Tradisi Larung Ari-Ari Sebagai Ritual Kelahiran Bayi di Kota Surakarta
There is a tradition of drifting the placenta of a baby in the city of Surakarta, where there are still some people who do it or prefer other ways to bury the placenta on the ground, because the river in Surakarta City is increasingly polluted. The purpose of this study is to describe how the meaning of the tradition of drifting the umbilical baby for today's society in the city of Surakarta. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach or method with data derived from interviews with respondents about the research variables obtained from the answers to the interviews. Based on the results of the study showed that the meaning of the washed away placenta for the people of Surakarta City is that the washed away placenta is considered free and united with water and follows the surging flow of water, this is likened to a mirror for the life of the baby later, which after becoming an adult has broad knowledge and free and resistant to waves are also integrated with the community such as the placenta that integrates with river water. This research can be used as a cultural reference in preserving the arid culture in Surakarta.
