization of the basic principles of political and legal research; identification of their content, orientation and application features. Political and legal research as an important area, whose theoretical and practical potential is aimed at optimizing the management of the state and society, is based on a number of important scientific principles that allow to optimally approach the understanding of certain segments of political and legal life. The basic principles of such are: epistemological principle (allows to know the mechanisms and patterns of interaction between politics and law, to deepen the knowledge of the existing political reality in which the right is exercised, to understand the structural and functional links of political and legal factors, the possibility of providing their feedback. ulcers); the principle of systematicity (which implies that politics and law, on the one hand, are seen as an integrity directed at common objects and, on the other, as a set of relatively independent elements whose properties and functions are determined by their place in the political or legal systems); integrative principle (focuses on the combination of political and legal approaches, which means the identification of related problems, as well as the willingness to move from one type of interpretation to another depending on social needs); the principle of alternative (associated with the possibility of developing political and legal life in different trajectories, subject to different relationships and structures); the principle of coordination of theory and practice (along with the theoretical substantiation of a particular scientific problem involves the practical assessment of available resources, human resources, regulatory framework, taking into account the positions and opinions of statesmen, identifying the priorities of the activities of various institutions and centers of influence). The application of these principles will allow to deepen and optimize the study of the same phenomena and processes not only from different angles, but also in the affinity and intricacies of interconnections and mutual influence, which is most characteristic of such important directions of social and state development, which are politics and law.

Anthropological research on Vietnam has undergone an unparalleled growth in the past two decades, thanks to the relatively easier access to Vietnam for fieldwork and the fascination of many researchers with Vietnam's profound economic and sociocultural changes in the past half a century. Fieldwork in Vietnam, however, remains heavily circumscribed. Our understanding of the interplay of global forces and of the state and local dynamics in shaping social and ideological structure, practice, and historical events will be further enhanced by more collaboration among anthropologists working on Vietnam, as well as by more systematic comparative research in different Vietnamese regions and localities.

Pakistan after independence faced many problems ranging from the settlement of refugees to the fragile economy and unsteady defence. One of the major issues was the framing of constitution as immediately after separation from India, Pakistan faced a severe challenge of unity. Pakistan was a diverse country with two geographically separated wings, different cultures, divergent languages and separate provinces. The Constituent Assembly which was set up under Indian Independence Act 1947 faced this huge responsibility to provide a document on which the country could be run. Regarding character of the state of Pakistan; the religio-political Parties, Jamiat Ulama-i-Islam (JUI) and Jamat-i-Islami (JI) argued that Pakistan means the land of pure; therefore, in order to bring purity, Pakistan should be made an Islamic state. In it, the affairs of the government should be run according to Quran and Sunnah. In this way the constitution of this newly created state of Muslims should be Islamic in its nature. The rationale put forward was twofold i.e. they (Muslims) achieved Pakistan in the name of Islam and Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, had promised that an Islamic system would be introduced in the newly established state. Secondly, according to them, Islam provides a complete code of life and it had laid basic principles in each aspect of life including the basic guidance for formulating an Islamic Constitution. This article deals with the theoretical and practical aspects of the Islamic Constitution propounded by the scholars of JUI, JI and comparative analysis has been drawn in this regard.

ABSTRACTCoalescent gene trees have proven to be a powerful framework for formulating and solving problems in population genetics both in theory and practice. Using them, geneticists have been able to generate expectations for many attributes of a random sample of genotypes from a population given a model of the history of the population. This paper derives three new properties of coalescent gene trees that will help characterize the present-day impacts of historical events. Considering a single branch sampled at a given time ts in the past, it presents distributions describing 1) the length of time a branch sampled ts generations in the past had existed at the time of sampling, 2) the length of time that branch continues from time ts towards the present, and3) the the probability that the branch is ancestral to x individuals in a modern sample.

The current populist wave of electoral success has put democracy under pressure. Yet, whereas the tension between populism and democracy appears to be the main challenge of our times, the conflict over the basic principles of constitutional democracy is part of a long historical development. Which conflicts shape democracy today and have shaped it in the past? How do populist actors alter the dispute over democracy in times of globalisation? This anthology analyses the complex interaction between the theory and practice of democracy in Germany, Europe and the US. For the sake of interdisciplinarity, the book unites contributions from political science, communication science, law and research into contemporary history. With contributions by et al Sandra Wirth, Felix Rhein, Robin Graichen, Jens Weinhold-Fumoleau

A new sub-field in the archaeology of race has been emerging among historical archaeologists based in the US and South Africa. A review of this literature, put into play with some thoughts from Ralph Ellison and Franz Fanon, provides several ‘object lessons’ about the state of archaeological theory and practice, and the difficulties inherent in framing a material study of race. The literature exemplifies how archaeology is fast becoming an anachronistic critique of modernity that may hinder our ability to see difference in the past. At the same time, a brave new project of comparison might position us to contribute a unique perspective on the spiral of history.

Pancasila experiences ups and downs of development, not due to the weakness of the values contained therein, but rather leads to inconsistencies in its application. In line with the acceptance of the truth of noble values of Pancasila then drove the flow and spirit to make Pancasila as a paradigm. History also noted how from the past until now Pancasila often get a challenge that resulted in the crisis for the existence of the Indonesian nation. The challenge faced by Pancasila as the view of life and the foundation of the state is always directly proportional to the challenges faced by the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia as a whole. Paradigm is actually a way of view, values, methods, basic principles to solve a problem faced by a nation into the future. The results of research show First, Philosophically the essence of Pancasila as the paradigm of legal development contains a consequence that all aspects of legal development within the framework of national development should be based on the nature of Pancasila values; Secondly, As a legal development paradigm, Pancasila wants that development in society becomes the starting point of the existence of a legal product.
