The subject matter of this work concerns the propagation of the electro-magnetic fields through strongly anisotropic media, in the three dimensional setting. We concentrate on the asymptotic behavior for the solutions of the Maxwell equations when the electric permittivity tensor is strongly anisotropic. We derive limit models and prove their well-posedness. We appeal to the variational framework and study the propagation speed of the solutions. We prove that almost all the electro-magnetic energy concentrates inside the propagation cone of the limit model.

We analyze a model for non-isothermal superconductivity, derived independently by G. Maugin, and K. Miya and S. A. Zhou. The model is described by a parabolic system based on the Time-Dependent Ginzburg–Landau (TDGL) equation, the Maxwell equations, and an energy equation such that the Clausius–Duhem inequality holds. The principal unknown fields are the complex valued Ginzburg–Landau order parameter $\psi$, the magnetic vector potential $A$, and the temperature $T$. A significant feature for this model is that it accounts for the interchange of thermal and electro-magnetic energies through Joule heating. The sensitivity of superconducting materials to thermal variations is a major obstacle to their applications. In practice one sees that time varying currents and magnetic fields generate thermal energy, producing ‘hot spots’ and increasing the temperature. This can result in suppressing superconductivity, i.e. $\psi$ tending to $0$. Our principal result is that we exhibit this phenomenon. We prove that if the electro-magnetic energy of the superconductor is sufficiently large at time $t\,{=}\,0$ then $T$ will rise beyond the critical temperature, $T_c$, and $\psi\to 0$ as $t\to\infty$. Earlier analytic work investigating electro-dynamic effects in superconductivity centered on an isothermal model consisting of the TDGL equation and Maxwell equations. This setting takes into account just electro-magnetic effects and produces markedly different evolutions.

The settlement of Iceland in the Viking Age has been the focus of much research, but the composition of the founding population remains the subject of debate. Some lines of evidence suggest that almost all the founding population were Scandinavian, while others indicate a mix of Scandinavians and people of Scottish and Irish ancestry. To explore this issue further, we used three-dimensional techniques to compare the basicrania of skeletons from archaeological sites in Iceland, Scandinavia, and the British Isles. Our analyses yielded two main results. One was that the founding population likely consisted of roughly equal numbers of Scandinavians and people from the British Isles. The other was that the immigrants who originated from the British Isles included individuals of southern British ancestry as well as individuals of Scottish and Irish ancestry. The first of these findings is consistent with the results of recent analyses of modern and ancient DNA, while the second is novel. Our study, therefore, strengthens the idea that the founding population was a mix of Scandinavians and people from the British Isles, but also raises a new possibility regarding the regions from which the settlers originated.

In order to meet the needs of living which consists of primary as well as secondary needs, human can work in either a formal or an informal job. One of the informal jobs that is became the subject of this research was to become an ojek driver. Ojek is a ranting motorcycle.  Revenue of ojek drivers, accordingly, should be well managed following the concept of financial management. This research was conducted for the driver of the online motorcycle drivers as well as the regular motorcycle drivers they are called “The Ojek”. Ojek’s location is in Kecamatan (subdistrict) Duren Sawit, East Jakarta with 70 drivers of ojeks. The online ojeks earn an average of Rp 100,000 per day, can save Rp 11,000 to 21,000 per day, while, the regular ojek has an average income per day slightly lower amounted to Rp 78,500, this kind of ojeks generally have other businesses and always record the outflow of theirs money. Both the online and regular ojeks feel a tight competition in getting passengers, but their income can help the family finances and both ojeks want a cooperative especially savings and loans, especially to overcome the urgent financial difficulties. Almost all rivers, do not dare to borrow money. They are afraid of can not refund the money as scheduled.

Covid-19 is an unprecedented crisis that has affected almost all industry players including education. It has transformed our way of life and introduced a new normal to how things are done. As an effort to contain the outbreak of pandemic Covid-19, universities have shifted to online learning. In line with this, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) has decided to execute open and distance learning (ODL) for the current semester until 31 December 2020. ODL introduces a different learning environment as compared to the traditional classroom that requires students to be self-reliant in learning new things. Hence, the purpose of the study is to explore students’ experiences in the process of knowledge transfer through ODL specifically for accounting subjects. A questionnaire was distributed to students who were taking the subject of Introduction to Financial Accounting and Introduction to Cost Accounting in UiTM Pahang Kampus Raub and a total of 206 responses were received. The study found over half of the students enjoy learning through ODL but only one-third were looking forward to having ODL for the next semester. Poor internet connection is the main reason found in the study that makes ODL not preferred by the students. At the same time, few features were highlighted by the students about ODL such as the advantage of pre-recorded video to catch up the new material and flexibility for them to learn at their own pace.

Drawings, illustrations, and field sketches play an important role in Earth Science since they are used to record field observations, develop interpretations, and communicate results in reports and scientific publications. Drawing geology in the field furthermore facilitates observation and maximizes the value of fieldwork. Every geologist, whether a student, academic, professional, or amateur enthusiast, will benefit from the ability to draw geological features accurately. This book describes how and what to draw in geology. Essential drawing techniques, together with practical advice in creating high quality diagrams, are described the opening chapters. How to draw different types of geology, including faults, folds, metamorphic rocks, sedimentary rocks, igneous rocks, and fossils, are the subjects of separate chapters, and include descriptions of what are the important features to draw and describe. Different types of sketch, such as drawings of three-dimensional outcrops, landscapes, thin-sections, and hand-specimens of rocks, crystals, and minerals, are discussed. The methods used to create technical diagrams such as geological maps and cross-sections are also covered. Finally, modern techniques in the acquisition and recording of field data, including photogrammetry and aerial surveys, and digital methods of illustration, are the subject of the final chapter of the book. Throughout, worked examples of field sketches and illustrations are provided as well as descriptions of the common mistakes to be avoided.

AbstractThis paper is concerned with the inverse scattering problem for the three-dimensional Maxwell equations in bi-anisotropic periodic structures. The inverse scattering problem aims to determine the shape of bi-anisotropic periodic scatterers from electromagnetic near-field data at a fixed frequency. The factorization method is studied as an analytical and numerical tool for solving the inverse problem. We provide a rigorous justification of the factorization method which results in the unique determination and a fast imaging algorithm for the periodic scatterer. Numerical examples for imaging three-dimensional periodic structures are presented to examine the efficiency of the method.

In the field of cultural heritage, three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of monuments is a usual activity for many professionals. The aim in this paper focuses on the new technology educational application combining science, history, and archaeology. Being involved in almost all stages of implementation steps and assessing the level of participation, university students use tools of computer gaming platform and participate in ways of planning the virtual environment which improves their education through e-Learning. The virtual 3D environment is made with different imaging methods (helium-filled balloon, Structure for motion, 3D repository models) and a developmental plan has been designed for use in many future applications. Digital tools were used with 3D reconstructed buildings from the museum archive to Unity 3D for the design. The pilot study of Information Technology work has been employed to introduce cultural heritage and archaeology to university syllabuses. It included students with a questionnaire which has been evaluated accordingly. As a result, the university students were inspired to immerse themselves into the virtual lab, aiming to increasing the level of interaction. The results show a satisfactory learning outcome by an easy to use and real 3D environment, a step forward to fill in needs of contemporary online sustainable learning demands.

AbstractWe formulate a numerical method on the transmission and radiation theory of three-dimensional conductors starting from the Maxwell equations in the time domain. We include the delay effect in the integral equations for the scalar and vector potentials rigorously, which is vital to obtain numerically stable solutions for transmission and radiation phenomena in conductors. We provide a formalism to connect the conductors to any passive lumped-parameter circuits. We show one example of numerical calculations, demonstrating that the new formalism provides stable solutions to the transmission and radiation phenomena.

Cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) is an important drug-metabolizing enzyme that contributes to the metabolism of approximately 15% of clinically used drugs, including warfarin, which is known for its narrow therapeutic window. Interindividual differences in CYP2C9 enzymatic activity caused by CYP2C9 genetic polymorphisms lead to inconsistent treatment responses in patients. Thus, in this study, we characterized the functional differences in CYP2C9 wild-type (CYP2C9.1), CYP2C9.2, CYP2C9.3, and 12 rare novel variants identified in 4773 Japanese individuals. These CYP2C9 variants were heterologously expressed in 293FT cells, and the kinetic parameters (Km, kcat, Vmax, catalytic efficiency, and CLint) of (S)-warfarin 7-hydroxylation and tolbutamide 4-hydroxylation were estimated. From this analysis, almost all novel CYP2C9 variants showed significantly reduced or null enzymatic activity compared with that of the CYP2C9 wild-type. A strong correlation was found in catalytic efficiencies between (S)-warfarin 7-hydroxylation and tolbutamide 4-hydroxylation among all studied CYP2C9 variants. The causes of the observed perturbation in enzyme activity were evaluated by three-dimensional structural modeling. Our findings could clarify a part of discrepancies among genotype–phenotype associations based on the novel CYP2C9 rare allelic variants and could, therefore, improve personalized medicine, including the selection of the appropriate warfarin dose.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the change in the level of the wealth of the shareholders’ before the demerger and after the demerger.Design/methodology/approach – In the present study the data relating to share prices has been taken from the official website of Bombay Stock Exchange. Here the average of the six months price of the demerged company before demerger and average six months price or the average price upto 31st of July, 2007 has been collected of demerged and resultant company after demerger. Findings – It is found that after demerger there is increase in the total wealth of the shareholders in almost all the cases.Research limitations/implications – Given the nature of this study, generalizations cannot be made as the study is conducted in a bullish market. The time specific character of the subject matter is an opportunity for future longitudinal research.Practical implications – Presently de-mergers are creating enormous wealth for shareholders. It is because of the negative synergy. Due to the demerger this negative synergy is removed and the value is unlocked. However, Investors should differentiate between genuine attempts at value creation and de-mergers undertaken to create hype around the stocks. Stay away from dubious companies that want to manipulate prices.
