Arthritis is an autoimmune with chronic inflammatory, the patient has very painful due deformities and bone erosion which is caused by damage of the joints. The plant Pseudarthria viscida was collected from the Thirunelveli district and extracted with aqueous and ethanol solvent. The two method was used for determination of invitro anti-arthritic activity. The Inhibition of Protein Denaturation Method shows the anti-arthritic activity with the value from 40.46±0.72 to 78.36±0.64 for aqueous extract and 48.62±0.86 to 84.42±0.86 for ethanol extract and Inhibition of Proteinase Enzyme Activity shows 38.62±0.32 to 72.58±0.58 in aqueous extract and 46.28±0.58 to 80.52±0.56 in ethanol extract. Diclofenac sodium were used as standard, the concentration is 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500. In both the method the concentration of 500Microgram per milliliters shows maximum inhibition and compare to both extract the ethanol shows better activity than aqueous extract.

Wood apple botanically identified as Limonia acidissima is an indigenous fruit with amazing nutritional and health benefits. Reports from traditional literature of Ayurveda and Siddha portrays the medicinal properties of this fruit. The scooped pulp of the ripe fruit is consumed as such or it can be made into different recipes. But inclusion of this fruit in our diet is not found as a regular practice. Many people are still unaware of the benefits of this fruit. Hence, this study was taken up to unravel the biological potencies of this fruit by conducting in vitro experiments. Phytochemicals such as alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, saponins and ascorbic acid have been estimated. Anti-inflammatory activity of the aqueous extract of fruit pulp combined with outer rind has been evaluated through inhibition of albumin denaturation. Among the 5 different concentrations (200, 400, 600, 800, 1000 µg/ml), at 1000 µg/ml wood apple has shown 74.55% of protein denaturation inhibition which was compared with standard Diclofenac sodium. Antioxidant capacity of the extract was expressed as mg/100g ascorbic acid equivalent through phosphomolybdenum assay. Dose dependent increase in the antioxidant activity was observed. About 8 different concentrations of the aqueous extract of L. acidissima were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity on MCF 7 cell line. At a concentration of 1000 µg/ml, the extract has shown 93.43% of cytotoxicity and 6.57% of cell viability. Apoptotic induction was evaluated and confirmed by the formation of DNA ladders through DNA fragmentation assay. GCMS analysis of wood apple fruit pulp and rind revealed the presence of several phytochemicals among which many of them had therapeutic activity reported earlier.

Albizia lebbeck (L.) Benth is an important traditional tree found throughout India. All part of this tree is considered as folk medicine and used for treatment of various disease. Current research work was carried out to identify the bioactive compound by phytochemical screening and to evaluate anti-inflammatory potential of aqueous leaf extract of A. lebbeck. The phytochemical screening of the leaf of A. lebbeck shows the presence of alkaloid, flavonoid, tannin, phenol, saponin, glycoside and free amino acid. The maximum inhibition of protein denaturation was found to be 78.06±0.5% at 500 µg/mL concentration and its IC₅₀ was 330 µg/mL concentration. The maximum inhibition in membrane stabilization was found to be 74.09±0.33% at 500 µg/mL concentration and its IC₅₀ was 440 µg/mL concentration. The maximum protection in hypotonicity induced haemolysis shows about 69.34±0.38% at 500 µg/mL concentration and its IC₅₀ was 400 µg/mL concentration. In vitro assay shows the moderate activity of anti-inflammatory in aqueous extract of A. lebbeck, when compared with the standard.

Background: The use of plants for healing dates back to very remote times. Nowadays with the accession of new diseases plants are increasingly used for the formulation of new drugs able to overcome the many diseases (cancer, atherosclerosis) often caused by the disorder of the system prooxidant/antioxidant. Aim/Objective: On the strength of this observation, the research of an antioxidant plant is essential, hence the aim of this study, which is to determine the antioxidant activity of the stalk and the fruit of Solanum aethiopicum L. Methods: The fruits and stalk were washed, cut into fine slats, then dried in the incubator for three days and finally crushed into powder. An extraction by decoction with ethanol (stalks and fruits) and water (fruit) was subsequently carried out to obtain three extracts (ethanol and water). Antioxidant activity was evaluated through the FRAP method, and the trapping of radical DPPH. Results: For the FRAP method, at the highest concentration (1 mg/ml) the aqueous extract of the fruit (74.84±2.97%) has a higher reducing power compared to those of the ethanolic extracts of the fruit (70.15 ± 5.72%) and the stalk (49.85 ± 2.11%). These reducing powers, although significant, remain lower than those of tannic acid (89.95±0.007%). And finally, for the DPPH method, the aqueous extract of the fruit is more effective in reducing free radical DPPH with a IC50= 162±33 µg/ml, follow up by ethanol extract from the stalk (IC50= 360± 90 µg/ml) and finally ethanol extract from the fruit (IC50= 362.5± 23.5 µg/ml). These results confirm the in vitro antioxidant activity of the studied parts of Solanum aethiopicum. Conclusion: Prospective studies could focus on acute and subacute toxicities and the determination of the molecules responsible for the activity.

The present study was conducted to evaluate the antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and membrane stabilizing, antioxidant, thrombolytic, anti-diarrheal activities of Scindapsu shederaceus belonging to the Araceae family. In antipyretic test, temperature reduced from 101.53°F to 99.86°F (p<0.05), 99.20°F (p<0.05) and 99.06°F (p<0.05) in 1st, 2nd and 3rd hour, respectively and caused maximum reduction of temperature in 1st hour. In the hot plate method, the extract increased the reaction time of heat sensation significantly to 14.32 seconds. In in vitro anti-inflammatory test, the extract significantly inhibited protein denaturation by 85.17% at 500 ?g/ml, 71.72% at 250 ?g/ml and by 66.55% at 125 ?g/ml. It also inhibited the hypotonic solution-induced haemolysis by 73.19%, 49.69% and 29.15% at same concentration in membrane stabilizing assay. In DPPH inhibition assay the extract showed maximum % inhibition of 65.5% at 100 ?g/ml. In the assay of thrombolytic activity, the extract showed thrombolytic activity of 14.39%. Amylase inhibitory activity was found to be 22.38% at a concentration 100 ?g/ml. The methanol extract of the whole plant of Blumea lacera (Burn.f.) DC. (BLME) has been subjected to preliminary screenings for phytoconstituents and antipyretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities. Antipyretic activity was assessed by the yeast-induced hyperthermia in mice. The analgesic property was evaluated by formalin-induced writhing test. Acetyl salicylic acid (ASA) was used as standard for in-vitro anti-inflammatory activity test. In yeast-induced pyrexia, the crude extract demonstrated a significant (p=0.05) reduction in body temperature of mice after elevation by the administration of yeast. These effects were pronounced at the 2nd and 3rd h of post-treatment with the extract. BLME exhibited a dose-dependent analgesic activity with 39.13% and 56.52% protection at 200-and 400-mg/kg, b.w., respectively as compared to 76.09% revealed by the standard diclofenac sodium. In the anti-inflammatory test, the crude extract at 400 ?g/ml displayed 62.40% inhibition of protein denaturation whereas standard acetyl salicylic acid exhibited 76.74% inhibition. To study the anti-inflammatory effect of Punica granatum extract against the oral microbes. Oral diseases continue to be a major health problem worldwide. Dental caries and periodontal diseases are among the most important global oral health problems, although conditions such as oral and pharyngeal cancers and oral tissue lesions are also significant health concerns. Pomegranate extracts have been used for centuries in traditional medicine to confer health benefits in a number of inflammatory diseases, microbial infections and cancer. The anti-inflammatory activity of pomegranate extract was evaluated by protein denaturation assay, and the results were read spectrophotometrically. Denaturation of proteins is a great‐ documented cause of inflammation. As a part of the investigation on the mechanism of the anti-inflammatory activity, the ability to extract to inhibit protein denaturation was studied. It was effective in inhibiting heat induced albumin denaturation at different concentrations as shown in Table 1. Maximum inhibition, 70.12±1.12% was observed at500µg/ml. IC50 value was found to be 105.35±1.99µg/ml. Aspirin, a standard anti-inflammatory drug showed the maximum inhibition, 77.12±1.42% at the concentration of 200µg/ml. Hence it can be concluded that pomegranate extract has anti-inflammatory property and also can be used in products such as toothpaste and mouth wash etc.

Various strategies have been employed in the treatment and management of Salmonella infection however, Salmonella strains have gained resistance to antibiotics. This study was to determine in vitro anti-Salmonella activity of Boerhaavia diffusa leaf extract against clinical isolate of Salmonella typhi and Salmonella typhi ATCC 14028. The aqueous and ethanol extracts of B. diffusa were studied for their antibacterial activity against pathogenic Salmonella typhi. This study was carried out between April and September 2018. The in vitro antibacterial activity was performed by agar well diffusion method and broth dilution using spectrophotometric method and the results were expressed as the average diameter of zone of inhibition of bacterial growth around the well and optical density respectively. It was observed that aqueous extract exerted slightly higher activity than ethanolic extract as revealed by the mean diameter of zone of inhibitions at a concentration of 200 mg/ml, the aqueous extract had 35.21±0.47 mm (Salmonella typhi ATCC 14028) compared with ethanol extract 26.41±0.32 mm (clinical). However, in the broth dilution method, ethanol extract significantly (p=0.05) reduced the cell, at 48 hours, the optical density of clinical isolate of S. typhi treated at concentration of 200 mg/ml of extract was 0.47±0.02 nm while at the same concentration of extract, aqueous extract had an optical density of 0.52±0.11 nm respectively. The phytochemical assay revealed that tannin (5.18±0.02 mg/g) and quinone (8.45±0.13 mg/g) in ethanol extract was significantly (p=0.05) higher than aqueous extract while saponin (14.18±0.06 mg/g) was higher in the aqueous extract. The ethanol and aqueous extracts of leaves of B. diffusa whole plant exhibited significant antibacterial activity against both clinical and typed Salmonella typhi. Therefore, the plant extract could be used for the treatment of Salmonellosis, however, the in vivo studies is needed to ascertain the safety of the extract.

Bitter melon contains flavonoids that have anti-inflammatory function. Inflammation can be caused by protein denaturation. This research tested the anti-inflammatory potential of ethanol extract of leaves and bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer and protein denaturation inhibition method. There were three experimental groups formed in this research including negative control group, positive control group, and test solutions. Diclofenac sodium was used in the positive control group at concentration series of 1, 2, 4, 8, and 16 ppm, obtaining a regression equation Y = 3.546X + 2.163 and r = 0.9990. Whilst, for bitter melon ethanol extract at a series of concentrations of 10, 20, 40, 80 and 160 ppm obtained a regression equation Y = 0.243X + 11.74 and r = 0.9995. The potential of diclofenac sodium as an anti-inflammatory agent was shown by IC50 of 13.490 µg / mL, while the ethanol extract of bitter melon fruit has an IC50 of 157.448 µg / mL. This result indicated that bitter melon ethanol extract had the potential as moderate anti-inflammatory agent.

AbstractBasil plant (Ocimum americanum) is efficacious as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity. According to research by Sarma and Babu, 2011, Verma and Kothiyal, 2012 showed basil activity as an antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-diabetic, anthelmintic, antifungal, insecticide, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and lowering total cholesterol and LDL-C levels. The purpose of this study was to determine the stabilization activity of red blood cell membranes on methanol partitioning, n-hexane partitioning and ethanol extract of basil leaves in vitro. This study used the erythrocyte membrane stabilization method from the induction of a hypotonic solution with samples of methanol partitioning, n-hexane partitioning and ethanol extract to be compared with a positive control, namely Na diclofenac. By analyzing the data using UV-Vis spectrophotometry test. These results were supported by the ANOVA statistical test which stated that there was a difference in each treatment and continued with the Tukey test which stated that there was no difference between 100 ppm diclofenac sodium and 400 ppm ethanol extract.Keywords: Extract, Basil (Ocimum americanum) Leaf, In Vitro. AbstrakTumbuhan Kemangi (Ocimum americanum) berkhasiat sebagai aktivitas sebagai anti-inflamasi dan analgesik. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui aktivitas stabilisasi membran sel darah merah pada partisi metanol, partisi n-heksan dan ekstrak etanol daun kemangi secara in vitro. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode stabilisasi membran eritrosit dari induksi larutan hipotonik dengan sampel partisi metanol, partisi n-heksan dan ekstrak etanol yang akan dibandingkan dengan kontrol positif yaitu Na diklofenak. Dengan analisis data menggunakan uji spektrofotometri UV-Vis. Hasil ini didukung dengan uji statistik ANOVA yang menyatakan terdapat perbedaan pada setiap perlakuan dan dilanjutkan uji tukey yang menyatakan tidak ada perbedaan pada natrium diklofenak 100 ppm dengan ekstrak etanol konsentrasi 400 ppm.Kata Kunci : Ekstrak, Daun Kemangi (Ocimum americanum), In Vitro.
