It is proposed to consider foreign scientific discourse in two historical periods - from the 1890s to the 90s of the last century and from the 1990s to the present. Important features of each of the periods of the discourse are distinguished: the beginning of the discourse was laid by the works of French scientists Émile Durkheim and Gustave Le Bon; philosophers, social psychologists, sociologists from the USA and European countries became active researchers of the problem; the attention of researchers is focused primarily on the social essence of social and public relations between members of small groups, which, in the end, formed a significant part of the research field; the analyzed researches laid the basis for determining the content of both the phenomenon itself and the term by which it is defined; in the course of the discourse the criteria of influence on the dynamics of the content of social cohesion and on the role of this phenomenon in the conflict-free social development were determined.

In “Integrating Social and Economic Development: Rationale, Models, and Limitations,” multiple levels of social and economic development are examined. In most nations, economic development is not well connected to social development, especially social welfare and social protections. This chapter explores more progressive development that offsets distorted development and its harms. Special attention is devoted to the well-being of the social entrepreneur and ecosystems of support. Integrative approaches are addressed, including conceptual frames, the leadership of the United Nations and its Sustainable Development Goals, and some of the academic disciplines that can contribute to more integrative thinking, approaches, policies, and research. Mechanisms for integration are discussed, along with attention to growth that promotes more inclusive economies.

Abstract The question is how the global and local economic actors’ innovation-based local social and environmental objectives and results can modify the social cohesion strategies, how the disparities in economic and social development can be measured and evaluated at regional level in addition to a comparison across countries. We have seen that any one indicator in itself is not enough since it does not provide sufficient explanation for either the development disparities or their reasons. Anyway, in addition to GDP per capita, it is worth applying - and it is important to apply - such indicators as SPI and Well-Being, and various indices of social progress.

Supervision practice in social work is understood as the mainstay of the profession. However, various studies have pointed to the inadequacies of supervision to facilitate quality service provision. Previous studies have reflected a general misalignment between the approach to supervision practice and the approach to social work practice as one inadequacy leading to the failure of supervision practice. Although there are numerous supervision models in the profession, some of which are aligned with certain practice approaches, none is directly identifiable with the social development approach, which should be at the core of social work orientation in South Africa. Thus, this article provides a process model of supervision in social work that aims to establish a dialectical relationship between supervision and the social development practice approach. The study was underpinned by Thomas’ research and design process, which was used to design and develop a social work supervision model mirroring a social development approach. The paper concludes with recommendations related to the use of the developed model.
