Histiaia is mentioned twice in the period of epic poetry as an independent political body with ideological criteria and institutions rooted in a rich religious mythology that drew deeply on its Ionian inheritance and foundation. The present study offers a thorough investigation of Histiaia‘s historical course during the period from the eighth century BC until the later Roman period. The significance for Hellenism of the naval battle of Artemisium was decisive despite the violent destruction of Histaia‘s demes. Subsequently, Histaia acquired a metropolitan character with many cultural institutions and a clear mode of self-government, taking as its primary objective the enforcement of the institutional conditions agreed by its six phyles, of which the Aeinaftes and Mekistis are known to us today. After the city had the status of an Athenian cleruchy for approximately forty years, it returned embittered to the political formation of the Greek city-states. The effort to detect archaeological and topographic data of the forty-three cities, which together delimit their geographical range, and identify the location of Classical Histiaia in the pre-cleruchy period is one of the objectives of this study. Among other topics discussed are the excavation sites of three large demes, first in order to identify urban elements that reveal the formation of the metropolis and its mode of activity, and second to investigate the historical topography from the Geometric era until the Roman imperial period across the entire territory under Histiaia‘s control. Also demonstrated in this study is that in addition to information about the geomorphological relief extractable from both coastal and mountainous areas, as well as the historical outline drawn from ancient sources, we can also glean detailed knowledge of architectural influences and the origins of the funerary monuments that reveal the history of the urban fabric, as do also the sculptural works associated with it. Furthermore, this study deals with the epigraphical evidence relating to the institutions of the city and particularly those of the territory of Histiaia that were instrumental in the promotion of political-economic conditions which would in turn nurture peace in the region of Euboea. Histiaia‘s governing system, epigraphical evidence and monetary policy is presented in such a way as to accommodate new evidence the will emerge that in the future to strengthen the research axis established here for the study of the political system that prevailed in northern Euboea for at least three centuries.

From ancient times till nowadays information plays a key role in the political processes. The beginning of XXI century demonstrated the transformation of global security from military to information, social etc. aspects. The widening of pandemic demonstrated the weaknesses of contemporary authoritarian states and the power of human-oriented states. During the World War I the theoretical and practical interest toward political manipulation and political propaganda grew definitely. After 1918 the situation developed very fast and political propaganda became the part of political influence. XX century entered into the political history as the millennium of propaganda. The collapse of the USSR and socialist system brought power to new political actors. The global architecture of the world has changed. Former Soviet republic got independence and tried to separate from Russia. And Ukraine was between them. The Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine was the start point for a number of processes in world politics. But the most important was the fact that the role and the place of information as the challenge to world security was reevaluated. The further annexation of Crimea, the attempt to legitimize it by the comparing with the referendums in Scotland and Catalonia demonstrated the willingness of Russian Federation to keep its domination in the world. The main difference between the referendums in Scotland and in Catalonia was the way of Russian interference. In 2014 (Scotland) tried to delegitimised the results of Scottish referendum because they were unacceptable for it. But in 2017 we witness the huge interference of Russian powers in Spain internal affairs, first of all in spreading the independence moods in Catalonia. The main conclusion is that the world has to learn some lessons from Scottish and Catalonia cases and to be ready to new challenges in world politics in a format of information threats.

This study examines why and how Chinese characters spread into Korea. It subsequently conducts a comparative analysis of Korean and Chinese children’s textbooks with a focus on Yu Hap from the perspective of the acceptance and acculturation of Chinese characters. It also explores how commonly used the characters in Yu Hap are, and the text’s learning value as one of Korea’s children’s textbooks. Yu Hap is very significant as the first written language textbook published in Korea. A comparative analysis of the characters used in four children’s books published in Korea found that the characters in Yu Hap are very common, and the text has a high learning value. Approximately 50% of the characters in San Bai Qian and Yu Hap are the same, showing that both China and Korea had similar perceptions of the characters in common use. A very significant proportion of characters overlap in Basic Chinese Character for Educational Use, List of Common Words in Modern Chinese, and Yu Hap; this supports the idea that the same characters have continued to be used from ancient times to the present day.

Objective. Keratosis pilaris (KP) is a common condition which can frequently be cosmetically disturbing. Topical treatments can be used with limited efficacy. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of fractional carbon dioxide (CO2) laser for the treatment of KP.Patients and Methods. A prospective, randomized, single-blinded, intraindividual comparative study was conducted on adult patients with KP. A single session of fractional CO2laser was performed to one side of arm whereas the contralateral side served as control. Patients were scheduled for follow-up at 4 and 12 weeks after treatment. Clinical improvement was graded subjectively by blinded dermatologists. Patients rated treatment satisfaction at the end of the study.Results. Twenty patients completed the study. All patients stated that the laser treatment improved KP lesions. At 12-week follow-up, 30% of lesions on the laser-treated side had moderate to good improvement according to physicians’ global assessment (p=0.02). Keratotic papules and hyperpigmentation appeared to respond better than the erythematous component. Four patients with Fitzpatrick skin type V developed transient pigmentary alteration.Conclusions. Fractional CO2laser treatment may be offered to patients with KP. Dark-skinned patients should be treated with special caution.
