The article considers the issues of the integrity of the spatial organization of urban centers in the process of their development due to the hereditary use of the features of external and internal compositional constructions and connections. The central part of the historic city, with all the variety of its microstructures, has the unity of internal compositional-spatial solutions of the open in space and time system of the city center. Particular attention is paid to the composition of urban centers, the desire for clarity of their definition, to emphasize the internal integrity, to highlight the structure of the city. At the same time, the center should be the focus of the characteristics of the city as a whole, to determine its image, uniqueness, individuality. Determining the basic principles of hereditary development of compositional and spatial features of urban centers expands the boundaries of research on the interdependence of semantic and semiotic characteristics of their structure in the process of development and in modern conditions. The city center is a concentrated imagination of the unusualness that is so necessary for the inhabitants of cities that are too uniform in the processes of modern technical and technological progress. These processes are inseparable from the threat of erasure of individual features in the field of urban planning, which today in comparison with the historical architectural and urban heritage is characterized by much less socio-humanistic specificity in only one city, but also the country and even a number of countries. This fact underlies the emotional-aesthetic phenomenon, which is the attraction of the inhabitants of anonymous cities to the uniqueness of the environment, preserved in the central parts of historic cities. That is why the preservation of the originality of the compositional and spatial constructions of the city center acquires special significance.

Historic centers have become first-line tourist destinations. In order to achieve sustainable development, it is essential to get to know the opinions of the host community on the impact of tourism, the positives, as well as the negatives. This paper aims to understand the residents’ opinions and perceptions of destinations as the historic cities. This research looks into the residents’ opinions on the impact of tourism in the historic city of Toledo, Spain. The results of a quantitative survey among 442 residents in the city of Toledo are presented. The study is a revision of the literature and analysis and explanation of an empiric study’s results. Descriptive statistics have been used, as well as factor analysis and non-parametric tests to analyze data. The main results point out that residents have a positive vision of tourism development, rather than negative. The economic importance of tourism and its ability to create jobs stand out. However, they also think that the historic center is being turned into a museum for tourists. Analyzing their opinions according to certain demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, some major differences come up, such as that the inhabitants of residential areas have a more positive opinion than those who live in the historic center. Understanding the perspective of the residents can help the managers and planners of the tourism in the city to play down the potential negative impact of tourism and to achieve support from the host community in regards to tourism.

The article views the classifi cation and features of the formation of objects of landscape architecture in the structure of households of the estate building of the XIX - beginning of the XX centuries on the example of the city of Samara taking into account the town-planning features: social affi liation, location relative to the historic city center, density, height, functional and planning type of buildings. Emphasis is placed on the preservation of objects of landscape architecture within the borders of the existing households, which form the basis of the planning of the neighborhoods of the historic city center. Considering the identifi ed classifi cation a technique for the preservation and development of landscape architecture objects in modern conditions is proposed.

Purpose: Based on the perspective of community governance, the paper explores the research path of public space renewal in historic city districts. Taking the historical public space of Lhasa City as an example, this paper analyzes the causes of the characteristics of public space, analyzes the logical relationship between public space and urban renewal and community governance, and finally optimizes the pattern of historical public space of Lhasa City by improving the spatial structure. Create intelligent living blocks and optimize the life mode of historical blocks; Significance: From the human-oriented perspective, the exploration of the public space renewal in the Historic Districts was in essence a process in which people develop continuously and their needs are continuously satisfied. It could meet the multi-level needs of residents at different stages. Secondly, from a social perspective, the innovative pattern of community governance could help achieve self-satisfaction within the district, radiate to the surrounding industries, and relieve the pressure of social employment. Thirdly, from the perspective of urban renewal implementation, the research on the public space renewal the Historic Districts would help promote the balance of social ecological environment, improve the regional governance and promote the high-quality development of the city.

Abstract. Cuenca in Ecuador is a growing city, weak in the face of the changes that the expansion phenomenon implies. The area of El Ejido was the first expansion area of the city with valuable samples of the arrival of modernity in the city. Nowadays, this sector is not exempted from the effects of urban growth and deserves to be managed through a proper management plan for its preservation. Degraded landscapes have been identified, modern heritage architecture shows clear symptoms of abandonment and low maintenance, causing the disappearance of historic buildings. Given these and other problems associated with urban development, Cuenca, like other cities, has taken the initiative of adopting the Recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) adopted by UNESCO in 2011, as a measure to safeguard urban heritage. In 2014, the implementation of this relatively new approach was first initiated in the pilot area of the Historic City Centre of Cuenca. This area was included in the World Heritage List in 1999 based on criteria II, IV, and V.However, aware of the significant heritage values embedded at El Ejido and its close urban and landscape link with the Historical City Center, the aim of this research is the implementation of the HUL’s approach in a specific area located in El Ejido. Due to the clear difference between this sector and the Historical City Center, it is necessary to assess the first methodology used and work on a methodology that can be extrapolated to this sector and further on to other sectors of the city. To obtain the methodology for this area, it is essential to carry out a territorial exploration in cities with similar characteristics to Cuenca that are implementing an approach based on the study of the Historical Urban Landscape Recommendation.

The fast development of urbanization has led to imbalances in cities, causing congestion, pollution, and urban sprawl. In response to the growing concern over the distribution of demand and supply, a more coordinated urban structure is addressed in comprehensive planning processes. In this study, we attempt to identify urban structure using a Network–Activity–Human model under the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) concept, since TOD is usually regarded as an urban spatial planning tool. In order to explore the strengths and weaknesses of the urban structure, we define the TOD index and unbalance degree and then classify the urban areas accordingly. We take the city of Beijing as a case study and identify nine urban types. The results show a hierarchical urban structure: the city center covers most of the hotspots which display higher imbalances, the surroundings of the city center are less developed, and the city edges show higher potentials in both exploitation and transportation development. Moreover, we discuss the extent to which the spatial scale influences the unbalance degree and apply a sensitivity analysis based on the goals of different stakeholders. This methodology could be utilized at any study scale and in any situation, and the results could offer suggestions for more accurate urban planning, strengthening the relationship between TOD and spatial organization.

The system of organization of pedestrian traffi c is one of the urgent problems of the modern city. The aim of this work is to study the trends in the development of pedestrian spaces in the world, as the global trend and preconditions validation of this trend for the city of Togliatt i, a town-planning trends relevant for him. The article reveals the general typological principles and patt erns of occurrence of the pedestrian streets. In accordance with the purpose of research, the article describes the basic principles of pedestrian spaces and the current methods of their design. The att ention is focused on the current state of the issue in urban planning theory and practice. Formulated practical relevance and the need to establish in the city of Togliatt i such public spaces as pedestrian streets.


The high traffic volume is the main source of the congestion in cities, which is a big problem on transportation systems. This congestion is the main cause of the increase in the level of noise and air pollution in urban centers what directly affects the quality of life of the population. Also, contributing to the big number of vehicle conflicts that affects the performance of the transportation systems and the quality of life of the population. These problems are the result of the high volumes of the through traffic. Therefore, to reduce the traffic volume in urban center of Guimarães, Portugal we studied a possible conclusion of the ring road, on the slope of the Penha hill for the morning peak hour. To carry out our study, the Origin – Destination Matrix for peak hour was estimated from the data of traffic counts. Concluding that there was a reduction of the traffic volume in the section of the ring road that was already built. However, in the city center there were no major variations of the traffic volume and accessibilities.

The cities of the former Kedu Residency are part of cities in Java that have experienced growth and change over time. Although not a big cities in its time, the cities of the former Kedu Residency show an important role in the interior of Central Java. Its distinctive history in the 19th and 20th centuries formed a city center with an interesting city structure to study. This study aims to study the urban centers of the former Kedu Residency, namely the City of Magelang, Purworejo, Temanggung, Wonosobo, and Kebumen through urban morphology approach by observing the forms (morpho) of the city, such as urban tissue or city shaped, road tissue, land arrangements and buildings. The morphology analysis of the city in the urban centers of the former Kedu Residency shows the interesting facts, namely the development of the city, specifically the city center, from time to time while maintaining the basic characteristics of the traditional city morphology.

The city of Angra, whose name derives from the small cove that serves as its port, is the oldest one in the Azores Archipelago, Portugal. It is located on the southern coast of Terceira Island and has this category by letter of D. João III of 21st August 1534. From the beginning, the importance of its port for the Atlantic navigation and as a scale of the designated India’s Career led chronicler Gaspar Frutuoso, by the end of the 16th century, to call it the ‘Western Ocean Sea Scale’. Alongside a significant role in the Atlantic History, the city also played an active part in the History of Portugal. On January 1st, 1980 it was shaken by a violent earthquake. In the process of reconstruction, the strict orthogonal layout of the streets was maintained, and the richness of its buildings was preserved. Recognizing the value of the architectural complex of this historic city center and its site as very relevant to the History of European empires, in 1984 UNESCO classified Angra do Heroísmo as a World Heritage City. Given this classification, it intended, with this work, to contribute to the knowledge of the city, not only for its historical-heritage significance, but also as a destination for Cultural Tourism, which is desirable to develop, in the Azores, as a complement of Nature Tourism.

The aim of this work is to identify the reasons behind the choice of brick-and-mortar stores to make purchases and provide new evidence of the role that such establishments play in the omnichannel environment. An empirical study carried out in the city of Logroño (Spain) shows that utilitarian and hedonic motives are intertwined and differ according to age. Young people opt for shopping centers and the range of products and services they have to offer. Adults and elderly customers associate personal attention with shops located in the city center. The fundamental conclusion of the present work is that the establishments located in shopping centers and urban centers can coexist, each developing their own strengths. Both types of establishments provide interesting benefits for consumers who, in certain situations, opt for brick-and-mortar stores and value the offline shopping experience.
