The Siberian Federal University Scientific Library is characterized as one of the key players in the university’s education and research support. Approaches toward IRBIS-based design of statistical forms are examined. The method enables to take due account of remote users data and the features of the Siberian Federal University Scientific Library’s hybrid collection. Several key statistical indicators to characterize Library’s performance within the user services cycle are discussed. The set of statistical factors used by the University administration and librarians to analyze the Library’s performance are revealed. The authors conclude that the statistical indicators have to be improved to reflect changes in the collection structure, new promising sources and new user needs and demands which will also contribute to developing new approaches in library and information services. They emphasize that the library statistical data are of valuable source for the sphere of culture as a whole, as it enables to compare organizations’ performance, to reveal newest trends, and to measure their potentiality.

One of Agder University Librarys goals is to support teaching and research at the University of Agder (UoA). To do so, the library should be involved in research projects and offer the right products at the right time. The spring of 2012 a survey was conducted among researchers (academic staff and Ph.D.-students) at the faculty of humanities and education at UoA as well as the library staff. Aditional interviews was made with the library´s research librarians and two of the Ph.D.-students. The surveys and interviews made it clear that researchers and librarians have a different conception on what research support is and should be. While librarians focus mostly on library resources, the researchers focus more generally on practical, economical and administrative help to make research possible. However, the majority answered yes to the question on the library being an important part of research support.Working closely with the researchers can help to offer the right library resources at the right time. Ph.D.-students are less likely to be set in their ways in regards to information behaviour and will often be positive to try new approaches. Also, the Ph.D.-students can be used as a reference group for developing library resources for researchers, for example subject guides. The outside perspective on the library can help to find new ways of approaching research support to make it more useful to researchers.

UNNDERPIN (University of Northumbria at Newcastle DEvelopment of and Research into the Provision of lnformation to Nurses, and nurse educators) has been an 8 month study jointly funded and undertaken by the Information Services Department and Department of Information and Library Management from the University of Northumbria, and the Bede, Newcastle and Northurnbria College of Health Studies, which is also now part of the University of Northumbria. The general aim of UNNDERPIN has been to undertake an examination of library and information services in a climate of change where user information needs are changing and demanding changed services to meet those needs, in order to support patient care and clinical developments. A picture has been built up of individual users' information use, needs, problem areas and possible solutions.

The University of Iowa Central Electron Microscopy Research Facility(CEMRF) was established in 1981 to support all faculty, staff and students needing this technology. Initially the CEMRF was operated with one TEM, one SEM, three staff members and supported about 30 projects a year. During the past twelve years, the facility has replaced all instrumentation pre-dating 1981, and now includes 2 TEM's, 2 SEM's, 2 EDS systems, cryo-transfer specimen holders for both TEM and SEM, 2 parafin microtomes, 4 ultamicrotomes including cryoultramicrotomy, a Laser Scanning Confocal microscope, a research grade light microscope, an Ion Mill, film and print processing equipment, a rapid cryo-freezer, freeze substitution apparatus, a freeze-fracture/etching system, vacuum evaporators, sputter coaters, a plasma asher, and is currently evaluating scanning probe microscopes for acquisition. The facility presently consists of 10 staff members and supports over 150 projects annually from 44 departments in 5 Colleges and 10 industrial laboratories. One of the unique strengths of the CEMRF is that both Biomedical and Physical scientists use the facility.

Background:One of the hurdles in osteoarthritis (OA) drug discovery and the improvement of therapeutic approaches is the early identification of patients who will progress. It is therefore crucial to find efficient and reliable means of screening OA progressors. Although the main risk factors, age, gender and body mass index (BMI), are important, they alone are poor predictors. However, serum factors could be potential biomarkers for early prediction of knee OA progression.Objectives:In a first step toward finding early reliable predictors of OA progressors, this study aimed to determine, in OA individuals, the optimum combination of serum levels of adipokines/related inflammatory factors, their ratios, and the three main OA risk factors for predicting knee OA infrapatellar fat pad (IPFP) volume, as this tissue has been associated with knee OA onset and progression.Methods:Serum and magnetic resonance images (MRI) were from the Osteoarthritis Initiative at baseline. Variables (48) comprised the 3 main OA risk factors (age, gender, BMI), 6 adipokines, 3 inflammatory factors, and their 36 ratios. IPFP volume was assessed on MRI with a neural network methodology. The best variables and models were identified in Total cohort (n=678), High-BMI (n=341) and Low-BMI (n=337), using an artificial intelligence selection approach: the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system embedded with fuzzy c-means clustering (ANFIS-FCM). Performance was validated using uncertainty analyses and statistical indices. Reproducibility was done using 80 OA patients from a clinical trial (female, n=57; male, n=23).Results:For the three groups, 8.44E+14 sub-variables were investigated and 48 models were selected. The best model for each group included five variables: the three risk factors and adipsin/C-reactive protein combined for Total cohort, adipsin/chemerin; High-BMI, chemerin/adiponectin high molecular weight; and Low-BMI, interleukin-8. Data also revealed that the main form of the ratio used for the model was justified, as the use of the inverse form slightly decreased the performance of the model in both training and testing stages. Further investigation indicated that gender improved (13-16%) the prediction results compared to the BMI-based models. For each gender, we then generated a pseudocode (an evolutionary computation equation) with the 5 variables for predicting IPFP volume. Reproducibility experiments were excellent (correlation coefficient: female 0.83, male 0.95).Conclusion:This study demonstrates, for the first time, that the combination of the serum levels of adipokines/inflammatory factors and the three main risk factors of OA could predict IPFP volume with high reproducibility, and superior performance with gender separation. Purpose This paper aims to investigate the service demand of existing users and potential users for mobile information services provided by university libraries in China. The primary objective is to explore the impact of user experience on user needs, which is conducted by a comparison between two user groups over their needs from three aspects – service function, service mode and information content. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from 353 library users from ten Chinese universities via questionnaires. Based on the user needs model, three dimensions of user needs were established for mobile information services and 26 measurement items were generated through a review of the literature. Furthermore, based on frequency analysis, independent samples t-test and the calculation of need rate, the demand differences in mobile information services between existing and potential users were explored. Findings Significant differences existed in the needs for service functions and service modes of mobile information services between existing users and potential users. Existing users cared more about such characteristics as intelligence, personalization and the variety of mobile services. Potential users, in contrast, concerned themselves more with the usability of mobile services and similarity to traditional information services. These two user groups showed little difference in the needs for information content, as they both have strict requirements for specialty, richness in and quality of information resources in mobile network environments. Originality/value Previous research on user needs for mobile libraries services has been primarily conducted from the perspectives of existing users. This study, however, compared the needs of existing and potential users based on their previous experiences, which can help libraries to know better what their users need and improve the quality of mobile information services to meet those needs. This can also make existing users more willing to use the services and cultivate the usage habits of potential users at the same time.

How do academic libraries within a university setting effectively address the evolving service and resource needs of a diverse patron community? One method that has received increasing attention is the development and implementation of internal instruments specifically designed to assess user satisfaction with services and resources. This study assesses undergraduate resource and service needs, identifies librarywide unmet needs, and gives both library user and librarian an opportunity to engage in proactive dialogue.

The article discusses some aspects of the organization of the information system of the Archive of the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov. The problem of digitalization of archival activities is quite relevant for Uzbekistan due to the fact that traditional approaches to the construction of information retrieval mechanisms and the organization of information services in archiving today often do not correspond to the required level of efficiency and user needs. As part of the work carried out, the specific task was to organize a software environment for the formation of an electronic catalog of archived descriptions, filling databases of digitized copies of archival materials, as well as flexible multidimensional search and presentation of information. The way to solve this problem is to use the archival information system «AtoM». As a result, a database of digitized archival materials was created, reflecting the life and work of the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, equipped with a developed search and reference apparatus.

Abstract: Interior design is currently growing. This can be seen from the various designs in each building. Each design has different characteristics and shapes. The problem that is often experienced by users is the lack of user knowledge in the field of interior design so that after the design is finished, the user is not satisfied with the results of the interior design. The main objective of this research is a decision making system in selecting interior designs according to user needs by paying attention to criteria such as design form, design size, material and quality. The method of selecting interior design using the Mamdani method. The mamdani method is very suitable in calculating the output value of each criterion value and the end result becomes the reference value in making a decision. The resulting system is in the form of design selection criteria according to user needs. Thus the results of this study get an Output value of 427,368 which is in the range with the value considered. Keywords: fuzzy inference system; interior design;  mamdani method;  software matlab.  Abstrak:  Desain Interior  saat ini semakin berkembang, Hal ini bisa dilihat dari berbagai  desain pada setiap  bangunan. Setiap desain  memiliki karakteristik dan bentuk yang berbeda beda. Permasalahan yang sering dialami pengguna yaitu kurangnya pengetahuan pengguna dibidang desain interior sehingga setelah desain selesai dikerjakan pengguna tidak Puas dengan hasil desain interior. Tujuan utama penelitian ini berupa Sistem pengambilan keputusan dalam pemilihan desain interior sesuai dengan kebutuhan pengguna dengan memperhatikan kriteria seperti Bentuk Desain, ukuran desain, bahan dan Kualitas. Metode  pemilihan Desain interior  menggunakan metode Mamdani. Metode mamdani sangat cocok dalam menghitung nilai output dari masing masing nilai kriteria dan hasil akhirnya menjadi nilai acuan dalam pengambilan sebuah Keputusan. Sistem yang dihasilkan berupa kriteria pemilihan desain sesuai kebutuhan pengguna. Dengan demikian Hasil penelitian ini mendapatkan nilai Output sebesar 427.368 yang berada pada range dengan nilai dipertimbangkan.  Kata kunci: desain interior; fuzzy inference system; metode mamdani; software matlab.
