Equine training activity detection will help to track and enhance the performance and fitness level of riders and their horses. Currently, the equestrian world is eager for a simple solution that goes beyond detecting basic gaits, yet current technologies fall short on the level of user friendliness and detection of main horse training activities. To this end, we collected leg accelerometer data of 14 well-trained horses during jumping and dressage trainings. For the first time, 6 jumping training and 25 advanced horse dressage activities are classified using specifically developed models based on a neural network. A jumping training could be classified with a high accuracy of 100 %, while a dressage training could be classified with an accuracy of 96.29%. Assigning the dressage movements to 11, 6 or 4 superclasses results in higher accuracies of 98.87%, 99.10% and 100%, respectively. Furthermore, during dressage training, the side of movement could be identified with an accuracy of 97.08%. In addition, a velocity estimation model was developed based on the measured velocities of seven horses performing the collected, working, and extended gaits during a dressage training. For the walk, trot, and canter paces, the velocities could be estimated accurately with a low root mean square error of 0.07 m/s, 0.14 m/s, and 0.42 m/s, respectively.

The analysis of the unban road traffic state based on kinds of floating car data, is based on the model and algorithm of floating car data preprocessing and map matching, etc. Firstly, according to the characteristics of the different types of urban road, the urban road section division has been carried on the elaboration and optimization. And this paper introduces the method of calculating the section average speed with single floating car data, also applies the dynamic consolidation of sections to estimate the section average velocity.Then the minimum sample size of floating car data is studied, and section average velocity estimation model based on single type of floating car data in the different case of floating car data sample sizes has been built. Finally, the section average speed of floating car in different types is fitted to the section average car speed by the least square method, using section average speed as the judgment standard, the grade division standard of urban road traffic state is established to obtain the information of road traffic state.

Background:Capturing the complex time pattern of physical activity (PA) and sedentary behavior (SB) using accelerometry remains a challenge. Research from occupational health suggests exposure variation analysis (EVA) could provide a meaningful tool. This paper (1) explains the application of EVA to accelerometer data, (2) demonstrates how EVA thresholds and derivatives could be chosen and used to examine adherence to PA and SB guidelines, and (3) explores the validity of EVA outputs.Methods:EVA outputs are compared with accelerometer data from 4 individuals (Study 1a and1b) and 3 occupational groups (Study 2): seated workstation office workers (n = 8), standing workstation office workers (n = 8), and teachers (n = 8).Results:Line graphs and related EVA graphs highlight the use of EVA derivatives for examining compliance with guidelines. EVA derivatives of occupational groups confirm no difference in bouts of activity but clear differences as expected in extended bouts of SB and brief bursts of activity, thus providing evidence of construct validity.Conclusions:EVA offers a unique and comprehensive generic method that is able, for the first time, to capture the time pattern (both frequency and intensity) of PA and SB, which can be tailored for both occupational and public health research.

With the new Hamburg astrometric measuring machine, large sets of plates can be digitized very quickly with submicrometer accuracy. In particular about 2000 plates of the AGK2-catalog, mean epoch 1930, can be remeasured now for the first time to their limiting magnitude, about B = 11. The new AGK2-data therefore will cover practically the whole AC-catalog and TYCHO-stars in the northern hemisphere. All plates will be reduced using the HIPPARCOS results as the reference frame when available in 1996. The new AGK2-data will provide a unique data base for the determination of high accuracy proper motions (about 2 mas/yr) of all TYCHO stars in the northern hemisphere. Furthermore, for the first time a dense reference frame for a final reduction of the Astrographic Catalog (AC) and the large deep sky surveys will be generated by this catalog. The inferior situation in the southern hemisphere will be addressed briefly.

Training activities are related strictly to presentations, since each time you have to train someone, you need to present a set of topics to a group of people. Of course, training is a very different type of presentation for several reasons: The people that are listening to you usually are not skilled in the argument and, therefore, are not inclined to destroy your presentation with negative comments; the number of persons that are listening to you usually are few in the worst case (apart from academic lessons that are out of the scope of this book); and the duration of the training session is at least half a day and also can be several days, so that you can have time to socialize with all the people. Social aspects are very important during training, since interaction with people is not limited to the presentation time but also extends to all the coffee breaks and, in the case of a long training, to lunch or dinner, especially when you are training a partner or a customer at his or her site. Several of the tricks reported for presentations also are valid for training, especially the suggestions related to the speech, and therefore, such suggestions will not be discussed again in this section. For presentation, the main value that must be considered and addressed is communication, but in the training activity, some other values must be taken into account, such as simplicity and feedback. During a training session, simplicity and feedback are important as the communication capability, since simplicity usually improves and meliorates communication, and feedback aids in the dynamic revision of the presentation contents, improving simplicity and then communication. In order to have a clearer view of their influence, a short overview of these values follows.

We describe a new shortcut strategy for imaging the sediments and salt edge around a salt flank through an overburden salt canopy. We tested its performance and capabilities on 2D synthetic acoustic seismic data from a Gulf of Mexico style model. We first redatumed surface shots, using seismic interferometry, from a walkaway vertical seismic profile survey as if the source and receiver pairs had been located in the borehole at the positions of the receivers. This process creates effective downhole shot gathers by completely moving surface shots through the salt canopy, without any knowledge of overburden velocity structure. After redatuming, we can apply multiple passes of prestack migration from the reference datum of the bore-hole. In our example, first-pass migration, using only a simple vertical velocity gradient model, reveals the outline of the salt edge. A second pass of reverse-time, prestack depth migration using full two-way wave equation was performed with an updated velocity model that consisted of the velocity gradient and salt dome. The second-pass migration brings out dipping sediments abutting the salt flank because these reflectors were illuminated by energy that bounced off the salt flank, forming prismatic reflections. In this target-oriented strategy, the computationally fast redatuming process eliminates the need for the traditional complex process of velocity estimation, model building, and iterative depth migration to remove effects of the salt canopy and surrounding overburden. This might allow this strategy to be used in the field in near real time.

Although the field of otolaryngology has experienced a decline in the number of applicants to our residency programs, otolaryngology remains a highly competitive field with an extremely strong applicant pool. Many highly qualified candidates cannot obtain a position in our field each year, and many of these candidates choose to reapply the next year. Data are lacking regarding reapplicants’ success rate and the best gap year employment and training options for these reapplicants. Reapplicants were studied prospectively via a two-stage survey during the 2014–2015 and 2015–2016 application cycles. Success rates for the overall group were compared to those from published data, and success rates between subgroups were also compared. First-time reapplicants in the study performed extremely well. Their match rate (19/22) was not significantly different from that of traditional otolaryngology applicants (551/619, p = 0.73) and was significantly higher than that of nontraditional applicants not in our cohort (23/62, p < 0.001). No significant difference was found between applicants by employment/training activities, with both researchers (11/12) and surgical interns (8/10, p = 0.57) performing well. Predictors of reapplicant success could not be assessed because only 3 reapplicants in the cohort were unsuccessful. First-time otolaryngology reapplicants remain a highly competitive group of applicants to our field, regardless of employment/training activities undertaken after graduating medical school.

A new approach is introduced for determining X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) spectra on absolute and relative scales using multiple solutions with different concentrations by the characterization and correction of experimental systematics. This hybrid technique is a development of standard X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) along the lines of the high-accuracy X-ray extended range technique (XERT) but with applicability to solutions, dilute systems and cold cell environments. This methodology has been applied to determining absolute XAS of bis(N-n-propyl-salicylaldiminato) nickel(II) and bis(N-i-propyl-salicylaldiminato) nickel(II) complexes with square planar and tetrahedral structures in 15 mMand 1.5 mMdilute solutions. It is demonstrated that transmission XAS from dilute systems can provide excellent X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) and XAFS spectra, and that transmission measurements can provide accurate measurement of subtle differences including coordination geometries. For the first time, (transmission) XAS of the isomers have been determined from low-concentration solutions on an absolute scale with a 1–5% accuracy, and with relative precision of 0.1% to 0.2% in the active XANES and XAFS regions after inclusion of systematic corrections.

Aims. We focus on early-B type stars with helium overabundance, for which the presence of a magnetic field has not previously been reported. Methods. The measurements were carried out using high-spectral-resolution spectropolarimetric observations obtained with the High Accuracy Radial velocity Planet Searcher (HARPS) in polarimetric mode, installed at the ESO La Silla 3.6 m telescope. Results. For five He-rich stars, the longitudinal magnetic field was detected for the first time. For one target, HD 58260, the presence of a longitudinal magnetic field of the order of 1.8 kG has already been reported in the literature, but the magnetic field has remained constant over tens of years. Our measurement carried out using the polarimetric spectra obtained in 2015 March indicates a slight decrease of the longitudinal magnetic field strength compared to measurements reported in previous works. A search for periodic modulation in available photometric data allowed us to confidently establish a period of 2.64119 ± 0.00420 d in archival ASAS3 data for CPD–27°1791. No period could be determined for the other five stars. Conclusions. The obtained results support the scenario that all He-rich stars are detectably magnetic and form an extension of the Ap star phenomenon to higher temperatures.

Purpose: The ability in planning communication, organizing messages, implementing and supervising members of the Village Community Empowerment Agency (BPD) is needed so that they are able to build synergies with the community and village heads for village development in Subang Regency. Method: To improve this ability, communication management training activities were carried out. The method was carried out through lectures and discussions. Results: The results obtained were an increase in positive understanding related to communication management carried out in community empowerment and the satisfaction with the material presented. This is indicated by 92.3%, that the material presented provides benefits and new understanding in community empowerment. Conclusions: Through this training activity, members of the Village Community Empowerment Agency (BPD) are able to improve their abilities in planning communication and organizing messages in carrying out their duties as BPD members in the implementation and supervision of village development.
