This chapter presents the importance of understanding how a country's competitiveness is evaluated according to international reports as well as in specific terms that assess the country logistics achieved. These results show the main variables to determine why certain levels of competitiveness are reached. On the other hand, a reflection will be presented, showing that it is necessary to include variables that must be taken into account, that promote or will be possible barriers to sustainable development, which in the long term define the sustainable development of a country. Subsequently, the structure of the supply chain management (SCM) proposed by different authors and which is required to allows to define in a company what are the elements required to be able to structure of its SCM are shown. Additionally, a relationship between the elements necessary for development of competitiveness and sustainability will be established, integrating these components with the concepts of the SCM, where the results will be environmental SCM, i.e. ESCM.

Solvers’ wide and continuous participation is imperative for the sustainable development of online crowdsourcing platforms (OCPs). Prior studies have deeply investigated what and how solvers’ motives and demographics, task attributes, requester attributes, and platform designs influence solvers’ participation. However, to our knowledge, few studies concentrated on what these OCPs do for solvers in practices that are concerned with solvers and thus influence their decision to participate. To fill this gap, this study conducted a content analysis of 25 typical OCPs focusing on problem-solving contests to identify service measures that they presented for solvers. Consequently, 14 major service measures that are related to contest management, solver management, and requester management were identified. Thereafter, we discussed the roles of these service measures in solvers’ participation. They are activating solvers to participate, providing solvers opportunities to participate, and supporting solvers to participate. Our analysis, on the one hand, presents a comprehensive list of service measures for solvers distributed on these OCPs separately and on the other hand aids the OCPs to improve their solver service and for solvers to compare and analyze their preferred OCPs as a reference.

Education system is viewed as an important constituent of sustainable development of a society. The spread of information technology reduces the need for mastering the computing apparatus of mathematics. On the other hand, firstly, the role of mathematics is not limited at least to its computing apparatus, the other components of the mathematical apparatus (for example, conceptual, methodological, etc.) and other aspects of mathematics (historical, activity, education of “intellectual honesty”, the formation of specific types of thinking, for example, geometric, ampect, linked with modelling, etc.) are also significant issues; secondly, the use of a computing apparatus is actually the final stage of other types of mathematical and “near-mathematical” activities. The article identifies three factors that ensure the relevance of mathematical education for the sustainable development: 1) the system of teaching mathematics should form the ability to use the mathematical apparatus for solving problems of business, management, engineering, social development, etc. (five components of this factor are highlighted); 2) focus on working with educational material at the level of typical strategies and methodology, not limited to typical algorithms; 3) presentation of mathematics as a multidimensional cultural phenomenon, in which scientific, technical, aesthetic, historical and economic as well as historical and social aspects are distinguished (this in many cases requires the processing of the teaching methods constituents, in particular, curricula alongside with the educational and methodological support).

Articles in this Issue celebratewomanhood, aspects that characterize it and directs our attention to gendered discourses that seek to unearth the idea that women have always fought for their rights and actively participated in various ways in the sustainable development of African societies. Articles approach the concept of ‘Womanhood’ or ‘Womanism’ in its localized and broadest sense drawing on key cultural issues on which power struggles or otherwise emanate from. They point out areas of success showing what African societies can achieve through womanhood or other cultural dynamics. As womanhood seeks to maintain an inclusive culture in African societies, some aspects of sustainable development are addressed. Drawing much from the Zimbabwean realities and the region, these articles reveal, in a subtle way, efforts by women actively participating in discourses of nationhood as well as recommending in considerable ways how on one hand women make significant contributionsin national culture; on the other hand, aspects of healing and reconciliation are also subtlety addressed. The articles augment voices on gender discourses, culture and nation building, however, in a very unique way.

There is no doubt that enterprises play an important role in the socio-economic development of every country. They create competitiveness for the economy, and directly exploit resources to serve the country's development goals. Businesses in general as well as each specific business need to overcome many great challenges in order to develop stably and sustainably. Ensuring sustainable development for themselves and contributing to the country's economic development are tasks that every business itself must perform. On the other hand, the State also needs practical and effective measures to support them to successfully implement this case.

ABSTRACT A non-steroidal oestrogen antagonist, MER-25, was administered to cycling rats for elucidating the role of oestrogen in the surge of prolactin observed on the afternoon of pro-oestrus (POe). In animals injected with 20 mg of MER-25 intramuscularly on the afternoon (16.30 h) of the first day of dioestrus (D-1), the surge of prolactin was blocked while the level of prolactin on the afternoon of POe of these animals was significantly higher than that of the corresponding controls injected with oil. Ovulation was also blocked in these animals treated with the drug on the afternoon of D-l. On the other hand, treatment on the morning (10.30 h) of the 2nd day of dioestrus failed to prevent not only the surge of prolactin but also ovulation. These observations provide strong evidence for the view that oestrogen is responsible for the surge of prolactin on the afternoon of POe, and that the surge is accompanied by that of LH.

The paper outlines major preconditions of development of energy efficiency programs and the process of their introduction from the perspective of sustainable development concept. Energy saving measures of European Union are examined, its experience and results, like green books and Thermie programs, etc are analyzed. The paper also specifies relevant activities and responsibilities undertaken by Member States by 2030 and the rates planned to be achieved. The experience of neighboring Poland in energy efficiency promotion is analyzed, as far as the country most closely resembles Ukraine by the initial rates in 1990. We calculated conditional losses of Ukraine in 2017 as the gap between the rates of energy efficiency of Ukraine and Poland (similarity of climate conditions and the state of housing funds allowed us to assume that the comparison will be the most correct regarding Ukraine). The results of calculations make us conclude that the funds are used most efficiently if the money designated, for example, for subsidizing of population are directed at strengthening of energy efficiency (at least up to the level of neighboring country). It will result in saving of about 40 billion. This is the amount defined as Ukrainian capacity in terms of improvement of energy saving and possible results of its realization. The paper determines the stage Ukraine is at in introduction of energy efficiency measures and programs: “warm loans” program; conditions regarding energy saving in Ukraine enshrined in the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement; creation of legal basis, namely the Law of Ukraine “On Energy Efficiency Fund” as of 8 June 2017. The role of newly created Energy Efficiency Fund is analyzed. Special attention is paid to the fact that energy efficient construction is one of international liabilities undertaken by Ukraine. The presence of The Active House Alliance at Ukrainian market is an important achievement in this sphere as it is the non-profit association aiming at creation of housing concept corresponding to the sustainable development principles.

Cultural heritage is an invaluable asset of any city, region, or community and is an important component in the sustainable development of societies and economies. However, the role of cultural heritage has been understudied in terms of its social embeddedness and impact on social cohesion. This has led to a demand for more insights on how cultural heritage is conserved globally and more significantly via the role of societal stakeholders. Inclusive strategies allow diverse sections of a community to engage and enrich not only the anthropological interpretations of society but also support social stability and foster positive social change. This paper exemplifies how an inclusive approach was used to engage citizen engagement for the sustainable development of the built heritage in the city of Indore in central India. Best practices are presented through secondary data through various print and online sources relevant to the context. Open coding of secondary data has helped to identify strategic approaches and relationships that emerge as crucial to citizen engagement as presented in this study. The paper discusses strategies that, based on diversity and inclusivity, contribute to the enrichment of community knowledge, increased synergistic participation, and the enhancement of the sense of collective responsibility in cultural consumption.
