The aim of the study was to identify and evaluate the relationship between the indicators of solar activity, the content of magnesium in the blood and the level of oxygen utilization by tissues in men with different temperaments and anxiety, suffering from arterial hypertension. During the period of the study from 1995 to 2015, sick and healthy men were divided into equal groups with a predominance of choleric, sanguine, phlegmatic and melancholic temperament with high and low anxiety. The average annual values of the Wolf numbers, the radio emission of the Sun at a wavelength of 10,7 cm, atmospheric pressure, gamma background and air temperature were taken into account, and the content of magnesium and hemoglobin in the blood serum was determined. The oxygen concentration was determined by the calculated method. A statistically significant direct correlation has been established between the increase in solar activity (Wolf numbers, radio emission flux at a wavelength of 10.7 cm), on the one hand, and atmospheric pressure, air temperature, and the gamma background of the environment, on the other. Under the same environmental conditions, the content of magnesium in the blood and the level of oxygen utilization by the body tissues of patients with arterial hypertension decreased in the temperamental range from high- and low-anxiety sympathotonics (choleric and sanguine) to parasympathotonics (high- and low-anxiety phlegmatic and melancholic). During the study period, a statistically significant relationship was established between an increase in solar activity (Wolf numbers, radio emission flux), atmospheric pressure, air temperature, and gamma background, on the one hand, and a decrease in the content of magnesium in the blood, as well as the level of oxygen utilization by tissues in healthy high- and low-anxiety individuals and patients with arterial hypertension, regardless of temperament.

Beginning in summer 1957, W. N. Christiansen and D. S. Mathewson [1] have regularly obtained two-dimensional radioheliograms at λ = 21 cm with a resolving power of 3 minutes of arc. The authors have already noticed the close connection between the regions of radio emission on the one side and the fields of spots and faculae on the other side. Considering, however, that the radio emission at the wavelength involved emerges from heights of 20,000 to 50,000, or even up to 100,000 km above the photosphere, i.e. from the inner corona, it seems to be more suitable to compare the radioheliograms with the optical emission of the corona than with the photospheric and chromospheric phenomena. Yet, as the coronal observations can be carried out at the solar limb only, it is difficult to get optical pictures of the corona in front of the sun's disk. Such a picture has to be built up from the daily limb-observations covering the period from 7 days before to 7 days after the date in question; e.g. the coronal intensities shown along the central meridian are measured 7 days before at the E-limb or 7 days later at the W-limb. Since the corona may change greatly within a few days—especially during the present high solar activity—the reliability of an optical corona-picture diminishes from the limb to the central meridian. In addition, a further uncertainty has to be considered in constructing coronal maps, in so far as no station possesses complete coronal observations; therefore, observations of different stations have to be used, which are very difficult to reduce to each other. The main difficulty of such a reduction arises from the fact that the single stations carry out their observations at different distances from the sun's limb ranging from 20,000 to 45,000 km. The coronagrams discussed in the following are based on the intensities of the green coronal line 5303 Å as published in the Quarterly Bulletin on Solar Activity [2].

Тhe purpose of the study: to establish a correlation between the average annual values of the minute volume of blood flow in hypertensive men with different temperaments and high anxiety and solar activity. There were 848 patients with arterial hypertension and 422 healthy individuals. All of them were determined by temperament and anxiety, and the minute volume of blood flow. To compare the calculated method for determining the minute volume of blood flow with the hardware method, the authors measured the minute volume of blood flow in patients using tetrapolar rheography on a 6-NEG device connected with a computer and compared it with the value of the minute volume of blood flow determined by calculation. Data on the dynamics of solar activity in wolf numbers and radio emission at a wavelength of 10.5 cm were obtained from the West-Siberian Department for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring. During the period of increased solar activity, the body was affected by a complex of factors, including socio-economic factors, together with ionizing radiation of the environment; contribute to a decrease in the coefficient of oxygen utilization by tissues, which caused the development of an adaptive reaction, part of which was an increase in the minute volume of blood flow. A significant correlation was established between solar activity indicators, meteorological factors, and minute blood flow volume, which indicates the possibility of a combined effect of the studied factors on increasing the functional activity of the cardiovascular system.

Correlation between the annual average values of minute volume of blood flow in healthy men with different psychosomatic status, suffering from arterial hypertension, and Solar activity from 1995 to 2015 was investigated. Variations of γ-background during the study period did not exceed the limits of normal regional values (7-9 µr/h). However, the analysis of solar activity dynamics represented periodic increase and a momentary increase by the 2005-2006. With the increase in solar activity and γ-ray background a significant reduction of oxygen utilization coefficient by tissues of healthy individuals and patients with different temperament was noted. The increase in solar activity was followed by an increase in ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure. The study showed a significant increase in minute volume of blood flow in the groups of healthy individuals and patients in the same years as the increase in solar activity and γ-background environment. There has been established a significant correlation relationship between indicators of solar activity, meteorological factors and minute volume of blood flow that indicates on the possibility of combined effects of the studied environmental factors to affect the course of physiological processes in organism of both healthy and hypertension person. Overall, it was reflected in the increase of functional activity of the cardiovascular system (by minute volume of blood flow).

As virtually all Europe's major socialist parties re-aligned with their own national governments with the outbreak of World War I, Irish socialist and trade unionist James Connolly found himself internationally isolated by his vociferous opposition to the war. Within Ireland, however, Connolly's energetic and relentless calls to interrupt the imperial transportation and communications networks on which the ‘carnival of murder’ in Europe relied had the converse effect, drawing him into alignment with certain strains of Irish nationalism. Connolly and other socialist republican stalwarts like Helena Molony and Michael Mallin made common cause with advanced Irish nationalism, the one other constituency unamenable to fighting for England under any circumstances. This centripetal gathering together of two minority constituencies – both intrinsically opposed, if not to the war itself, certainly to Irish Party leader John Redmond's offering up of the Irish Volunteers as British cannon fodder – accounts for the “remarkably diverse” social and ideological character of the small executive body responsible for the planning of the Easter Rising: the Irish Republican Brotherhood's military council. In effect, the ideological composition of the body that planned the Easter Rising was shaped by the war's systematic diversion of all individuals and ideologies that could be co-opted by British imperialism through any possible argument or material inducement. Although the majority of those who participated in the Rising did not share Connolly's anti-war, pro-socialist agenda, the Easter 1916 Uprising can nonetheless be understood as, among other things, a near letter-perfect instantiation of Connolly's most steadfast principle: that it was the responsibility of every European socialist to throw onto the gears of the imperialist war machine every wrench on which they could lay their hands.

Abstract Nowadays the facades of newly built buildings have significant glazed surfaces. The solar gains in these buildings can produce discomfort caused by direct solar radiation on the one hand and by the higher indoor air temperature on the other hand. The amplitude of the indoor air temperature variation depends on the glazed area, orientation of the facade and heat storage capacity of the building. This paper presents the results of a simulation, which were made in the Passol Laboratory of University of Debrecen in order to define the internal temperature variation. The simulation proved that the highest amplitudes of the internal temperature are obtained for East orientation of the facade. The upper acceptable limit of the internal air temperature is exceeded for each analyzed orientation: North, South, East, West. Comparing different building structures, according to the obtained results, in case of the heavy structure more cooling hours are obtained, but the energy consumption for cooling is lower.

The Woman Who Turned Into a Jaguar examines gender relations in indigenous societies of central Mexico and Oaxaca from the 1520s to the 1750s, focusing mainly on the Nahua, Ñudzahui (Mixtec), Bènizàa (Zapotec), and Ayuk (Mixe) people. This study draws on an unusually rich and diverse corpus of original sources, including Ñudzahui- (Mixtec-), Tíchazàa- (Zapotec-), and mainly Nahuatl-language and Spanish civil and criminal records, published texts, and pictorial manuscripts. The sources come from more than 100 indigenous communities of highland Mexico. The book considers women’s lives in the broadest context possible by addressing a number of interrelated topics, including: the construction of gender; concepts of the body; women’s labor; marriage rituals and marital relations; sexual attitudes; family structure; the relationship between household and community; and women’s participation in riots and other acts of civil disobedience. The study highlights subtle transformations and overwhelming continuities in indigenous social attitudes and relationships. The book argues that profound changes following the Spanish conquest, such as catastrophic depopulation, economic pressures, and the imposition of Christian marriage, slowly eroded indigenous women’s status. Nevertheless, gender relations remained inherently complementary. The study shows how native women and men under colonial rule, on the one hand, pragmatically accepted, adopted, and adapted certain Spanish institutions, concepts, and practices, and, on the other, forcefully rejected other aspects of colonial impositions. Women asserted their influence and, in doing so, they managed to retain an important position within their households and communities across the first two centuries of colonial rule.

AbstractBody ownership concerns what it is like to feel a body part or a full body as mine, and has become a prominent area of study. We propose that there is a closely related type of bodily self-consciousness largely neglected by researchers—experiential ownership. It refers to the sense that I am the one who is having a conscious experience. Are body ownership and experiential ownership actually the same phenomenon or are they genuinely different? In our experiments, the participant watched a rubber hand or someone else’s body from the first-person perspective and was touched either synchronously or asynchronously. The main findings: (1) The sense of body ownership was hindered in the asynchronous conditions of both the body-part and the full-body experiments. However, a strong sense of experiential ownership was observed in those conditions. (2) We found the opposite when the participants’ responses were measured after tactile stimulations had ceased for 5 s. In the synchronous conditions of another set of body-part and full-body experiments, only experiential ownership was blocked but not body ownership. These results demonstrate for the first time the double dissociation between body ownership and experiential ownership. Experiential ownership is indeed a distinct type of bodily self-consciousness.

Introduction. Sleep-related breathing disorders, including sleep apnea and hypoxemia during sleep, are common in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), but the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. Overnight fluid shift from the legs to the upper airway and to the lungs promotes obstructive and central sleep apnea, respectively, in fluid retaining states. The main objective was to evaluate if overnight rostral fluid shift from the legs to the upper part of the body is associated with sleep-related breathing disorders in PAH. Methods. In a prospective study, a group of stable patients with idiopathic, heritable, related to drugs, toxins, or treated congenital heart disease PAH underwent a polysomnography and overnight fluid shift measurement by bioelectrical impedance in the month preceding or following a one-day hospitalization according to regular PAH follow-up schedule with a right heart catheterization. Results. Among 15 patients with PAH (women: 87%; median [25th;75th percentiles] age: 40 [32;61] years; mean pulmonary arterial pressure 56 [46;68] mmHg; pulmonary vascular resistance 8.8 [6.4;10.1] Wood units), 2 patients had sleep apnea and 8 (53%) had hypoxemia during sleep without apnea. The overnight rostral fluid shift was 168 [118;263] mL per leg. Patients with hypoxemia during sleep had a greater fluid shift (221 [141; 361] mL) than those without hypoxemia (118 [44; 178] mL, p = 0.045). Conclusion. This pilot study suggests that hypoxemia during sleep is associated with overnight rostral fluid shift in PAH.

AbstractThis paper is a self-reflective narrative of our teaching experience as two immigrant Asian female professors who teach Multicultural Education. Employing collaborative autoethnography (CAE), the study addresses the issues of authority, positionality, and legitimacy of knowledge claims in critical feminist pedagogy. Two research questions guided our inquiry: 1. How does a teacher’s racial positionality play out in exercising professional knowledge, and conversely, 2. How does seemingly neutral professional knowledge become racialized in the discussions of race? Major findings demonstrate the double-edged contradictions in the body/knowledge nexus manifested in our everyday teaching contexts. On the one hand, the bodily dimension of teacher knowledge is de-racialized because of institutional norms and cultures. On the other hand, there are times professional knowledge becomes racialized through the teacher’s body. Understanding the body/knowledge nexus that invites precarious power dynamics in racial discussions and even blatantly dismisses our professional knowledge, we, as an immigrant faculty of color, find it impossible to create a safe environment for participatory, critical discourse. Acknowledging our triple marginality, we put forth the concept of “pedagogy of fear” (Leonardo, Z., & Porter, R. K. (2010). Pedagogy of fear: Toward a Fanonian theory of ‘safety’ in race dialogue. Race, Ethnicity and Education, 13(2), 139–157) which squarely disrupts the idea of a safe environment in race dialog and urges teachers to confront their own/their students’ fear and create a space of teaching vulnerably.

AbstractThis article adopts a disability studies perspective to evaluate the ways in which Mauricio Kagel's Repertoire from Staatstheater reimagines human bodies. Objects and bodies interact in myriad ways within the one hundred vignettes of Repertoire: some objects hinder or aid the bodies on stage, while others become incorporated within the body, acting as a single expressive unit. My analysis demonstrates the ways in which both objects and bodies transform their traditional roles as ascribed by society, rejecting procrustean physiques. Using disability studies concepts such as embodiment and experientialism I evaluate sound and physical action as inextricable expressions of imaginative corporealities. Reflecting upon Kagel's identity as an outsider of the European avant-garde, as well as his irreverence for oppressive social institutions, I evince that other forms of hierarchical disruptions are at play, namely that abled bodies do not preside over disabled ones and notions of beauty hold no clout.
