The present study was conducted to evaluate the antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and membrane stabilizing, antioxidant, thrombolytic, anti-diarrheal activities of Scindapsu shederaceus belonging to the Araceae family. In antipyretic test, temperature reduced from 101.53°F to 99.86°F (p<0.05), 99.20°F (p<0.05) and 99.06°F (p<0.05) in 1st, 2nd and 3rd hour, respectively and caused maximum reduction of temperature in 1st hour. In the hot plate method, the extract increased the reaction time of heat sensation significantly to 14.32 seconds. In in vitro anti-inflammatory test, the extract significantly inhibited protein denaturation by 85.17% at 500 ?g/ml, 71.72% at 250 ?g/ml and by 66.55% at 125 ?g/ml. It also inhibited the hypotonic solution-induced haemolysis by 73.19%, 49.69% and 29.15% at same concentration in membrane stabilizing assay. In DPPH inhibition assay the extract showed maximum % inhibition of 65.5% at 100 ?g/ml. In the assay of thrombolytic activity, the extract showed thrombolytic activity of 14.39%. Amylase inhibitory activity was found to be 22.38% at a concentration 100 ?g/ml. In case of antidiarrheal investigation, the extract reveled total inhibition of defection by 35.30%.Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Journal 20(1): 85-89, 2017

To study the anti-inflammatory effect of Punica granatum extract against the oral microbes. Oral diseases continue to be a major health problem worldwide. Dental caries and periodontal diseases are among the most important global oral health problems, although conditions such as oral and pharyngeal cancers and oral tissue lesions are also significant health concerns. Pomegranate extracts have been used for centuries in traditional medicine to confer health benefits in a number of inflammatory diseases, microbial infections and cancer. The anti-inflammatory activity of pomegranate extract was evaluated by protein denaturation assay, and the results were read spectrophotometrically. Denaturation of proteins is a great‐ documented cause of inflammation. As a part of the investigation on the mechanism of the anti-inflammatory activity, the ability to extract to inhibit protein denaturation was studied. It was effective in inhibiting heat induced albumin denaturation at different concentrations as shown in Table 1. Maximum inhibition, 70.12±1.12% was observed at500µg/ml. IC50 value was found to be 105.35±1.99µg/ml. Aspirin, a standard anti-inflammatory drug showed the maximum inhibition, 77.12±1.42% at the concentration of 200µg/ml. Hence it can be concluded that pomegranate extract has anti-inflammatory property and also can be used in products such as toothpaste and mouth wash etc.

AbstractBasil plant (Ocimum americanum) is efficacious as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity. According to research by Sarma and Babu, 2011, Verma and Kothiyal, 2012 showed basil activity as an antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-diabetic, anthelmintic, antifungal, insecticide, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and lowering total cholesterol and LDL-C levels. The purpose of this study was to determine the stabilization activity of red blood cell membranes on methanol partitioning, n-hexane partitioning and ethanol extract of basil leaves in vitro. This study used the erythrocyte membrane stabilization method from the induction of a hypotonic solution with samples of methanol partitioning, n-hexane partitioning and ethanol extract to be compared with a positive control, namely Na diclofenac. By analyzing the data using UV-Vis spectrophotometry test. These results were supported by the ANOVA statistical test which stated that there was a difference in each treatment and continued with the Tukey test which stated that there was no difference between 100 ppm diclofenac sodium and 400 ppm ethanol extract.Keywords: Extract, Basil (Ocimum americanum) Leaf, In Vitro. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode stabilisasi membran eritrosit dari induksi larutan hipotonik dengan sampel partisi metanol, partisi n-heksan dan ekstrak etanol yang akan dibandingkan dengan kontrol positif yaitu Na diklofenak. Dengan analisis data menggunakan uji spektrofotometri UV-Vis. Hasil ini didukung dengan uji statistik ANOVA yang menyatakan terdapat perbedaan pada setiap perlakuan dan dilanjutkan uji tukey yang menyatakan tidak ada perbedaan pada natrium diklofenak 100 ppm dengan ekstrak etanol konsentrasi 400 ppm.Kata Kunci : Ekstrak, Daun Kemangi (Ocimum americanum), In Vitro.

The methanol extract of leaves and stems of Glycosmis arborea and their pet-ether, carbon tetrachloride, chloroform and aqueous soluble partitionates were subjected to assays for antioxidant activity by Folin-Ciocalteau reagent, membrane stabilizing and thrombolytic activities. The carbon tetrachloride soluble fraction of stems of G. arborea demonstrated the presence of significant amount of phenolic compounds (36.95 ± 0.54 mg of GAE/g of extract). The extractives inhibited heat as well as hypotonic solution-induced haemolysis of rat erythrocytes in vitro. The pet-ether soluble fraction of leaves and stems of G. arborea showed 20.46 and 38.24% and 22.50 and 48.25%. inhibition of hemolysis of RBC caused by heat and hypotonic solution, as compared to 30.55 and 72.91% inhibition of hemolysis of RBC caused by the standard Acetyl salicylic acid at 0.01 mg/ml concentration, respectively. The methanol, ethanol and chlorofom leaf extracts of Satkara, Citrus assamensis (family: Rutaceae), were subjected to in vitro anti-bacterial, thrombolytic, membrane stabilizing and in vivo anti-inflammatory and antitumor activity tests. The chloroform extract of C. assamensis showed the most important spectrum of activity against Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, Sarcina lutea among 6 gram positive and against 11 gram negative bacteria at the concentration of 1000 μg/disc, while the range of zones of inhibition were within 7-16 mm. Among the tested three extracts CHCl3 extract showed potent thrombolytic activity and hypotonic solution induced haemolytic activity where the percentages of inhibition were found to be 35% and 55% respectively. All the extracts established significant (p<0.05) anti-inflammatory effect by regulating biphasic inflammatory process induced by carrageenan. The leaf extract dose-dependently and significantly decreases the number of EAC cell count and inhibition of cell growth in comparison to the EAC control and standard. The results obtained in the present study indicate that, C. assamensis leaf can be a potential source of anti-bacterial, thrombolytic, membrane stabilizing, anti-inflammatory and antitumor agents.

In the present study, analysis of in vitro inflammatory showed whole plant of Rhizophora mucronata Lam. (Malpighiales: Rhizophoraceae) can be the potent source. The data from this study showed that the R. mucronata leaf, bark and root extract could serve as an important anti-inflammatory agent. Moreover, among the three extracts, the stilt root and leaves extract showed highest anti inflammatory. In vitro anti-inflammatory activity of the selected plant extracts was evaluated using albumin denaturation, membrane stabilization and proteinase inhibitory assays. As part of the investigation on the mechanism of the anti-inflammation activity, ability of extract protein denaturation was studied. Maximum inhibition (296.26%) was observed from root extract followed by bark (259.48%) and leaf (237.62%). The extracts inhibited the heat induced hemolysis of RBCs to varying degree as show in table below. The maximum inhibition 284.17% was observed from bark extract followed by root (265.05%) and leaf (232.61%). It reveals that these phytochemical constituents are responsible to maximum protection of protein denaturation, albumin denaturation and membrane stabilization assay. The future work will be determination of anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic activities by in vivo models.

Arthritis is an autoimmune with chronic inflammatory, the patient has very painful due deformities and bone erosion which is caused by damage of the joints. The plant Pseudarthria viscida was collected from the Thirunelveli district and extracted with aqueous and ethanol solvent. The two method was used for determination of invitro anti-arthritic activity. The Inhibition of Protein Denaturation Method shows the anti-arthritic activity with the value from 40.46±0.72 to 78.36±0.64 for aqueous extract and 48.62±0.86 to 84.42±0.86 for ethanol extract and Inhibition of Proteinase Enzyme Activity shows 38.62±0.32 to 72.58±0.58 in aqueous extract and 46.28±0.58 to 80.52±0.56 in ethanol extract. Diclofenac sodium were used as standard, the concentration is 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500. In both the method the concentration of 500Microgram per milliliters shows maximum inhibition and compare to both extract the ethanol shows better activity than aqueous extract.

Albizia lebbeck (L.) Benth is an important traditional tree found throughout India. All part of this tree is considered as folk medicine and used for treatment of various disease. Current research work was carried out to identify the bioactive compound by phytochemical screening and to evaluate anti-inflammatory potential of aqueous leaf extract of A. lebbeck. The phytochemical screening of the leaf of A. lebbeck shows the presence of alkaloid, flavonoid, tannin, phenol, saponin, glycoside and free amino acid. The maximum inhibition of protein denaturation was found to be 78.06±0.5% at 500 µg/mL concentration and its IC₅₀ was 330 µg/mL concentration. The maximum inhibition in membrane stabilization was found to be 74.09±0.33% at 500 µg/mL concentration and its IC₅₀ was 440 µg/mL concentration. The maximum protection in hypotonicity induced haemolysis shows about 69.34±0.38% at 500 µg/mL concentration and its IC₅₀ was 400 µg/mL concentration. In vitro assay shows the moderate activity of anti-inflammatory in aqueous extract of A. lebbeck, when compared with the standard.

Alstonia scholaris (L.) R.Br. is a medicinal herb belonging to the family Apocyanaceae. Locally it is known as Chatim and abundant with ethno-medicinal properties. The crude ethanolic extract of A. scholaris leaves along with its n-hexane, ethyl acetate, dichloromethane and aqueous soluble partitionates were assayed for their probable thrombolytic and membrane stabilizing activities. The activities of the leaf extract were compared to standard drugs, streptokinase for thrombolytic and acetyl salicylic acid for membrane stabilizing activities. In this study, among all extractives the highest thrombolytic activity was exhibited by the crude ethanolic extract (55.33±0.08%) (p < 0.001) as compared to Streptokinase (62.07±0.33%) (p < 0.001). Alternatively, ethanol soluble materials also significantly inhibited the haemolysis of human erythrocyte membrane both in induced by hypotonic solution (83.47±0.15%) (p < 0.001) and by heat (79.82±0.71%) (p < 0.001), respectively as compared to standard acetyl salicylic acid (85.09±0.8%) (p < 0.001) and (80.98±1.34%) (p < 0.001).Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Journal 21(2): 145-149, 2018

The crude methanol extract of leaves of Polygonum glabrum Willd and its Kupchan fractions were screened for cytotoxic, membrane stabilizing and thrombolytic activities. Among all fractions, the crude methanol extract showed significant cytotoxic activity having LC50 value 0.74 ± 0.045 ?g/ml. Moreover, in hypotonic solution- and heat- induced conditions, the crude methanol extract inhibited hemolysis of human erythrocyte by 79.21 ± 0.44% and 84.87±0.23%, respectively as compared to 71.9 ± 0.73% and 42.12 ± 0.37% demonstrated by the standard acetyl salicylic acid. On the other hand, in thrombolytic activity assay the methanol extract demonstrated highest clot lysis value of 35.17 ± 0.42%. Abstract Background : In the present study, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory activities and antioxidant properties in four diverse dissolvable concentrates of four lesser known ethnomedicinal plants viz. Apluda mutica, Mikania micrantha, Kyllinga nemoralis and Cleome rutidosperma were investigated. Methods: The benzene, chloroform, methanol and 70% aqueous (aq.) ethanol extract of these plants were tried for antioxidant by various established in vitro systems like total phenolic content, DPPH free radical scavenging, ABTS radical cation scavenging, metal chelating activity. Anti-diabetic and anti-inflammatory activities were explored by quantifying α-amylase, α-glucosidase and protein denaturation inhibitory activities of the investigated plants. Results: Among the various solvents 70% aq. ethanol extract of M. micrantha had the highest total phenolic content (230.450 ± 0.12mg GAE/g extract), DPPH & ABTS radical scavenging activity, FRAP value (4.122± 0.004 μM Trolox equivalent/ g dry extract), anti-lipid peroxidation capacity, reducing power and metal chelating activity. The highest amount of total flavonoid was detected in the 70% aq. ethanol extract of C. rutidosprema (71.050 ± 0.058 mg RE /g extract. Similarly M. micrantha also exhibited significantly lower IC 50 values for the percentage inhibition of α-amylase (IC50 58.44 ± 0.012 µg/ml) and α-glucosidase (IC50 113.31 ± 0.010 µg/ml) compared to acarbose (IC50 = 53.8 ± 0.009 µg/ml ; IC50 = 79.48 ± 0.006 µg/ml respectively) (p ≤ 0.05). Anti-inflammatory activity was determined by using protein denaturation assay and M. micrantha showed significant lower IC50 value for the inhibition of protein denaturation (IC50= 89.27 ± 0.008 µg/ml) compared to other plants under investigation. Quantification of polyphenolics by HPLC showed the presence of different phenolic acids in varying amounts. Conclusion: Therefore, the results indicate that these plants were shown to contain a remarkable amount of different bio-active compounds, thus confirming their involvement in several biological activities and to serve as a potential antioxidative, anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic agent in food and pharmaceutical industries.
