The purpose of this study was to identify the preference level of the human values that students from a higher education institution endorse during August 2016-June 2017 school year, based on the Portrait Value Questionnaire. For this purpose, the basic values of Benevolence, Universalism, Stimulation, Power, Security, Tradition, Hedonism, Self-Direction, Achievement, and Conformity were studied. The study was exploratory, following a nonexperimental cross-sectional design. The sample was composed of 321 students from a higher education institution in Mexico. 67.6% (217) of the students were female, whereas 32.4% (104) were male. Their ages ranged from 18 to 30 years old. The Portrait Value Questionnaire devised by Shalom Schwartz was administered to them. The most important findings revealed that the basic values of Hedonism, Benevolence, and Self-Direction were highly preferred by the students, whereas the basic value of Achievement scored a preference level below the average. These findings highlighted the importance of identifying the portrait values of university students, so higher education institutions can establish appropriate strategies and actions that foster the students’ development in order to make them professionals with values.

This study investigated the relationship between job insecurity, sense of coherence and general health of employees in a higher education institution in South Africa. A cross-sectional survey design was used. A random sample (n = 229) was taken from academic and non-academic staff members of the institution. The Job Insecurity Inventory, General Health Questionnaire and Orientation to Life Questionnaire were administered. The results showed that a negative relationship exists between job insecurity and general health, while a positive relationship exists between sense of coherence and general health. High job insecurity and a weak sense of coherence predicted ill health. Based on the findings of this study, it is recommended that higher education institutions should attend to job insecurity by communicating effectively with employees, in order to clarify expectations, and ensure support from supervisors. Developing the employees’ sense of coherence can positively impact on their wellness. Owing to the cross-sectional design of the study, no conclusions regarding causality was drawn.

The present study aimed to map the evidence to provide an overview of actions implemented/executed and scales used in public higher education institutions to promote worker health. A scoping review based on the PCC (Population, Concept, and Context) mnemonic was conducted in PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus and Virtual Health Library (VHL). Population included workers from a higher education institution, the concept referred to studies focusing on the assessment of quality of life and health promotion actions and the context to higher education institutions. Electronic searches were held on December 2019. A qualitative synthesis of the data extracted from included studies (i.e. author, year, study design, sample, country, aims, action implemented/performed, thematic focus, evaluation) was performed. Electronic searches retrieved 3,330 articles that were screened by tittles and abstracts. Of these, 34 studies were fully appraised, of which four reported that actions implemented/executed related to sedentariness, posture and stress. The studies show 49 scales were identified to measuring at least one quality of life item. Through this scoping review the available evidence to provide an overview of actions implemented/executed and scales used in public higher education institutions to promote worker health. Future studies should consider more rigorous designs and objective measures to measure the quality of life of these professionals, and develop target interventions based on factors associated with the work. It is also necessary to evaluate whether the strategies work.

This study describes how the Intranet of a higher education institution can be used as a quality manual. The study is based on process management. The process architecture can be used as a structure for the Intranet. This Intranet also includes detailed process descriptions and makes them available for management, personnel, and students. The flow charts and process cards provide managers with more awareness and control over their responsibilities and ensure that the objectives and high quality can be achieved. The results of this study are useful for those who want to develop quality manuals for higher education institutions.

The purpose of article is to justify the rationale for applying the term «Bologna acquis» to nominate the corps of documents generated in the course of Bologna process that resulted in the formation of European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and community of higher education stakeholders who share and operate by Bologna values, principles, norms and guidelines. The author compares «Bologna acquis» with acquis communautaire, Council of Europe acquis, Schengen acquis, proves that all four have a lot of in common and draws a conclusion that the use of term «Bologna acquis» is acceptable and reasonable. The article demonstrates that Bologna acquis - similar to acquis communautaire and Council of Europe acquis - is divided into two large types: those that have a binding character and those of a non-binding nature. Nevertheless, non-binding Bologna acquis cannot be ignored by the community to whom it is addressed and is to be considered in the course of reforms and modernization of national systems of higher education and higher education institutions as its constituents. Comparison of Bologna acquis with acquis communautaire, Council of Europe acquis, Schengen acquis is the novelty of the article, as well as delineation of similar features between the four above mentioned acquis. The author mentions that the purpose of all four (among other things) is the formation of a community that voluntarily participates in the generation of acquis and agrees to live by its rules and norms. One of conclusions has practical significance: while formation of EHEA and its community simultaneously takes place at the supranational, national and institutional levels, the speed of integration of each separate higher education institution may differ; accordingly different scenarios could emerge: a certain higher education institution may integrate with EHEA faster than the national system of higher education in general, and vice versa: while the national systems of higher education has advanced in integration with EHEA, some higher education institutions will be lagging behind reforms at the national level.

The unemployment among university students become main issues in Malaysia since the increasing number of umnemployed graduates from higher education institution. In order to minimize this issue, entrepreneurship become one of the main solutions especially for higher education institution in Malaysia. This including the Kolej Islam Antarabangsa Sultan Ismail Petra (KIAS), Kelantan, Malaysia which provided entrepreneurship as main core subjects for their program of studies. Thus, this research tends to examine the factors that influence entrepreneurial intention among diploma student at Kolej Islam Antarabangsa Sultan Ismail Petra (KIAS) by using The Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). Quantitative research design has been where 100 set of questionnaires has been distributed to target respondents in order to get the necessary information. All data were panalyzed using SmartPLS software. The finding shows that attitude and entrepreneurial education are significant towards entrepreneurship intention. Therefore, this study is expected to provide a significant insight towards higher institutions, public as well as government about entrepreneurial intention.

There are existing approaches to evaluate the results of higher education institutions activity described in the article. Legislative basis of the task of evaluating productivity and frugality of using budget funds by higher education institutions is built. Content of notions “productivity” and “frugality” concerning usage of budget funds is specified. To evaluate productivity and frugality of usage of budget funds by higher education institutions necessary instrumental tools are formed. They contain requirements for indicators, descriptive and phenomenological approaches, structural and matrix methods. Some requirements for indicators to evaluate productivity and frugality of usage of budget funds by higher education institutions are suggested. They are informational adequacy, content stability, coherence, quantitative form, simplicity of calculation, unambiguousness of calculation, ability to find primary data for calculation etc. There are main kinds of activity of higher education institutions considered to evaluate productivity and frugality of usage of budget funds. They are educational, innovative, scientific, and methodical activities. There are some quantitative indicators suggested for every considered kind of activity of higher education institutions in the article. To find risks of unproductive and non-frugal usage of budget funds by higher institutions necessary facts and signals are suggested. Existence of such facts and signals in activity of any higher education institution can be considered as evidence of additional risks including risks of corruption.

Introduction. Under conditions of today the labor management system in the institution of higher education is tasked with finding new more effective forms of labor, how to increase the motivation of workers, material and moral interest of employees in work, reduce or even eliminate potential conflicts, how to ensure consistency in management personnel activities and performers, etc. Purpose. The purpose of the article is to investigate the features of ensuring efficiency of social and labor relations of university personnel during its outsourcing. Results. The features of ensuring the effectiveness of social and labor relations of the higher education institution personnel during its outsourcing are considered. The main problems that affect the effectiveness of social and labor relations during outsourcing the personnel of higher education institution are highlighted. The basic criteria and corresponding indicators of social and labor relations optimization and labor processes during outsourcing of the personnel of higher education institution are characterized: economic, social, psychophysiological, technical. It is noted that the results of this study may be useful to specialists dealing with the problems of increasing the efficiency of outsourcing and its use in higher education institutions under modern conditions. Conclusion. The effectiveness of social and labor relations during outsourcing the higher education institution personnel is defined as the aggregate usefulness and benefit of its implementation in relation to the additional costs of its implementation, as well as when comparing with the previous result of the activity. By its essence optimization of labor processes comes down to achieving complex of economic, social, psychophysiological and technical goals, about achievement level of which necessary to draw a conclusion on the basis of certain criteria. The concrete expression of these criteria through a system of empirical indicators needs further elaboration, so there is a need to develop the method for evaluating effectiveness of social and labor relations when outsourcing the higher education institution personnel.

This article brings within two purposes. First it validated the scale of the New Ecological Paradigm (NEP) and then analyzed the ecocentrist and anthropocentric attitudes of university students from a Brazilian higher education institution. The original NPE scale of 15 items was used, in the form of a questionnaire and applied in a sample of 241 university students. Before the self-completion of the questionnaires, the university students did not receive the basic concepts of environmental attitudes. Confirmatory factor analysis techniques were used to test the structural model and statistical procedures to describe the sample as to its properties of similarities between the groups of students. The NEP was reduced to 13 items, proving to be reliable and valid to investigate structured and multidimensional environmental attitudes of university students. When analyzing the segmentation of university students, it was identified that women presented a more intense ecocentrist attitude than men. For the other segmentation groups in relation to age range, area of knowledge, semester in progress and course period, they did not present statistically significant differences. However, overall, the scores of university students indicated more ecocentrist than anthropocentrist attitudes. The convenience sample of part of the courses offered by the higher education institution may cause a bias in the research, considering as a limitation of this study. However, with the confirmation of the two-factor model, the results indicate consistency and guide future research to activities related to the environment, such as sustainable tourism, preservation against environmental impacts, among others.

Abstract Background In Lesotho, cervical cancer is the most common female cancer and leading cause of death amongst women. In 2019, the annual number of new cancer cases was 477 and 346 women died from cancer related complications in Lesotho. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge and attitudes of young women towards cervical cancer screening at a selected higher education institution in Lesotho. Methods A quantitative cross-sectional survey design was used to collect data using an interviewer administered semi-structured questionnaire from 80 young women. Random sampling using a fishbowl technique was used to select study respondents. Permission to conduct the study was sought and granted from relevant authorities. Informed consent was sought from the respondents who were identified using codes and participated voluntarily. Data were analysed using Microsoft excel and presented using proportions and diagrams. Results Fifty percent (n=40) of the women did not know cervical cancer screening tests, 70% (n=56) did not know about the frequency of screening, whilst 75% (n=60) knew that human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine is used to prevent cervical cancer. Additionally, 95% (n=76) had not screened for cervical cancer, 65% (n=52) perceived cervical cancer screening as painful, 35% (n=28) said it caused discomfort, and 95% (n=76) needed more information on cervical cancer screening. Conclusions Even though some respondents had knowledge on cervical cancer and its prevention, the uptake of the screening procedure was low. Negative experiences of pain and discomfort were reported amongst those who had the procedure done. This heightens the need for health education and incorporating regular cervical cancer screening in health care services to increase reassurance, counselling, and the uptake of the procedure amongst young women.
