Improvisation is a hallmark of human creativity and serves a functional purpose in completing everyday tasks with novel resources. This is particularly exhibited in tool-using tasks: When the expected tool for a task is unavailable, humans often are able to replace the expected tool with an atypical one. As robots become more commonplace in human society, we will also expect them to become more skilled at using tools in order to accommodate unexpected variations of tool-using tasks. In order for robots to creatively adapt their use of tools to task variations in a manner similar to humans, they must identify tools that fulfill a set of task constraints that are essential to completing the task successfully yet are initially unknown to the robot. In this paper, we present a high-level process for tool improvisation (tool identification, evaluation, and adaptation), highlight the importance of tooltips in considering tool-task pairings, and describe a method of learning by correction in which the robot learns the constraints from feedback from a human teacher. We demonstrate the efficacy of the learning by correction method for both within-task and across-task transfer on a physical robot.

The article presents the results of the development of a new type of rabbit meat product - meatloaf. The consumption of healthy and nutritious foods rich in macro- and micronutrients, low in lipids and cholesterol, as well as various nutritional supplements, is preferable for the modern consumer. One of the promising types of meat as a dietary raw material is rabbit meat. As a result of the studies, a physicochemical analysis was carried out, the amino acid composition of rabbit meat was determined, and an organoleptic and tasting assessment of rabbit meatloaf was given. The technological scheme, the recipe is developed and the technological parameters of the meatloaf preparation are determined. It is recommended to store meatloaf no more than 10 days at a temperature of 0–2 °C with a humidity of 85-90 %. Meatloaf from rabbit meat has functional properties, contains a large number of vitamins PP – 174.3 mg, potassium minerals – 5052.8 mg, magnesium – 382.4 mg, phosphorus – 2875 mg, sodium – 8598.7 mg.The results of the nutritional and biological value of rabbit meatloaf allow us to make an informed conclusion about the high level of their nutritional value, which clearly illustrates the values of quality indicators.

There is increasing concern about implementation failures in six sigma concept in supply chain management. The reason for many Six Sigma programmes to fail is due to an implementation model. Using a successful Six Sigma concept in an industry we have to perform strategic analysis driven by the market and the customer. It is necessary to establish a high- level, cross-functional team to drive the improvement initiative and to identify overall improvement tools. We can perform high-level process mapping and prioritize improvement opportunities. We have to develop a detailed plan for low-level improvement teams, and then to implement, document, and revise as necessary. This is important for both practitioners and academicians.

Toward what kind of future is humankind now tending? Is human society engaged in a global gamble based on the assumption that technology, aided by human ingenuity and creativity, can remake the world and manage its resources for immediate material benefit to humanity without regard to natural law and the fate of other species? Infinite substitutability of species has been tested over evolutionary time, but infinite substitutability of resources is a relatively recent hypothesis based on a faith in human creativity and technological prowess. The choice made will affect both the future of human society and of many other species.

ABSTRACTThe selection of Preliminary Investigation Areas (PIAs) to be considered in the siting procedure for a Japanese High Level Radioactive Waste (HLW) repository, will require Site-specific Evaluation Factors (SSEF) to be considered. Evaluation of these factors requires a methodology for taking into account various kinds of uncertainties in varied types of literature data. The study described here evaluated the application of Evidential Support Logic (ESL) for this purpose. The approach involves constructing hierarchical process models. Uncertainties are then propagated from the lowest processes, corresponding to data or information, through intermediate processes, to some top level process of interest, such as “assessing the existence of an active fault”. To evaluate the usefulness of ESL a hypothetical site was assessed. The results demonstrate the value of the approach to support decision-making in the selection of PIAs.

Building on principles of evolutionary psychology and sociometer theory, we propose that people feel worse about the extent to which they have forgiven when their forgiveness level increases their risk of exploitation or their risk of spoiling a valuable relationship. We predicted that people would feel worse about their forgiveness level when they grant a high level of forgiveness to a perpetrator who has made weak (vs. strong) amends, thereby heightening their risk of exploitation (H1). We also predicted that people would feel worse about their forgiveness level when they grant a low (vs. high) level of forgiveness to a perpetrator who has made strong amends, thereby putting the value of their relationship with the perpetrator at risk (H2). We conducted a longitudinal study of transgressions occurring in romantic relationships and two experiments to test these ideas. H1 was supported in two of the three studies; H2 was supported in all three. A mini meta-analysis indicated that both effects were reliable across the program of research. These results suggest that feelings about one’s forgiveness level serve a functional purpose: Feeling bad about one’s forgiveness level signals that the current combination of amends and forgiveness levels may be causing an adaptation risk.
