The objective of this study is to implement accent reduction software in English pronunciation teaching. This study employed an experimental approach. There were forty students recruited from the English and Arabic departments. The students were split into two classes, with one class being treated as an experimental class and another class as a controlled class. Each class consisted of twenty students, ten English department students, and the other ten Arabic department students. We administered an experimental class with twelve meeting treatments using the Elsa accent reduction software to teach English pronunciation. Meanwhile, the controlled class was not given any treatments.  The results show that there was a significant difference between the result of the pre-test and post-test of the students' pronunciations that were taught with the accent reduction software. It was found that the mean score of the experimental class was significantly improved from 53.12 to 85.44 after they were given the treatment. Meanwhile, the control group's mean score was also improved, but it was not significant from 49.33 to 59.11. Our study highlighted that the use of accent reduction software in teaching English pronunciations could help students to improve their English pronunciations. The students were able to imitate an English sound from the software. The limitation of this study is that we did not compare the results of English and Arabic students’ ability in pronunciations after the use of the software. Future studies are recommended to compare pronunciations between English and Arabic students through the use of the software to understand language background might affect the treatment.

This research aimed to describe the result of the non-English department students’ reading comprehension tested by using cloze test and the effect of using cloze test on non-English department students’ achievement on reading comprehension. This research is classified into pre-experimental research that used one group pre-test and post-test design.  The population of this research is the non-English department students in the academic Year 2020/2021 with a total number of 107 students. The researcher used non-probability sampling type purposive sampling technique and there were 44 students taken as samples. The test is the instrument in this research. Data are taken from the result of pre-test and post-test then analyzed by using statistical technique. The analysis is used to find the significant difference in the students’ reading comprehension ability before and after the use of cloze test. In this research, the researcher used paired sample t-test through SPSS 17.0 to analyze the data. Based on data analysis, the mean score of the pre-test was 46.86 categorized as poor whereas the mean score of the post-test was 65.61 categorized as average to good. The mean score of the pre-test 46.86 smaller than 65.61 mean scores of the post-test. It meant that there was a difference mean score of students’ reading comprehension between the pre-test and post-test. This finding showed there was a different score before and after giving treatment. The result of paired samples t-test analysis showed the significance value Sig. (2-tailed) < alpha (0.000 < 0.05). Therefore, the alternative hypotheses which stated that there is an effect of using cloze test on improving non-English department students’ reading comprehension is accepted. It is concluded that there was an effect of cloze test on improving non-English department students’ reading comprehension.

This study aims to investigate whether the use of six selected short stories throughout the duration of a 14-week course could enhance students’ reading comprehension achievement at the end of the semester. Out of the six short stories read, three were chosen as in-class assignments known as ‘Personal Reading Logs’ (hereafter, PRLs). One group of semester two Diploma students taking a reading skills course was selected through a convenience sampling method. A pre-test was conducted by having the students answer a past semester reading quiz of which the results would then be compared to their post-test (final reading exam) results. A paired samples t-test revealed no significant difference in the reading scores of the pre-test and the post-test, t (17) = -.265, p > .05. Since the p-value was bigger than 0.05, this indicated that the mean reading score of the post-test (M = 50.556) was not significantly higher than the mean reading score of the pre-test (M = 49.722). Therefore, the null hypothesis which stated that there was no difference in the mean score of the pre-test and post-test was retained. Overall, the result refuted the findings of other studies promoting the effectiveness of using short stories to enhance L2 reading comprehension achievement.

Making connections between the representations of trigonometric functions and an interpretation of graphs of the functions are major challenges to many students. This study explores the effectiveness of the GeoGebra on grade 12 students’ success in making connections between the representations of trigonometric functions and the interpretation of graphs. A non-equivalent control-group pre-test post-test quasi-experimental design was used. The sample of the study consisted of sixty-one grade 12 students from two schools. The results showed that there was a statistically significant difference between the mean achievements of the experimental group and the control group on making connections between representations of trigonometric functions, and on analyses and interpretations of representations of trigonometric functions, in favour of the experimental group. This study extends the findings of previous studies on the effectiveness of dynamic mathematics software on students’ learning of representations and interpretation of graphs of trigonometric functions.            Keywords: GeoGebra, functions graphs, Trigonometric functions

Abstract Background: Following the outbreak of coronavirus and its impact on the educational process of medical students, attention was paid to e-learning due to importance of education and research. The aim of present study is to evaluation of virtual and actual education models on the learning of internal interns during the pandemic of COVID-19. Results: The mean±SD age of the participants was 24.9±2.3 years, 46% of participants were men and 54% of them live in dormitory. Results of study shows that difference of pre-test and post-test score with actual and virtual education models in the male and female is significantly different (P value=0.020). Virtual education for men and actual education for women have resulted in higher difference scores in pre-test and post-test. Actual and virtual education models were no different in academic achievements of participants. Thus, the scores obtained in 9 areas did not make a significant difference between the two types of educational models.Discussion: Virtual and actual education methods for internal interns were examined and the results showed that there is no significant difference between these two methods in student output. Given the conditions that have created by COVID-19 disease in the world, it seems that the use of virtual education can be a good alternative to educating medical students so that education does not stop.

This quasi-experimental study involves the experimental and control group which consist of 60 students in first year of SMA Muhammadiyah Sidenreng Rappang   2019/2020 academic year.  The reading test is used to collect data to find out do the students can achieve significant result in reading test using Text-based Character. Based on the result the mean score of the experimental group pre-test was 72.67 and classified into good classification, while the control group was 69.63 classified into good. The mean score of the post-test after treatment for the experimental group was 82.43 (very good) while the control group was 76.53, (good) classification still.  The researcher found that the T-table is higher than the t-test (α) (1.659<2.021). It means that there is a significant difference in the pre-test of the control and experimental group, while in post-test of an experimental and control group, the researcher finds that the T-test is higher than the alpha and previous score in the the pre-test (α) (3.089>2.021). The degree of freedom is 58. This study reveals that the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted, and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. This is means that the use of Text-based Characters can improves students' reading skills in significant way.

This study aims to enhance students’ writing skills through Daily Journal writing. This research was divided into three steps: giving pre-test, giving treatment (writing daily journal), and giving posttest. The result showed significant difference between control and experimental group. Experimental participants was improved through the writing of daily journal, and the score gained by participants showed that there was a significant effect on students’ writing skills. The achievements showed that the mean difference of post-test scores between the two groups was -.45433 and for the standard error mean was .03840 with pValue .050 (see Table 3), means that Ha is accepted and Ho is not accepted. ABSTRACTBackground: Erythrocytes Sedimentation Rate (ESR) is a test to determine the rate of erythrocytes settling blood containing anticoagulants in a vertical tube within a certain time. ESR is generally used to check and monitor for tissue damage, inflammation and indicate disease. ESR examination can be done by manual and automatic methods. LED levels in pulmonary TB patients generally have increased.Objectives: Knowing the difference in the measurement results of the erythrocytes sedimentation rate (ESR) between the Westergen manual and automatic methods in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.Methods: Laboratory experiments with a post-test-only approach. The number of samples was 30 people and was taken by purposive sampling. The research data were obtained from the results of the ESR examination using the Westergren manual and automatic methods. Results: Examination of the sedimentation rate of healthy respondents used the Westergren method had an average of 9,40 mm/hour while in the automatic method 10,15 mm/hour. The examination of sedimentation rate of pulmonary tuberculosis respondents with the Westergren method had an average of 66,13mm/hour, while the Automatic method was 67,80 mm/hour. There was no significant difference in the mean value of ESR between the measurement method used manual Westergren and Automatic methods in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis ( p = 0,878).   Conclusion: There is no significant difference in the mean value of ESR between measurements using the manual Westergren method and automatic in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Keywords: Erythrocytes Sedimentation Rate, Method, Westergren, Automatic  PERBANDINGAN NILAI LAJU ENDAP DARAH ANTARA PENGUKURAN METODE MANUAL WESTERGREN DAN ALAT AUTOMATIK PADA SAMPEL DARAH SITRAT PENDERITA TB PARU DI RSUD. Kadar LED pada penderita TB Paru umumnya mengalami peningkatan.Tujuan: Mengetahui perbedaan hasil pengukuran Laju Endap Darah (LED) antara metode manual Westergen dan Automatik pada Penderita TB Paru. Metodologi: Eksperimen laboratorik dengan pendekatan post test only. Jumlah sampel 30 orang dan diambil dengan purposive sampling. Data penelitian diperoleh dari hasil pemeriksaan LED menggunakan metode manual Westergren dan Automatik.  Hasil: Pemeriksaan Laju Endap Darah pada responden sehat metode Westergren memiliki rata-rata 9,40 mm/jam sedangkan pada metode Automatik 10,15 mm/jam. Pemeriksaan Laju Endap Darah pada responden TB Paru metode Westergren memiliki rata-rata 66,13 mm/jam sedangkan pada metode Automatik 67,80 mm/jam. Pictures use in an educational setting fits the idiom: old but gold. There have been plenty of studies revealing how good the use of pictures in the classrooms is. Pictures have been long known to have the ability to help motivate, demonstrate, and instruct the students during a learning process. This study is a sort of complement to the phenomenon as it focuses on researching the use of pictures in a classroom. Specifically, it aims at finding out the effectiveness of the use of picture cues in teaching writing.The study belongs to experimental research involving two groups of experiment and control. The eighth-grade students of a private junior high school in Central Java Indonesia are chosen as the subject of the research during 2017/2018 academic year. Employing a sample population technique, the study involves a total number of 56 students who are equally divided into 28 students as the experimental group and 28 students as the control group. The experimental group is taught using picture cues while the control group is taught without picture cues. Pre-test and post-test are used as techniques to collect the data. As for the data analysis technique, it’s done quantitatively applying both descriptive and inferential statistics.The result of the research shows that there is a significant difference in the students’ writing ability between those taught using picture cues and those who are not. This can be seen from the difference in the mean score between them. The result of the pre-test shows that at the beginning, both experimental and control groups have slightly different ability in writing with the mean scores 51.32 and 47.86 respectively. Meanwhile, the result of the post-test indicates an obvious difference between them in which the experimental group gains 65.75 as its mean score and the control group gets 59.14. Furthermore, the application of Independent t-test calculation results in a score of 0.000, which is lower than 0.05. This means that the use of picture cues is effective. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the use of picture cues is effective to teach writing to students.

Abstract BACKGROUND The current Pediatric Advanced Life Support guidelines recommends that newborns who require cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in settings (e.g., prehospital, Emergency department, or paediatric intensive care unit, etc.) should receive continuous chest compressions with asynchronous ventilations (CCaV) if an advanced airway is in place. However, this has never been examined in a newborn model of neonatal asphyxia. OBJECTIVES To determine if CCaV at rates of 90/min or 120/min compared to current standard of 100/min will reduce the time to return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) in a porcine model of neonatal resuscitation. DESIGN/METHODS Term newborn piglets were anesthetized, intubated, instrumented, and exposed to 40-min normocapnic hypoxia followed by asphyxia, which was achieved by clamping the endotracheal tube until asystole. Piglets were randomized into 3 CCaV groups: chest compression (CC) at a rate of 90/min (CCaV 90,n=7), of 100/min (CCaV 100,n=7), of 120/min (CCaV 120,n=7), or sham-operated group. A two-step randomization process with sequentially numbered, sealed brown envelope was used to reduce selection bias. After surgical instrumentation and stabilization an envelope containing the allocation “sham” or “intervention” was opened (step one). The sham-operated group had the same surgical protocol, stabilization, and equivalent experimental periods without hypoxia and asphyxia. Only piglets randomized to “intervention” underwent hypoxia and asphyxia. Once the criteria for CPR were met, a second envelope containing the group allocations was opened (step two). Cardiac function, carotid blood flow, cerebral oxygenation, and respiratory parameters were continuously recorded throughout the experiment. RESULTS The mean (±SD) duration of asphyxia was similar between the groups with 260 (±133)sec, 336 (±217)sec, and 231 (±174)sec for CCav 90, CCaV 100, and CCaV 120, respectively (p=1.000; oneway ANOVA with Bonferroni post-test). The mean (SD) time to ROSC was also similar between groups 342 (±345)sec, 312 (±316)sec, and 309 (±287)sec for CCav 90, CCaV 100, and CCaV 120, respectively (p=1.000; oneway ANOVA with Bonferroni post-test). Overall, 5/7 in the CCaV 90, 5/7 in CCaV 100, and 5/7 in the CCaV 120 survived. CONCLUSION There was no significant difference in time to ROSC for either chest compression technique during cardiopulmonary resuscitation in a porcine model of neonatal asphyxia.

Objective The present study was conducted with the objective of investigating the effectiveness of solution-focused group counseling (SFGC) on promoting the mental health of midwifery students. Methods The present study is an intervention-based study with a pretest, a post-test, and a control group. The statistical population included all of the midwifery students studying in the midwifery department of the Bam University of Medical Sciences, Kerman, Iran, who filled out the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) in the screening phase. In the second phase, 40 individuals, having a low level of mental health based on the cutoff score of 23, were selected and randomly divided into 2 groups (intervention and control), each group with 20 participants. The intervention group participated in 5 sessions of 75 minutes for SFGC. Then, the post-test was held in both groups and the data analysis was conducted using the Mann-Whitney and the Kruskal-Wallis test with IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 21.0 (IBM Corp, Armonk, NY, USA). The significance level was considered as p < 0.05. Results The findings showed that the mean of the post-test mental health scores of the intervention group (14.5 ± 50.35) and of the control group (23.6 ± 35.83) showed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.0001). Moreover, the comparison between the mean scores of the mental health subscales (physical symptoms, stress, social performance, and depression) showed a statistically significant difference in these groups, and SFGC improved physical symptoms, stress, social performance, and depression in the members of the intervention group. Conclusion Solution-focused group counseling may improve all levels of mental health. This type of counseling is recommended to be used to solve the psychological problems and to improve the mental health of students, as well as of the staff of the health system.
