The revelation of misconceptions contributes to better education, especially when that information is described in a specific field of science. Additionally, genetics is one of very problematic topics, and misconceptions appear there frequently as there are difficult interconnections among them. The main aim of the study was to explore high school students´ misconceptions about basic genetics concepts. Moreover the influence of gender was also examined. Respondents were 102 Czech high school students of two high schools. Research tool was test containing 15 two tier questions concerning about basic genetics concepts like chromosome, DNA, allele and gene. Reliability was determined with the use of Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. The result of Kolmogor-Smirnov test allowed to use parametric statistical methods. The data were analysed by the using of descriptive statistical methods (mean score) and inferential statistical methods (ANOVA). Concept ‘DNA’ was determined as the most problematic one for students, contrarily concept ‘allele’ was the simplest one. It was found that high school students do not understand selected basic genetic concepts. In addition, students do not interconnect genetic concepts within one complex system of knowledge, they also do not realise structure and hierarchy of these concepts. Key words: basic genetics concepts, misconceptions, genetics learning, high school students.

Reliability test result by using Alpha coefficient of internal consistency obtained for 0.899. The construct validity of non-verbal test shows that there are six factors and verbal test shows that there are four factors. The validation process of exploratory factor analysis showed loading factor ranges between 0.566-0.996. The norms of social intelligence tests classify into six levels.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat penerapan strategi-stategi membaca berdasarkan Genre Based Approach guna menigkatkan pencapaian nilai membaca siswa. penulis melaksanakan penelitian tindakan kelas dengan menerapkan strategi membaca berdasarkan konsep Genre Based Approach yang terdiri dari empat langkah yaitu building context of the text, modeling the text, joint construct of the text, dan independent construction of the text. Strategi-strategi membaca berdasarkan genre based approach diterapkan melalui tiga fase membaca yaitu, pre-reading phase, whilst reading phase, dan post reading phase.

ABSTRACT

THE PRACTICE OF TRADITIONAL COMMUNAL MEALS «QUQAWI» AND IDENTITY OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AT AIMARA HIGH SCHOOL OF ACORA - PUNO, PERU

The present study was undertaken because students expressed shame to eat traditional Andean food in school, so the importance of the research lies in strengthening the identity through practicing «quqawi». The practice was organized once a week, between students and teachers, allowing them to reassess their ancestral identity, and achieve resocialization. According to Llanque (1990), respect is recognized as separate from ones socio/economic position, traditionally the elders and elderly are very respected because they are repositories of communal knowledge. The aim of the study was to determine if the practice of «quqawi» strengthens identity of fourth year Aimara high school students in the city of Acora. Using observation techniques, an observation questionnaire form and the Likert scale. We also used photographs from May to November as auxiliary instruments. The research is mixed corresponding to a population of 115 students with applied stratified sampling. The following results were reached: 63% of the students share «quqawi» as a natural practice in different spaces; while 23% are indifferent, 9% would not participate and 6% do not consume Andean food. This means that the practice of «quqawi» strengthens identity of students as a normal and common experience, however there are still forms of resistance to this.

KEY WORDS: * cultural * Andean * identity * aimara * tradition * values

This is a qualitative study of questions and instructions found in reading sections used in Interlanguage: English For Senior High School Students XI textbook. The writer observed the types of cognitive domains of questions and instructions and the key words found in the reading sections of the textbook. The data, consisting of questions and instructions, were collected from the reading sections of the first seven chapters of the textbook, as the source of data was from the textbook downloaded from the internet. In order to answer the research questions, she used the theory of Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy as proposed by Anderson and Krathwohl (2001). The findings revealed the six types of cognitive domains of questions and instructions found in the reading sections of the textbook: remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating and also revealing the key words of each cognitive domain of questions and instructions. Hopefully, this study can be of some help for other researchers who want to do the similar research on questions and instructions found in another textbook. Keywords: Questions, Instructions, Cognitive Domains, Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy
