The author emphasizes the importance of taking into account the specifics of the influence of social and cultural factors on the current communicative diversity of emotional expressions in English language. The peculiarities of film translation, requirements for its implementation, ensuring synchronicity are considered. The differences between the translation of a feature film and a literary text are established. The emphasis is placed on the peculiarities of the interpretation of simultaneous translation to achieve maximum compliance. Two types of creolized film text are considered. The uniqueness of the original's influence on the filmgoer is noted. The connection between the translated film text and the cultural environment in which it was performed is described. The importance of preserving the form, content, structure of the result of literary translation is emphasized. The main tasks of the translator in creating a full-fledged literary text after the translation are determined. The main translation strategies are outlined. Among them are "domestication" (domesticating approach) and "alienation" (foreignising approach) of the translation. The factors that influenced the choice of these strategies during the translation are noted. The content of translation strategies and features of the periods of their origin are indicated. The methods of implementing strategies in practice are focused on. It is noted that contextual translation with the search for a situational counterpart is actively used in the "alienation" of English-language film text. It is indicated that compression in the translation of film text is a more compact presentation of the thought in one language due to the use of semantically more capacious units of another language. It is noted that due to the fact that the text, while being translated, increases in volume, and the number of frames remains the same, translators have to use the method of compression. It is indicated what techniques can be used to reduce the duration of the phrase to avoid discrepancies between text and video. The purpose of the article is to analyze the sociolinguistic features of the linguistic personality of English monarchs in the translation aspect (based on English-language feature films). Research has been conducted on the examples of the films "The Queen", "The Royal Family: the Modern Court", "The Life of Princesses of the Modern Court".

What was the potential for the development of a Scottish film industry? Current histories largely ignore the contribution of Scotland to British film production, focusing on a few amateur attempts at narrative film-making. In this chapter, Caroline Merz offers a richer and more complex view of Scotland’s incursion into film production,. Using a case-study approach, it details a production history of Rob Roy, produced by a Scottish company, United Films, in 1911, indicating the experience on which it drew, placing it in the context of other successful British feature films such as Beerbohm’s Henry VIII, and noting both its success in Australia and New Zealand and its relative failure on the home market faced with competition from other English-language production companies.

The article focuses on the issue of semantic transformations that occur when translating the titles of feature films using partial and complete replacement strategies. The research material includes 104 film titles, 31% of the total number of English-language films released in Russia in 2018. The paper attempts to highlight the semantic center in the film titles and classify them according to the type of the center. The analysis of the semantic structure of film titles in the original and translated versions made it possible to identify six groups with the semantic center of “character (s)”, “numbers”, “objects”, “chronotope”, “storyline”, “idea”. In 39% of the names, a shift in the semantic center with partial or complete replacement is observed. The name as a verbal component of a complex unit - filmtext is involved in the formation of the first impression of a potential audience. Film titles transformations can entail a shift in the focus of the addressee and affect his perception of film text as a whole. The study reveals a general tendency of transferring from abstract to concrete and from personal to event when translating the film titles from English to Russian.

The article presents the results of analysis of the communicative intentions of the speakers realising negative assessment strategies in informal communication, modelled in the English feature film discourse. The research is done within the methodological framework of a cognitive-communicative approach to language where the communicative strategy of negative assessment is viewed as a cognitive-affective-volitional-conative mental structure of the speaker objectivised in verbal/co-verbal means of expression of negative assessment of a certain object, person, action or situation in an act of communication. Hyper-intention of negative assessment is realised through hyponymic communicative intentions of: 1) disapproval (the object is negatively assessed since it does not meet the subject’s expectations / the subject is motivated by the need to express himself/herself), 2) censure (the object-addressee is negatively assessed since it deviates from the ethic norms / the subject is motivated by the need to express the assessment before the addressee to urge him/her to reconcile with the expectations of the society), 3) criticism (the object-addressee is negatively assessed since it deviates from the utilitarian norms / the subject is motivated by the need to express the assessment before the object to urge him/her to reconcile with «the common sense»), and 4) depreciation (the object is negatively assessed since he/she does not fit the subject’s etalon/ the subject is motivated by the need to express he/she is not interested in the object). Negative assessment can be accompanied by such emotional attitudes of the subject toward the object as contempt, neglect, dissatisfaction, indignation, anger, irritation, hate, surprise, desperation, disappointment, etc. Intentions of negative assessment are distinguished from those of blame (the subject informs the addressee that the subject blames the object for taking/not taking some (un)ethical action), reproach (the subject informs the object/addressee that he/she failed the subjects’ expectations causing the subject emotional trauma) and insult (the subjects intends to hurt the object/addressee). Irony/sarcasm are addressed as implicit means of expressing negative assessment which, depending on the situation, can be realised as disapproval, censure, criticism or depreciation.

В статье рассматриваются лексико-семантические характеристики сокращений современного англоязычного газетного дискурса на материале англоязычных электронных изданий The New York Times, The Guardian, Forbes, The Independent, The Telegraph, Sunday-Times, особенности их функционирования. Газетный дискурс представлен как сфера функционирования различных сокращений, а именно контракций, усечений, блендинга, аббревиаций. Предметом выступают сокращенные лексические единицы, их функционирование в современной прессе и стратегии их передачи с английского языка на русский. Обработка фактического материала позволяет произвести количественный анализ лексики и определить наиболее характерный тип аббревиаций для текстов СМИ, определить их функции. Анализ материала позволяет фиксировать тот факт, что среди рассмотренных лексических единиц, именно аббревиатуры преобладают в современном газетном дискурсе, что подтверждает влияние событийности на изменение лексического состава языка и является мощным средством его пополнения. Функционирование образно-оценочных и культурно-маркированных сокращений в газетном дискурсе может как облегчать, так и усложнять восприятие информации. Однако сокращенные лексические единицы содержат широкий информационный потенциал, что позволяет фиксировать основное значение текста в памяти получателя и влияет на восприятие информации в нужном автору направлении. Словарь, включенный в текст, приобретает как информативное, так и эмоционально-оценочное значение. ____________________________ © Фомина С.Б., 2021 The article observes the lexical and semantic characteristics of abbreviations of the modern English-language newspaper discourse based on material of the English-language electronic publications from of The New York Times, The Guardian, Forbes, The Independent, The Telegraph, Sunday-Times, discusses the functioning of abbreviations. Newspaper discourse is presented as the sphere of functioning of various abbreviations, such as contractions, clipping, blending, abbreviations. The subject is abbreviated lexical units, their functioning in the modern press and strategies for their transfer from English into Russian. Factual material analysis allows carrying out a quantitative analysis of the vocabulary and determine the most typical type of abbreviations for media texts, their functions. The analysis of the material proves quantitative superiority of abbreviations that prevail in modern newspaper discourse that confirms the influence of eventfulness on the change in the lexical composition of the language and is a powerful means of replenishing it. The functioning of figurative and evaluative and culturally-marked abbreviations in newspaper discourse facilitates and complicates the perception of information at the same time. However, abbreviated lexical units contain a wide information potential, which allows fixing the main meaning of the text in the receiver's memory and affects the perception of information in the direction the author needs. The vocabulary included in the text acquires informative and emotionally evaluative value as well.

The question of image in literary studies and in recent years in Translation Studies is one of the most problematic innature. In the present study an attempt was made to define the nature of translating linguistic constructions – evokingimages in the mind of reader – in English novels and their rendered versions in Persian translations. In this studyseven types of images (visual, auditory, olfactory, gustatory, tactile, kinesthetic and organic) in two English novelsand their rendered versions in Persian were analyzed based on two theoretical frameworks, the first one is Jiang’sImage-Based Model to Literary Translation (2008) by which the nature of translation of images were examined andthe other is Chesterman’s translation strategies (1997) which help to systematize translation strategies adopted bytranslators in rewriting the images in English novels. The results have shown that in most of the cases the images thatare intended by original author have been changed in the translations, and the aesthetic experience of the ST reader isdifferent from that of the TT reader.

The study analyzes lexemes and word combinations of colloquial style, slang and low colloquial language, performs their comparative analysis at word level, looks into the transformational patterns that the structures undergo during literary translation into English and Russian, and discusses the advantages and flaws of the applied translation strategies through suggesting adequate translation solutions. In the article, the argument is made that the translation strategies of substandard lexis reflect the interdisciplinary nature of expressive meaning and connotation which can be conveyed differently through various language levels during literary translation.

This paper is an attempt to explore how the powerful gaze of the panoptical power relation through the  technological aids of this neocolonial era which forms the ‘Self,’ distorts the identity, privacy and liberty of the  lives under this surveillance who becomes the ‘other’. The study is based on the reading of Rituparno Ghosh’s 2007 English–language film The Last Lear. The  film which won the National Award of India for the best feature film in English in 2007  is based on a 1985 Bengali play, Ajker Shajahan ( Today’s Shakespeare) written by Utpala  Dutt. The film unfolds the story of an aging Shakespearean actor persuaded by a young ambitious director to take up acting again. But the retired actor is unwilling to adjust the new world of cinema and its complex technical tricks. The film also expose how the powerful camera gaze and mobile phones turn as the new colonizer who distorts truth and induce fears in the minds of the people under surveillance. This study is carried out based on the Post-Panoptical theories of Surveillance.

This essay discusses problems pertaining to the disappearance of the language of the original text in the case of literary translation. After a reminder of recent criticism directed against ethnocentric translation strategies, the question is raised of the theoretical promises of alternative strategies. The text examines the different ways in which the relations between language and culture are theorized, taking two lines of inquiry that have strongly infl uenced contemporary translation theory: that of German Romanticism and that of Walter Benjamin.

The relevance of the monograph is determined, first of all, by the fact that contemporary national literatures are increasingly interacting with each other through translation, and thus the need to consider translated works in comparison with the originals is increasing. Studying the features and patterns of the literary translation is an important area of modern comparative studies. The work focuses on ways of preserving the national and cultural component of the translated text. The works of M. Gogol, Lesia Ukrainka, I. Franko, F. Dostoievskyi, R. Kipling, and J. Conrad were analyzed according to this aspect. A comparative idea of a dialogue is proposed. It is noted that translation is a broad dialogic process between the author and the reader through the interpreter, which includes reception and interpretation. Literary translation is interpreted as the basis for establishing a dialogue between the text and the interpreter, as an expression of the meaning that flows through the prism of the translating consciousness and enriches it, as a co-creation of the writer and interpreter, the purpose of which is mutual understanding, and the result of this understanding is the text-translation. Attention is paid to the issue of intertextuality as a translation problem. Despite the understanding of intertextuality as the interaction between the texts by different authors (text in text) and the interrelation between different works of one author, the thesis proposes to expand the scope of interpretation of this term, adding to it also different interpretations of one work in the same language. In the monograph the problem of reception and interpretation of literary text is considered in the imagological aspect. In particular, the study of reception and interpretation of other national character in a foreign language discourse plays an important role. Foreign language reception and interpretation of laughter culture in general and «Gogol laughter» in particular are thoroughly investigated. A deep analysis of the works of M. Gogol and F. Dostoevsky made it possible to conclude that the carnival colour of Gogol's «pure, folk-festive» laughter and the parody and comic intonation of F. Dostoevsky during translation give rise to certain problems of preserving their identity. It is noted that the perception of colour in a literary work is a peculiar way of interpreting it, and the semantic nuances of colour markings in one language or another require the problem of the reception adequacy and the interpretation of colour when translating from language to language. The practical importance of the monograph is determined by the possibility of using its basic provisions and results as an additional source of information for further comprehension of the translational paradigm in the comparative dimension.
