Introduction: Knowledge on under-five childhood immunization has been identified as a key factor in determining understanding and compliance to the schedule. Understanding the current levels of knowledge and introducing a health intervention to improve the level will benefit the population to be healthier and reduce morbidity. Materials and Method: A quasi-experimental study was conducted in nurseries in Putrajaya and Cyberjaya, Malaysia from January 2016 to January 2018. 98 respondents from Putrajaya were given the technology based intervention and 98 from Cyberjaya were the wait-listed control group. Respondents answered a validated, self-administered questionnaire at baseline, immediate post-intervention and 3 months post-intervention that were specifically targeted to examine their levels of knowledge on under five childhood intervention. Results: Data was analysed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Version 23. The level of knowledge at baseline was 58.9% for the intervention group and 61.7% for the control group with no significant difference between both groups (p=0.651). Immediate post intervention showed a significant difference (p<0.001) between the intervention group (97.7%) and control group (54.9%). As for 3 months post-intervention the intervention group was 95.5% and the control was at 85.1% (p<0.001). Conclusion: The level of knowledge improved after receiving the health intervention module and was effective in the increasing of knowledge among the respondents. However, there are still gaps in research that must be addressed in future studies to help further improve knowledge on under-five childhood immunization schedule.

Objectives: We aimed to develop and evaluate the efficacy of a health education program for increasing knowledge, changing attitudes and promoting preventive practices to reduce the incidence of RTIs among Malaysian Hajj pilgrims.Methods: A quasi-experimental study was conducted among 132 Hajj pilgrims attending Hajj orientation programme organized by a private Hajj companies. Hajj pilgrims were sequentia lly enrolled and assigned to receive smartphone health education application in the intervent ion group (n = 66) and another different smartphone application on general Hajj process in the control group (n = 66). Data were collected from August 2018 to April 2019 at baseline prior to departure and post-intervention, immediately after return from Saudi Arabia using a validated questionnaire.Results: There was no significant difference with respect to socio-demographic characterist ics, KAP of the respondents in the intervention and control group at baseline. However, there was significant improvement in knowledge in the intervention group compared to the control group, based on time (p = 0.005, ἠ2 = 0.075) and group and time interaction (p = 0.031, ἠ2 = 0.046). Likewise, there was significant improvement in attitude based on time (p = 0.035, ἠ2 = 0.044). Similarly, there was significant main effect in practice based on time (p = <0.001, ἠ2 = 0.155) and interaction of group with time (p = 0.042, ἠ2 = 0.041).International Journal of Human and Health Sciences Supplementary Issue: 2019 Page: 30

Abstract Background The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of “Spatially separated speech in noise” auditory training on the ability of speech perception in noise among bimodal fitting users. The assumption was that the rehabilitation can enhance spatial hearing and hence speech in noise perception. This study was an interventional study, with a pre/post-design. Speech recognition ability was assessed with the specific tests. After performing the rehabilitation stages in the intervention group, the speech tests were again implemented, and by comparing the pre- and post-intervention data, the effect of auditory training on the speech abilities was assessed. Twenty-four children of 8–12 years who had undergone cochlear implantation and continuously used bimodal fitting were investigated in two groups of control and intervention. Results The results showed a significant difference between the groups in different speech tests after the intervention, which indicated that the intervention group have improved more than the control group. Conclusion It can be concluded that “Spatially separated speech in noise” auditory training can improve the speech perception in noise in bimodal fitting users. In general, this rehabilitation method is useful for enhancing the speech in noise perception ability.

Background: Immunization is one of the most cost-effective public health interventions to reduce child mortality and morbidity associated with infectious diseases. The objective of this study was to determine the perceptions of caregivers on immunization in Ntungamo district.Methods: Quasi-experimental study was used with health centres assigned to intervention and control groups. Purposive sampling was used to select the two counties where the study was done. Proportional sampling was done to get study samples from each health facility, while systematic sampling was done to get study participants. A total of 787 children from twelve health facilities provided the study sample. A post intervention evaluation was conducted to determine the effect of these interventions. Association of variables was tested using Mann Whitney U-test and Chi-square.Results: On benefits, most caregivers in the intervention group (85.3%) and in the control group (54.3%) regarded immunization as very highly and moderately beneficial to their children respectively. On risks, most caregivers in the intervention group (85.5%) and control group (43.1%) regarded the risk factor associated with immunization as very low and moderate respectively. From hypothesis testing, there was a significant difference on the perceived benefits and risks of immunization between the intervention and control group.Conclusions: Most caregivers in the intervention and control group regarded immunization as very highly beneficial and moderately to their children respectively. Most of the caregivers in the intervention and control group regarded the risk factor associated with immunization as very low and moderate respectively.

Abstract Background: The aim of the present study was to assess readiness to become or stay physically active according to the Stages of Change Model.Methods: The present quasi-experimental study was conducted on 100 women working in the healthcare centres of Bandar Abbas, Iran. The sampling method is clustering in type. The subjects were assigned into two groups of intervention and control. The collected data were analysed by SPSS-16 software using descriptive and inferential statistics, including independent-sample t-test, paired-sample t-test and Chi-square test.Results: Before the educational intervention, 19 subjects (0.38%) from the intervention group showed to have regular physical activity (4-5 stages). This number changed to 29 (0.58%) and 25 (0.50%) after three months and six months of intervention. A statistically significant difference was found before the intervention and 3 and 6 months afterwards (P˂.001). In the control group, no statistically significant difference was found between the pre-intervention and post-intervention (three months (P=.351) and six months (P=.687).Conclusion: The educational intervention based on the stages of behaviour change model showed to be effective in promoting the physical activity of employed women. These findings may benefit health education researchers and practitioners who tend to develop innovative theory-based interventions and strategies to increase the level of physical activity in women.

The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of a pressure injury prevention guide used in a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) on the occurrence of pressure injuries. The design is a pre-post intervention with a control group and a prospective intervention group. Pressure injuries occurred on 9.4% of children in the nontreatment group, and in 3.6% of children in the treatment group. There was a statistically significant difference in the occurrence of pressure injuries between the nontreatment group and the treatment group ( p = .033). The average Braden Q pressure injury score was 12.20 ± 2.280 at the beginning of the intensive care hospitalization, and 13.73 ± 3.312 at discharge in the treatment group ( p < .001). The results show that the risk of pressure injuries was reduced and pressure injuries occurred later when an evidence-based pressure injury prevention guide was used.

Abstract Background Evidence indicates the lower intake of fruits and vegetables than the recommended daily amount. Study aimed at determining the effects of peer education intervention on the consumption of fruits and vegetable in housewives. Methods A quasi-experimental was conducted with 130 housewives referring to health care centers in Bandar Abbas, Iran. Sixty-five subjects were recruited in each of the intervention and the control groups. Intervention group were divided into three subgroups each receiving a seven-sessions educational programs (lecturing and group discussion) through peers about the importance of benefits of fruits and vegetables consumption. Participants were followed for two months. Data were collected using a questionnaire in two stages of pre- and post-intervention. Differences in the outcome before and after the intervention were tested using T-test and paired T-test. Results The daily servings of fruits and vegetables in the intervention group increased from 1.73 to 4.20 and in the control group from 1.96 to 2.16; a statistically significant difference was also observed between the groups (P < 0.001). After the intervention benefits and self-efficacy of fruits and vegetables consumption significantly increased and perceived barriers of fruits and vegetables consumption significantly decreased in the intervention group (P < 0.001). Conclusion Peer education improves benefits and self-efficacy, reduces barriers, and increases the daily servings of fruits and vegetables in housewives.

ABSTRAKKeberhasilan pengobatan diabetes melitus tidak hanya dipengaruhi oleh kualitas pelayanan kesehatan, keterampilan petugasnya, sikap, dan pola hidup pasien, tetapi dipengaruhi juga oleh kepatuhan pasien terhadap pengobatannya. Tingkat kepatuhan minum obat pasien diabetes mellitus di Indonesia mayoritas masih berada dibawah 50%. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengukur pengaruh edukasi melalui media booklet terhadap pengetahuan dan kepatuhan pasien diabetes melitus tipe 2. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT). Populasi yang didapat dari penelitian ini sebanyak 40 orang dengan kelompok kontrol 20 orang dan kelompok intervensi 20 orang. Kelompok kontrol merupakan kelompok yang tidak mendapatkan booklet, sedangkan kelompok intervensi adalah kelompok yang mendapatkan booklet sebagi media edukasi. Pengetahuan dan kepatuhan responden diukur melalui kuesioner yang diberikan sebelum (pretest) dan 2 minggu kemudian (posttest). Rata-rata skor pengetahuan dan kepatuhan pre-test dibandingkan dengan skor post-test dengan menggunakan uji Wilcoxon. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, terjadi perbedaan tingkat pengetahuan dan kepatuhan yang signifikan (p value < 0,001) antara sebelum dan sesudah pemberian booklet pada kelompok intervensi dan tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada tingkat pengetahuan (p value = 0,83) dan kepatuhan (p value = 0,317) pada kelompok kontrol. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa media booklet dapat meningkatkan tingkat pengetahuan dan kepatuhan pada pasien diabetes melitus.Kata-kata kunci: Diabetes melitus, pengetahuan, kepatuhan, bookletABSTRACTThe success of a treatment of diabetes mellitus is not only influenced by the quality of health services, the skills of its officers, attitudes, and lifestyle of patients, but it is also influenced by patient adherence to treatment. The level of medication compliance among diabetes patients in Indonesia were still below 50%. The purpose of this study was to measure the effect of education through booklet media on the knowledge and compliance of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The type of research used was Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT). The population obtained from this study were 40 people with a control group of 20 people and an intervention group of 20 people. The control group was the group that did not get the booklet, while the intervention group was the group that received the booklet as an educational medium. Knowledge and compliance of respondents was measured through questionnaires given before (pretest) and 2 weeks later (posttest). The average score of knowledge and adherence between pretest and posttest will be compared using Wilcoxon analysis. Based on the results of data analysis with the Wilcoxon test, there was a significant difference in the level of knowledge and compliance (p value < 0.001) between before and after booklet administration in the intervention group and no significant difference in knowledge level (p value = 0.83) and compliance (p value = 0.317) in the control group. It can be concluded that the booklet media can increase the level of knowledge and compliance in diabetes mellitus patients.Keywords: Diabetes mellitus, knowledge, compliance, booklet

Expatriates face a unique set of determinants to health which may influence their level of knowledge, perception of available preventative health care alternatives and their health seeking behaviors. The objective of this study is to understand the effect of an email communication intervention on expatriate parents’ level of knowledge of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). Repeated measurement of knowledge was conducted pre- and post-intervention among parents who received the study intervention (group 1) and those who received standard care (group 2). Intervention effect was measured by any change in knowledge within and between groups. The group 1 had a significant rise in knowledge mean from baseline to first and then second follow-up (<em>m </em>= 0.57 (SD 0.39), <em>m </em>= 0.84 (SD 0.16) and <em>m </em>= 0.87 (SD 0.11), respectively). In addition, after receiving the intervention, group 1 felt they had sufficient information to make an informed decision of whether to vaccinate their child(ren), with a significant difference from baseline to first post test, (χ² (1) = 8.50, <em>p &lt; </em>0.05). Based on an increase in knowledge, the study’s email intervention proved effective mode to disseminating HPV-related information.

Introduction. Prevalence of children under five with malnutrition is an indicator of Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) that should be reach in a region (Regency/City) in 2015. Prevalence of nutrition base on weight for height (WFH) in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta showed that children under five prevalence with very lean nutrition status was about 2,6 percent and lean about 6,5 percent. Community Therapeutic Care combining three approaches to handling under five malnutrition children including community intervention, home based treatment for under five malnutrition children without complication and stabilitation center for under five malnutrition children with complication. The aim of this research was to find out the changing of malnutrition children under five through home care program in Yogyakarta. Method. This research used quantitative method through home care intervention for children under five with malnutrition and was conducted by nurse in public health center. Design of this research was pretest-posttest control group design. The population of this research was all children under five with malnutrition or not complication. Sample divided into two groups, 35 children for the intervention group and 25 children for control group. Analysis used was Paired t-test and independent t-test. Results. The result showed that before home care intervention, there is no significant difference of two groups. The result after intervention for three month with 7 times of visiting, home care intervention can increase nutritional status of children under five with malnutrition. The value of Independent t-test for control group and intervention group was significant with p<0,05. Discussion. The researcher conclude that Home Care has effect to increase nutrition status of children under five with malnutrition and also Z score value which is weight for height (WFH) was increase. Keywords: Home Care, Nutrition status , Malnutrition.

Introduction: Mechanical and chemical debridement had been practiced as one of the management for chronic periodontitis. Recent interest and advances in the field of alternative medicine has promoted the use of various herbal and natural products for multiple uses in the field of medicine. As for it, coconut water is one of the potential natural sources that have various health benefits.  Materials and method:  Randomized control study was chosen as study design in this research project. 12 patients who have moderate to severe chronic periodontitis were selected from patients whom attended Polyclinic Kulliyyah of Dentistry, IIUM Kuantan Campus from November 2016 to January 2018. After stratified random sampling done, the subjects divided into 2 groups; Intervention Group and Control Group. All patients will go for ultrasonic scaling and root planning by using hand instruments. 6 patients in Intervention Group were given fresh coconut water to drink during daytime. The first re-assessment was done after 6 weeks. The control group of another 6 patients didn’t receive any medicament. Paired sample t-test was used to analyse the pre and post intervention data. The study had obtained ethical approval from IREC (IREC 849).  Results:  Probing depth (PD) at mid-buccal site and bleeding on probing (BoP) shown significant result (p<0.05 ) in intervention group. There is no significant difference noted in the control groups, which are for PD, BoP and Plaque Score (PS) variables. Conclusion: Coconut water has potential benefit in reducing the periodontal pockets with chronic periodontitis as an adjunct after mechanical debridement.
