Starting from the argument-based critique of one of the papers indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection, the article examines if there is a connection between quality of works, journals in which they are published, lists in which these journals feature and indices that list these articles, advertising authors who often do not deserve it. The paper deals with the untoward consequences of such a short-sighted practice and argues in favor of a constant revision of the lists and indices supported by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia, thus increasing the relevance of the lists and indexes applied as yardsticks of academic achievement.

<p>In this work we analyse variations in VLF/LF radio signal amplitudes recorded by the INFREP network in the period 16 November – 6 December, 2019 characterized by very intensive seismic activities in the Balkan peninsula, Crete, and Adriatic, Aegean and Black seas. Namely, 38 earthquakes with magnitude greater than 4.0 occurred in this area during the noticed period; the most intensive of them occurred on 26 and 27 November: three events in Albania (Mw= 6.4, 5.3, 5.1), one in Crete (Mw= 6), one in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Mw= 5.4) and two in Adriatic sea (Mw= 5.4, 5.3). We study both long- and short- term variations that are already recorded in earlier studies. The long-term variations relate to changes in the amplitude intensities in periods of several days and their existence is shown in many previous studies. The recent analyses also indicate short-term variations in signal amplitude noises started about several tents of minutes before the earthquake (Nina et al. 2020). In this work, we analyse different areas using INFREP network, which allow us to study local changes in the atmosphere. In order to examine possible precursors we considered longer time started and ended 10 days before and after the most intensive of the considered earthquakes, respectively.</p><p>This research is supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia, under the projects 176002 and III44002.</p><p>References</p><p>Nina, A., S. Abstract In accordance with priorities of sustainable development in Serbia, production and use of biomass is crucial for provision of annually renewable national sources of energy and for environmental quality conservation. Rural development has typically focused on improving agricultural production and promoting market orientation, however, as the examples of other countries in the EU accession process have shown (e.g. Slovakia), such an approach could threaten the survival of rural population. Biomass production is one of the key sectors with significant potential for diversification of rural economy. The results of multiannual research work supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia through national scientific projects and several international initiatives are summarized in this paper. The research activities focus on Miscanthus × giganteus Greef et Deu. The production potentials of miscanthus on fertile and degraded soils were investigated since 2009 in experimental plots established on moderate and extremely degraded lands in Serbia, applying various agrotechnical measures in different ecological conditions. The results show that fertile agricultural land as well as moderate degraded areas provide suitable conditions for miscanthus biomass and viable rhizomes production for energy and ecoremediation purposes.

The curriculum is the starting point for effective teaching planning. The outcome of the teaching process in secondary vocational schools depends, to a large extent, on the conception of the curriculum prescribed by state bodies, which is the case with most countries of the Western Balkans, including Serbia. The paper deals with the issue of English for specific purposes in secondary vocational schools, the representation of English for specific purposes in the curriculum of secondary vocational schools in Kosovo and Metohija, which are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia. The research describes approaches to curriculum development and planning for English for specific purposes. The analysis of plans and programs for the English language showed that the needs of students of vocational secondary schools of technical orientation in terms of English for specific purposes are not fully met. The research defines the components that are important to include in order to harmonize goals, forms and educational activities that will improve students' knowledge and prepare them for future professional roles.

The subject of this paper is the analysis of cooperation between science and business in the Republic of Serbia. The main goal of the paper is to identify the level of cooperation, the achieved results and the scientific areas in which the cooperation is being carried out, through the analysis of the current state of cooperation between science and business. The paper should serve as the starting point for future research, where the effects of profitability of investments in science at macro and micro level will be evaluated. The analysis used the official data on the achieved results in scientific research activities from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, and data from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development. The obtained results showed that Serbia has a potential in the science sector, but that it is not sufficiently used by the economy since researchers focus exclusively on the production of scientific work.

AbstractThe author of this article aims at comparing the publication activity of scholars from Poland, Slovakia and Hungary in education in the period of 1994-2014. Based on the comparative analyses, the author sought to determine: (1) trends in the scholarly performance in the analysed field of study (increase/decrease), (2) leading scientific institutions with the largest number of publications in the field of education, (3) scale of internationalization (international co-authorship). Furthermore (4) the author discusses the participation of scientists from the countries under analysis in the European (EU) and worldwide circulation of scholarly papers in the field of education. To perform the analyses, first the representative source had to be chosen. Considering that what is valued in science, also in Europe, is the prestige of a journal in which a paper is published while the overall science hierarchy is primarily based on the global grading of scholarly journals, we have chosen to use the data from the Thomson/Reuters database (Web of ScienceTM Core Collection) containing an index of selected papers with the so-called impact factor (IF), a well-known global indication of citation impact. Several publications in the journals with high IF is a confirmation of the high quality of scientific research while it also determines the level of internationalization of science. This study was conducted over twenty years (1994-2014) to make sure it was representative of the publishing activity and international output of scholars from the countries under analysis.
